FB RECRUITING: An overview of Louisville football recruiting

I wanted to go ahead and do a quick summary of where things stand as far as football recruiting is concerned now that we are in the Scott Satterfield era. There is still some evaluation going on of the current commits so it is possible we see a little more attrition to get guys that fit the new system better. Regardless, this is where things stand currently listed by what I think the priorities are. It looks like the total number of commitments the Cardinals can take in the class of 2019 is right around 16 but if players decide to leave the program for whatever reason, that number may grow slightly. If you have any questions feel free to send them on over and I'd be happy to answer them as best I can given the somewhat limited info we have right now.

1. Tight End
The situation for 2019 at tight end is officially in crisis mode with only 1 scholarship player between those returning and class of 2019 commitments and that is senior Jordan Davis. Having lost Sam Snyder, Jeremiah Pruitte, and Austin Griffin, Satterfield's first job is to find a couple tight ends. At this point, while quality would be nice, quantity is priority #1. I'd expect Louisville to look around for a grad transfer/JUCO tight end to go along with 1 or 2 high school prospects in an ideal scenario.

2. Quarterback
As of right now Louisville will only have 2 scholarship QB's for 2019 and neither stepped up and commanded the position this past year. Similar to tight end, look for Louisville to explore the grad transfer and JUCO ranks looking for a guy to come in and impact immediately. It also wouldn't shock me if they had their eyes out for a high school prospect as well.

3. Offensive Line
Louisville loses 3 starters from their offensive line in 2018 and while there is some returning talent, Louisville desperately needs depth at the position. As things sit right now there are 3 commits in the class of 2019, Zach Williamson, Ty Murray, and Jack Randolph, but given numbers, Satterfield will NEED a couple of them to compete immediately. For this reason I think continuing to scour all options for 1, maybe 2 more prospects will happen to ensure there is depth and competition on the offensive line this spring and fall.

4. Linebacker
There is definitely experienced talent at the linebacker position with guys like CJ Avery and Dorian Etheridge along with young talent like Yasir Abdullah and Robert Hicks. Still, I think Louisville wants to add at least one guy at the position to possibly make an early impact. While other positions are still in the evaluation phase, the name to know at linebacker is Jamie Pettway.

5. Defensive Back
Louisville has numbers at the defensive back position, especially now with the return of Russ Yeast to the team as well as Jairus Brents being eligible in 2019. Still, Louisville could use a guy in the defensive backfield to add some speed and playmaking ability to the position.

6. Defensive Line
With most of the unit returning in 2019 and with high 3-star DT Denzel Daxon already committed and expected to sign early, this unit is, for the most part, complete. The only exception I can see here is if someone like JJ Weaver becomes an option. If that happens you find a way to take him regardless.

7. Running Back/Wide Receiver
Both positions have 1 committed prospect in the class of 2019, Aidan Robbins at running back and Stanley King at wide receiver. Both positions have a significant amount of talent returning as well. I think Louisville may end up taking 1 or 2 more in the end, especially if someone like RB DJ Williams (an App. St. commit) decides to hop on over, but whether they have room for those extra spots or not is something I don't think any of the coaches are going to lose sleep over.

FB RECRUITING: Keep an eye out on this 3-star OL prospect...

Louisville assistant coach Lonnie Galloway was at the high school of Jimmy Fritzsche today and offered him a Louisville scholarship. It is interesting to note that Fritzsche also had a scholarship offer from Appalachian State and had been recruited by Satterfield.

Fritzsche said Satterfield at Louisville is "very interesting". He had also told me that "If Satterfield goes [to Louisville], he’d definitely help change it around in a positive way. He recruits me hard and is a great guy and great coach."

More on Satterfield "He is very smart and teaches his team very well for things in not only football, but life."

He is one we will definitely be watching to see if anything materializes.

FB RECRUITING: 2019 RB commit Aidan Robbins is in Utah

Robbins is in Provost, Utah visiting BYU right now. I don’t know if it’s an official visit but let’s just assume it is. Also, is BYU in Provost? I think it is based on my EA Sports NCAAF gamer days but I’m too lazy to google it right now. No matter, the dude is taking his second visit in two weeks to another school.

His commitment is shaky at this point, to say the least.

I don’t know how high the new staff is on him but the RB room is quite crowded at the moment. Should Louisville lose his commitment I would put the sting factor at about a 3 out of 10.

Ciao.

Meaningless phrase: "Not about the money..."

When "Vince" eventually lands his new coach and triples--or more--his salary, listen intently to see if the new guy mentions how much more money he's gonna be making. Won't happen unless he cracks a joke about "eating steak tonite" or "buying a boat".

The reason is that coaches don't use money as the reason they publicly claim they take a new job. Nor really does anyone in the public eye, a new CEO, whoever. It's poor taste you could say, and it distracts from their mission to lead their new organization to greater heights. U of L's new football coach won't make that connection even if he's directly asked the question.

Similarly, Jeff Brohm denied a financial connection between himself to either the Purdue or U of L jobs. He simply was not going to say "U of L didn't offer enough money" or "Purdue did". That's not the image he wants(-ed) to convey about himself. And Tyra had plenty of CYA reasons to avoid saying he came up short in the bidding derby for Brohm. No one was going to say it was about the money because of how it reflects on them individually.

So, you're naive quoting these guys on their comments about money. If you wanna believe none of them care about money to square up your view of things, that's fine. But it's not reality...

Mark Stoops Michigan

Hahahahahahahahahahaha that is a serious post over on Cats piss..one guy said...Haurbaugh is rumored to be going back to the NFL and they might come after Poops. Women's Basketball Attendance on Uptick...

As many know, I've been tracking attendance in other U of L sports besides the revenue sports. Women's basketball is one of those, and attendance last year was down about 8% over the prior year. Last year can only be described in hindsight as perhaps the best regular season in U of L women's basketball history.

It's early, but attendance thru four games in 2018-19 is up 28% over those same games last year. It's about 5% lower compared to the overall average, but you have to allow for the quality of games that came later in last year's schedule and that remain on the current schedule. One of those games is Sunday against LPT.

We're still down about 7% compared to the earliest games TWO years ago, but at this point last year we were down 27%. That's making up a lotta ground in a short time.

Great for the women's program which has no reason to experience any fan attrition and never did. And for the record, I report positive statistics as well as negative...
