I’m not convinced he ever really “had them”, but after last night, he’s definitely lost the team at this point.
Knowing BP, he’s probably going to trot Travis out there more now, which is not the answer. Don’t get wrapped up in if he can move the offense or not. There are so many fundamental problems with our program right now, that it doesn’t matter who our QB is. You’re simply throwing kids out there that aren’t prepared and ready to play, and providing inadequate gameplans to try and execute.
I know there’s been a plan all along to address the coaching staff at EOS w/ VT. I think the conversation will go in the direction of “make changes or move on”. With the new nepotism policy in place, changes will be addressed. I think had we performed well on the field, I fully expected BP to dig his heals in and fight it.
Considering where we are, and headed (1-2 possible more wins max), he might actually go along with it, and be given another year with an upgraded staff. Problem there is few quality coaches want to work for the guy.
Just my speculation on this part, but I’m guessing his agent is putting feelers out already about landing spots. Which is going to be slim at this stage. If he can walk away to a new place, for decent pay, he will.
Regardless, the ridiculous buyout can be overcome. If he refuses to make staffing changes, insubordination can be leveraged, along with the policy changes, to reduce the numbers. If he finds someone willing to hire him, it will be negotiated out anyway.
Today, I’d put it at 65/35 he’s not here next year. If he was more marketable, and there was a legitimate decent opening somewhere for him to take, I’d say 95/5 he gone. And he’d simply spin it that he didn’t want to work for VT, and once again find a roster with decent players and begin the process again of running a program in the ground.
