Brohm - In the end this will determine the decision...

In my opinion, what will determine if he takes the UL Job will be if JB sees UL as his final Coaching Job. If he does not, then there is no reason for him to leave Purdue. I have seen posts that seem to indicate he covets the Notre Dame Job. And since he spent time in the NFL he may have aspirations to move up to a NFL Job. At Purdue he has the momentum rolling. He can see what is in front of him. He has no idea how big a mess the UL situation might be. Taking the UL job would be a substantial risk if he has aspirations like those I listed above.

Dakich...

I have to admit Dakich showed us constant love and it didn't seem contrived. He even said we were robbed by the refs against Marquette.

He was right almost every time he praised or criticized the Cards players in this game against Michigan state. I know many will think he was trying to amend some feelings with Cards fans but it didn't appear that way to me.

Anyway, I'm sure he will say something off the wall again and fans will react but I was surprised how well he called the game.

Put Yourself In Brohm’s Shoes

The nature of coaching churn in college football forces head coaches to flat out lie. There is a 3 week window where the bodies start piling up (terminations) and the replacement names start being floated. You have no choice but to be somewhere between dodgy and dishonest with those who have invested in you and bought into your successful leadership at your current team. I would be surprised if he has not had to directly state he is committed to Purdue several times in the last few weeks to players, fans and boosters. Count me as one person that is glad our number one candidate is struggling with that. The guy we just cut loose never had such qualms. I would argue that is a big reason why we find ourselves in the spot we are now in.

FB RECRUITING: Tidbit from a Purdue recruit

I spoke to a Purdue recruit who was actually visited by Jeff Brohm Monday. The recruit stated that he did mention the offer for the Louisville head coaching job but told him that he "liked where he was now". I asked the recruit if he ever mentioned anything about Brohm stating he was not taking the Louisville job or that he will definitely be at Purdue next year and they said that neither was stated.

Nothing groundbreaking but just a little insight on what Brohm has said to recruits on the recruiting trail.

11 pm Update - Coaching Update

- Louisville Basketball just got the biggest win of the Mack Era so far... and certainly everyone is celebrating. I don't want to bring the mood down, but...

- Well.

- I don't feel as confident right now in the Brohm deal as I did about three hours ago. Several sources seem to indicate he is genuinely struggling with leaving Purdue.

- We won't know an answer tonight. I don't think Vince has been informed either way yet.

- I would guess we hear about it tomorrow morning.

- I don't think the contract terms are an issue at this point.

- I'll be live on the air at 7 am tomorrow on 790 KRD and if anything happens I'll carry it live.

WBB 95 - Miami (OH) 73

Great to have the WBB squad back in the YUM! Center and a appreciative 7500 rolled out last night to see the 22- point win over the Red Hawks. A nice night of basketball, Louisville was aggressive early and held a 23-5 lead before the first quarter had ended.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME

1) Go Big or Go Home. All three of the WBB post-players (Sam, Bionca and Kylee) ended up with double-digit scoring numbers and shot a combined 16-25 for the night (64%) Really impressed with the paint prowess and Sam didn't even grab a single rebound.

2) Dana Does It. I continue to be impressed with her, she led in assists last with six and had 14 points plus two steals. Yes, she's fast. She just sprinted down court and back in the time it took me to write this sentence. Her game continues to improve. She even tried to pick up an assist in the third quarter with a "no look" pass to a wide open Jeff Walz, who didn't take the three-pointer.

3) Thinking highly of Kylee! She led Louisville scorers with 17 points with an efficient 6-9 shooting. Also, she tied for most grabs with six. It's a more aggressive and consistent Kylee in the paint this year and a nice effort on three rebounds and put-backs where she battled for and won the possession battle.

4) Someone call a policeman! Louisville had 16 steals and forced 21 turnovers. Everyone on the roster except Sam and Jess had a steal, which means they're buying into the Walz theorem that "we're a better offensive team when we can get the ball." (Hey! Where'd my coffee mug go?) Daggone, Asia.

5) A quiet 16? Yes, it's possible. "Nite-nite" was the second-leading scorer with 16 and I thought at the end of the game she might have been under double figures until I saw the stat sheet. She matched Lindsey Duvall's two-three pointers and grabbed seven rebounds. Not worried at all about the 7-13 shooting. Great players find multiple ways to get their teammates engaged in the action and Asia does that oh, so, well.

I liked that Walz got the freshmen plenty of court time (at least 12 minutes each) and that they held their own in the fourth against the Miami (OH) starters.

Nebraska next Thursday night. Cards hoping to reveal the Final Four banner then and move the banners to a place they can be seen when the game lights are on.

Event of the night: Paulie likes official Bryan Enterline and teased him at halftime by putting a cookie up on the media row table where he can see it. He told Bryan that if he was a good boy and called a good game he could have the cookie after the contest. And, sure enough, it was there at the final buzzer and Bryan scooped it up. (Despite "mayor for life" Jerry Abramson's best attempts to lay claim to it).

Cookie rewards. Surely the NCAA wouldn't investigate that, would they? Paulie said he'd do the same for Jeff Brohm if he decides to head south.
