Cards WBB dispatches the Mocs 75-49

Five things to ponder in Louisville WBB win at McKenzie Arena over the Chattanooga Choo-Choo's:

1) Asia Durr. (Fill in your own comments). "Incre-Durr-able"

2) Louisville absolutely, positively needs to be more aggressive and produce better on the boards. When Jaz Jones is your leading rebounder with seven...it's time to light a fire under the gals (Sam, Bionca and Kylee) that are the "tall ones".

3) Three "second chance" points is distressing. The transition scoring finally kicked in during the second half. 10 days to work on it before Boise.

4) Applaud Walz's continuance of "playing them all" a bunch during the early part of the schedule. Yes, this could have probably been a 40+ point blowout, but, he's getting the young players valuable on-court, against opponents experience.

5) I hate MOCS-Vision. They insisted on showing Mocs highlights while live action was going on (namely Louisville possessions and scores). No dilly-dilly for that stuff.

Was anything ever said about Malik Cunningham's injury?

I feel like Malik gives us the best shot at upsetting U-ah-K. Was his injury status ever made public? I would hope he could get the vast majority of snaps against NC State. Of course, if he's hurt, well ... obviously that won't happen.

I feel badly for Pass, but the kid just dropped the ball TWICE in the last game, turning it over. We turn it over enough the regular way (when the defense actually makes a play), we don't need to add to things by just dropping the ball on the ground right in front of a defender. It was almost like he was shaving points. But then you realize there's no way he's shaving points, because guys who shave points would never do what Pass did. They'd try to make it look more real ... ya know, like waiting to drop the ball until they are actually HIT by a defender.

So ... I'm hoping and praying Malik can finish out the season for us. And am wondering if we know how badly he was hurt.

BP fired per Pat Forde

https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-louisville-fires-football-coach-bobby-petrino-161643932.html

Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino has been fired effective immediately, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Petrino was terminated Sunday morning and will not coach the rest of the season. The Cardinals are 2-8, have lost seven in a row and are winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Petrino has a large buyout, estimated in the $14 million range. But the fan base has bailed on Petrino and set its sights on hometown hero Jeff Brohm, currently the coach at Purdue.

Petrino, once considered one of the offensive innovators in the sport, has struggled badly since 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson left after last season. The Cardinals’ offensive struggles have been compounded by a defensive collapse late inthe season. Louisville has surrendered more than 50 points five times, including three games in a row.

Reality Check

College football is set up to reward the best brands in the game. Everything from exposure, dollars, coaching, playoffs and recruiting is built to ensure those brands are playing in the playoffs. The system doesn't want Cinderella it wants brands. As long as the TV money comes in the sport will be fine.

Louisville, Kentucky, or Purdue aren't college football brands, The reality is Louisville will never be on a college football powerhouse. They should be a good program with years on pushing the envelope. That has pretty much been been the history. Even with this version of Petrino that is who Lousiville has been. This year has been a epic fail and now a change is going to happen. By the way this would be a great behavioral study on what really happened.

The $14 million dollar question is who do you replace him with knowing the above. Brohm is the obvious choice because he is the one guy the will energize the fanbase and have the immediate trust of the base. I think he would improve recruiting instantly. What you are agreeing too is 5M, more than we are paying now, to win on a consistent basis 8 games a year with an occasional magical season. Which is no different than what has happened the last 5 years. That is what the history of Louisville football tells you. What history also tells is this fanbase doesn't fanatically support 7 or 8 win teams even with a Heisman candidate.

Don't be surprised if Brohm doesn't come and the new coach is on the cheap. You can find a bunch of coaches that can achieve that kind of success. The challenge is you have to find the right guy that is the right fit. That may be Brohm, but that is a steep price based on the history of the program.

Honest question about board traffic

Why would anyone go to another team’s board? I know some on here go to read the lair or whatever it’s called. Why? Same thing with the Purdue crew on here? What’s with the unhealthy obsession to come on here and rip U of L. To make you all feel secure that you are going to keep your coach? Why doesn’t everyone stay in their lane? Purdue fans on Purdue boards, UK fans on UK, U of L on U of L?

The cross traffic is getting tiresome IMO.
