Watched Purdue Saturday

The passing game looked very similar to what we are used to seeing. But they are a lot more creative in the run game. Utilize the Jet sweep and also a lot of misdirection. I can tell you right now there is no way Pass could run the Purdue Offense I saw Saturday. The QB has to be extremely good at handling the ball, and that is not Jawon Pass.

Tutu Atwell should be praying JB is hired. He will be a star in that offense. JB will get him the ball a bunch of different ways.

Word of caution to my fellow Card fans

Whomever the new coach is we all need to unite to support this guy. The last thing we need is to be discombulated as a fanbase. Give the new coach a fighting chance and the opportunity to win over our players. Hopefully the kids that wanted to leave while CBP was here will change their minds and hopefully so will the recruits. There are people that I’ve mentioned that I’d like to have and those that I don’t want but I’m ready to get on board with whomever the new coach might be. It just might be a coincidence but Charlie Strong coached a game last night in Cincy. Something to think about?

More on Louisville and Brohm - keep premium

While there may be other candidates in Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra's rolodex, Brohm is the clear cut No. 1 choice according to sources close to the situation.

Tyra and the Brohm family have known each other for years, and both have strong ties to Louisville private school, Trinity High.

And given the clear focus being on Brohm, I'm told Tyra would not have made a move to fire Petrino without knowing there was a deal within grasp with him.

The issue could be complicated if another suitor makes a serious run at Brohm, but I don't foresee that being an issue.

Not a Done Deal

While I think Brohm ultimately comes to Louisville, I’ve been told today that it’s closer to 50/50 at this point that he would leave Purdue. Specifically I was told that they are very happy with what Purdue has offered and all the turmoil and uncertainty Louisville has been through gives pause.

Someone else posted that “a deal in principle is done”. I don’t believe that at all. He is the #1 candidate for sure though.

Take it fwiw.

Word from inside the players meeting

Vince Tyra met with the players today after firing Bobby Petrino and four staffers: Nick Petrino, Andy Wagner, Ryan Beard and LD Scott.

Word that I get is that the tone of the meeting was very positive.

I was not in the room, but I have now talked to several people who were there.

There seemed to be a weight lifted off the team - who knows whether that translates to better performance - but the mood was almost relieved.

Vince was very frank about the lack of effort and execution he saw on film. VERY FRANK.

He told them the film doesn't lie and things were dysfunctional.

The players know he was right. They also could feel a change coming for weeks (and that was part of the issue).

The players seem to really love Lorenzo Ward. Hopefully they will play well for him.

What I'm hearing on QB Jordan Travis

Just wanted to drop by a quick update on Travis who, like Russ Yeast, also had requested his transfer from Louisville before Bobby Petrino was let go.

I was told from the source that "He’s good but will likely wait to see who the next coach is first and focus on school for now."

While that isn't quite the news that Russ Yeast is, it is still a positive sign going forward that the next coach, presumably Jeff Brohm, could manage to keep Travis on the roster.

Does Petrino make it past Saturday?

My sense is that Petrino will be fired this weekend. Cards have an extra day to prepare for NC State and it’s a home game. I think there is a reason you are hearing all the rumors of players filing transfer paperwork. Seems to be strategically disseminated to Ennis and others. I think most foresee a 40+ loss to Cuse tomorrow night on national TV.

We shall see.

Whoever gets the nod has one immediate need

I don't think you can work around the fact that we have DEEP needs defensively in the front seven; you'd have to be blind to see that we had those needs in consecutive classes and largely struck out on Bonnito, a linebacker loss to Ole Miss whose name escapes me, the late loss at DE to MS State when Grantham headed to Starkville among the most obvious and public. Outside of Dorsey have we landed a prep DT in the last two classes? We have immediate playing time availability and it has to be obvious to anybody we are thin. Kentucky used that template to sell some kids in Ohio that opportunity awaited.

...and yet Herron, Jared Casey, Jacob Lacey, perhaps JJ Weaver saw it in technicolor and said no thanks. We HAVE to turn somebody locally in the next month.

I had thought preseason we had some talent on our roster at wide receiver, in a group of running backs that is still young, Becton and Bentley minimally on the offensive line and perhaps Chandler. I thought the same in the secondary. But we aren't even remotely BCS caliber in our front seven. I think what has been demonstrated thus far is for what I think we'd field offensively we're deficient at quarterback and that's a tough thing to just get onboard late.

...and thanks Coach Lolla for giving us a glimmer of hope in the Athletic Department. Maybe you have turned the worm.
