Earlier in the day Louisville TE commit Sam Snyder received an in-home visit from Missouri's tight end coach.

Tonight, the Snyder's hosted Louisville RB coach Kolby Smith.

I'm hearing that the conversation with Kolby Smith went extremely well and the family talked to him at length on a variety of topics. From speaking with a source close to the situation it seems that the visit did help ease some uncertainties but some still exist due to the head coach uncertainty. The source did go on to say that they felt that Sam's commitment rests more so in the relationship of Snyder with Kolby Smith and Richard Owens than with the school itself and they are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the new head coach and what that may mean for Smith and Owens.

QB Coach Question

This may be a silly question, but with all the recent discussion about the effectiveness of Nick Petrino (played QB through HS, right?) as QB coach, and the possibility that Brian Brohm )played QB in HS, college, and NFL) will be our next QB coach, I wonder if a former QB who becomes a QB coach can effectively coach a QB that has a completely different style of play.

Ugh, that's an ugly-worded question....let's try it like this...how effective do you think a QB coach who was a drop-back pocket passer can be in coaching a dual-threat QB like Lamar Jackson or Malik Cunningham? It seems to me that such a QB coach might have a hard time relating to, and therefore effectively coaching to, the strengths of his protege.

2:45 Update

Things are still moving. Louisville fans needs to be patient...

I will try to provide updates as soon as I can throughout the next 24 hours.

Update on the meeting...

The meeting is done and Jeff is back in West Lafayette Indiana. He did not go to recruiting in Ohio.

Demling just called into 790. Said Jeff and Vince met and that we should have an answer by tomorrow

The Collapse of Louisville Football

Now that the 13-week nightmare is over Card fans can look forward to the future and the positive feelings that accompany winning. It's been too good the past few years for Louisville fans to have to endure the depressing feelings that have been part of this football season. So what happened?
Since I left UPS 15 years ago I have spent much of my time consulting with organizations in the area of management and operations. With help from some inside information and my own experience observing failed businesses I can point our several shortcomings that caused the demise of Cardinal football:
1) Lack of clear and cohesive details on the organizational objectives of the operation from the top.
The head coach didn't communicate truthfully with the other coaches and players and define clearly stated rules on dealing with each other.
2) Treating all employees the same. That is the reason nepotism can disrupt an organization as it did with this football team. The relatives of the head man become more 'equal' than their peers. That problem infected this team.
3) Lack of equal discipline for all. That problem was highlighted in the Kentucky game when the coach told a player to go to the locker room and two plays later he was in the game. Players were suspended for the game for much lesser infractions.
4) No person in management to be a sounding board for problems. The players had no one to go to for counseling or intimate conversation about personal issues.
5) Fully engaged leadership at the top. Coach Petrino had an 'ivory tower' mindset and wasn't cognizant of problems within the organization or tended to ignore them.
I am sure there were many more problems but this is a start.

Vince Tyra: AD to football recruiter

Just wanted to drop by a quick update. Was told by a source that AD Vince Tyra just completed the off campus recruiting compliance exam that enables him to, as it indicates, visit recruits off campus. I'll keep you all updated if I hear where he is planning to go but this is just another example of how Vince is taking things into his own hands as far as taking care of the football program.

BREAKING: Tuesday Lunch Update: Getting very close

Mike Rutherford reported this morning the conversations are happening right now.

I believe this to be the case. I think it is happening right now in Indianapolis - away from the Purdue campus and a neutral site.

I believe the majority of the work is already done. Once the two parties meet, my understand is that the rest of the basics have moved along to the point where a face to face meeting is necessary.

As I said on radio this morning, I am not overly concerned about the reports of numbers being off or other issues.

The bottom line is that Jeff wants to come here and Vince wants him to be here. The numbers, the details, that'll all get sorted out, in my opinion .

Brohm details of negotiations

Sources tell FootballScoop that Brohm, through his agent, put that chip on the table in discussions with Louisville about their opening. Brohm wants years and dollars commensurate with what they see as a process that will take time to rebuild. The ask, we’re told, is meaningful but not what anyone in major college football these days would consider over the top. Thus far, Louisville’s side has maintained that there are other viable options who would accept less and that Brohm should be “more reasonable.”

The song and dance continue, but we have been told that Louisville has put a mid-week “deadline” for a decision from Brohm. Deadlines spur action. If he isn’t willing to commit, Louisville has told Brohm they will move on to further discussions with other candidates. It is worth mentioning however that Brohm’s buyout reduces by $1.1 million either on or after Dec. 5, which is next Wednesday.

Should Brohm not accept the job, the two names sources continue to tell FootballScoop are at the ready are App State head coach Scott Satterfield and Troy head coach Neal Brown. Both are proven head coaches who have won with far less resources than Louisville has to offer.

3:45 Update

....

Jeff Brohm’s car is back in his parking space at the Purdue offices after being away for most of the day.

And here are some more updates from what I hear...

I would think he speaks with Bobinski tonight and then informs Louisville of his decision tomorrow.

Him meeting face to face with Vince today makes me more confident in this deal getting done.

It’s all about details now- length of contract, leash to deal with issues, remember Jeff was here in the first couple years of Kragthorpe after Bobby the first time.

The potential problem for Brohm if he stays at Purdue

if he fails at Purdue, he no longer can expect any sympathy from his alma mater.

Now, he can win at Purdue and get a second chance, say, if the next Louisville coach fails.

My advice to him would be to talk to a non-football coach specifically about being wooed by his alma mater: Roy Williams.

Roy probably would have won a National Championship or 2 at KU. But there is no way they could have meant what his titles at UNC mean.

Looks Like Jeff is Coming to UL

This looks exactly like what Charlie Strong did when he left UL for Texas. Would not confirm he had taken the job until he told Jurich first. Jurich of course asked him to reconsider , but we all know the decision had been made. Strong just wanted TJ to hear it from him, and not on the news. Jeff is a class act, and would not expect him to do it any other way. This is just showing respect to Ad Bobinski, and Purdue for what gthey have done for him.

The thing about Neal Brown ...

The one thing that has people here twisted in knots, he can undo in his opening presser.

He can throw a bunch of comments out there that slam UK. And ... given how he was the guy thrown under the bus when he left there in 2014, he could have some honest reasons to want to do so. (As an aside, kinda interesting that this also parallels Brohm's experience at U of L).

His record is very good at Troy, and he has won some pretty big ball games -- at LSU specifically.

I don't know if he'll really be our next coach. But frankly, his ability to "win the presser" is the easiest of any potential new hire, because the bar is pretty low .... Slam your new in-state rival several times, and throw a bunch of red meat to the die hard Card fans.

I like several other guys before I would personally go this route. But we could do worse than Brown. He's won big for 3 straight years. That shows he can recruit to his system, and teach it too. Something that's been missing here lately.
