Federal Basketball Corruption Investigation Could Be Over Soon

If the defense in the current NY federal trial succeeds in convincing the jury that the schools were willing participants in the pay-for-play scandal the feds may be forced to end their investigation with no further prosecutions. The whole federal theory that the schools were victims of a "fraud" seems weak when you have assistant coaches, who represent the schools, coordinating and facilitating the payments to recruits and their families. The government seems to be arguing that the assistant coaches weren't representing the schools best interests. That may be true but only because they got caught.

An early end to the federal investigation will put the ball in the NCAA's court. They have a lot of schools to investigate based just on the original complaint, court pleadings and testimony. I wonder which one they'll start with.

The 2019 NFL Draft

NFL Draft Analysis has begun - Mel Kiper has 0 information that is credible.

Justin Herbert 6'6,233LBs - Oregon
Strengths: Reminds me a lot of Carson Wentz in his overall athleticism and is a major reason he is being highly regarded as the best QB in the 2019 NFL Draft. He comes from a outstanding offensive scheme that is proven to build Quarterbacks to the likes of a Marcus Mariotta and at 1:04 into the Cal highlights, you will see how well he is able to push the ball downfield. He is very well coached in "looking off" the defensive backs and has highly active feet in the pocket, while using great body weight transition upon release of the football.
Weaknesses: While Herbert has been very efficient, he lacks the big numbers you will see out of many QB's in this years NFL Draft. His mobility in the pocket will benefit him heavily at the next level, but Oregon's spread attack is always prolific in the run game nationally, which does create many wide open opportunities for the Quarterback when executing play action plays.

way to stop Snell & UK offense

Granted, no one will ever confuse our defense (or talent level) with that of Tx A&M’s defense (particularly their DTs & DEs), but 5 and 6 on the LOS was most effective at stopping UK’s running game and there is little evidence to suggest that Wilson can be effective when pressured. Watching A&M LBs reading Wilson was equally effective; as their discipline in staying within their containment eliminated Wilson from getting away from the pocket pressure. Even when Wilson had adequate time for his receivers to run their routes, you could see the communication between the A&M corners and safeties on their coverage was truly amazing. In hindsight, I can now appreciate how A&M limited Clemson so effectively.

So disappointed to have witnessed VG sticking with his 4-3 for most of the night, despite being thrashed by GT option. Personnel is clearly a significant part of our problem, but refusing to change the defensive scheme after it became evident that neither a 4-3, or 3-4 was remotely close to stopping their running attack.

I do not blame VG for the personnel that he has inherited, but someone needs to question him as to why he refused to modify his defensive packages in light of their performance in the first quarter (21-0).

First Drive

You have third down and approximately six inches. You have a 6'4" 230lb QB. You can't sneak the ball for a 1st down? No you hand the ball to the RB. The defense almost gets there before the handoff. And then you throw the ball on 4th down and a yard? BP frustrates the hell out of me with these short yardage play calls. He said in his PC he watched the receiver and he was thinking this was going to be a touchdown. That's the problem with BP and the offense this season right there. If you still have Brian Brohm at QB that's probably a great call. But you don't. Every throw with this team is a crap shoot. Sometimes(a lot of time) Pass makes an errant throw. Or Pass makes a good throw and the receiver drops it. Or a OLineman whiffs a block and the QB gets hit while he's throwing. BP needs to understand what he is working with. For the record I was for him going for it on 4th down. But we needed to run a lot higher percentage play than that. It set the tone for the whole game.

Research on Fan Identification and University Legal Scandals

Hi everyone,

I am conducting research on if fan identification of athletic teams is affected by university legal scandals. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would appreciate responses to my survey. I am looking to generate as many responses as possible, as this would create a more robust understanding of fan bases.

The Fighting Irish Break Into Top Four In Top 25 Poll & More Comparisons Below

Brian Kelly has brought new and innovative training methods to the Fighting Irish and they have worked magically at winning crucial games that have shot them up all three polls. The first three games of the season were not impressive and Notre Dame looked like a decent team, as they were able to defeat the Michigan Wolverines at home. What was concerning was after the big win in South Bend, they nearly lost to (2-4) Ball State by a score of 24-16. Given both teams are in Indiana, you could consider this an in-state rivalry, so they remain a Top 25 team. At home, against Vanderbilt, The Fighting Irish were able to defeat their SEC opponent by a score of 22-17.Vanderbilt is a good team this season, but a below average to average SEC team, as they were pummeled by South Carolina by a score of 37-14 in Nashville,TN. Consensus Top 3 team the Georgia Bulldogs, were able to defeat Vanderbilt 41-13 as the Bulldogs offense begins to assert their dominance in SEC play. They were able to defeat (3-3) Wake Forest handily in Winston Salem, NC by a score of 56-27 and you started to see the framework for the 2018-2019 Fighting Irish start to form. It was then, the Irish came up against the mighty Stanford Cardinals, who are year in and year out one of the toughest opponents the Irish face. They were able to defeat genius David Shaw and shatter Bryce Love's hopes for earlyHeisman contention. Normally, I am not into over analyzing things, as second guessing is for people who are unsure of the situation, but I looked at the remaining games for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the odds are in their favor of winning throughout the rest of the season. I had them picked to win over Virginia Tech and knowing how the system is set up, I presented my case to several older football minds and they said I was right. Let's look at the remaining schedule for Notre Dame and why they should ultimately be in the BCS playoffs at the conclusion of the college football rankings.

Georgia and Clemson over Ohio State?

This came down to the eye test when examining overall play on the football field. Ohio State's players have handled the off-season drama with their coaching staff considerably well, but they simply do not show up in the first half. Most of their glamorous stats accumulated this season were done against the likes of Tulane, who if you know FBS football, spend too many nights on Bourbon Street to compete with the Best FCS teams. As you will see in the charts fromHerosports.com, while the offenses are merely 40-50 yards behind in production per game, Georgia and Clemson are crushing the Buckeyes in total defense by nearly 100 yards in total. Where I come from, Offense wins games, but Defense wins championships.
