So who will be the Interim Head Coach?

How ironic if Brian VanGorder takes over the HC duties for the rest of the season when the lack of a defense was the main cause for Bobby to get the hook mid-season. It would be like firing the President of the company for a lack of sales, and the Board promoting the Director of Sales to President.

I presume it will be Galloway, which ironically may be named the new interim head coach one year to the day from the "Wakeyleaks" debacle. Maybe Kelakis.....Wait....Maybe this question sheds a bit of light on why Pertino is now unemployed.

Veterans Day

amid all the chatter and noise, let’s not forget to send out a big thank you to our veterans, both living and dead, whose sacrifice helped make this a country where I didn’t have to shoulder a rifle and take the same risks. Those of us who have been insulated from the horrors that have become so very common around the world owe a great debt of thanks to your bravery, commitment, and patriotism. I thank you, my family thanks you, and all Americans thank you.

Louisville coaching candidates: Jeff Brohm, Charlie Strong lead list of Bobby Petrino replacements
  • By Dennis Dodd

We told you it was almost inevitable that Bobby Petrino would get fired. Now that it's happened, the next question: How good a job is Louisville? The program has cratered so quickly from Lamar Jackson that it's hard to tell. The saving grace may be that aside from Clemson this season, there isn't much depth in the ACC.

If, as is already being discussed, Jeff Brohm slides over from Purdue, that question may not matter. Louisville is his school.

We'll miss ya, Bobby. Or at least someone will. One of the best offensive minds in college football has now been fired by two Power Five programs 6 ½ years apart. Will he get another shot?

Now to the candidates. This comes with the disclaimer that if Louisville doesn't get its first choice, it may be a long way down to second place.

1. Jeff Brohm, Purdue coach: There is not much more of a perfect fit. Former Cardinals quarterback, former offensive assistant under Petrino and Steve Kragthorpe. A chance to go home to his alma mater at age 47. All of this cannot be ignored. Besides, it should be obvious it's time to get out of Purdue. Excellence is hard to sustain. After beating Ohio State, the Boilermakers have gone 1-2 including Saturday's blowout loss to Minnesota. In one sense, that's a reflection on Brohm. Purdue is 5-5 with Wisconsin and Indiana to go. Bowl eligibility isn't a certainty. In another sense, how long does it take him to say "yes" when his schools calls?

2. Luke Fickell, Cincinnati coach: If Ohio State doesn't get him, Louisville might be a good fallback. Fickell has done wonders for his career leading the Bearcats to the top 25 and a 9-1 record in the AAC. Check out the background and bios of Cincinnati's offensive line. Only two seniors returned. One guy got a sixth year from the NCAA.

3. Charlie Strong, South Florida coach: Louisville has shown it is in the business of recycling former coaches. Strong had a, well, strong run coaching the Cardinals for four years this decade, leading Louisville to the 2013 Sugar Bowl. Strong has kept the momentum going at USF. There is no doubt he's ready for a jump back to Power Five, but it would only happen at Louisville if for some reason Brohm says no.

4. Chip Long, Notre Dame offensive coordinator: A fresh new face (35 years old) with ties to the program. Long was a Louisville offensive graduate assistant working with Brohm in 2006-07. After what he's done this season, Long's future looks much brighter than perhaps taking over a nose-diving Louisville. He has massaged the quarterback situation, developed a pounding running game and reassembled an offensive line that lost two All-Americans. Would Louisville allow him to coach through the playoff?

5. Ryan Day, Ohio State offensive coordinator: If Day doesn't take over for Urban Meyer or the NFL doesn't come calling, he could do a lot worse. His steady guidance during Meyer's three-game suspension was noticed by a lot of people in the profession.

6. Butch Jones, Alabama analyst: He's tanned, rested, ready and interested. Jones has begun his professional rehab attached to Alabama's most productive offense maybe ever. In case you need to be reminded, in 11 years as a coach, Jones has won four conference titles, gone to eight bowls and produced six All-Americans.

7. Bill Clark, UAB coach: Clark is going to get a big promotion soon but probably not to Louisville. He is being mentioned as a national coach of the year candidate after winning the Conference USA West four years after the school dropped the program.

Front 7

Love Brohm as the new coach. Louisville will never recruit the best defensive players but can get enough talented offensive players to have a great offense.

But, we could get Belichick and it won’t matter until we recruit enough talented front seven players. Looking back at the last 3 recruiting class we had struck out at catastrophic proportions. Even those who are playing now are either JuCos, position changes, or 1st year players. Robinson, Dorsey, Patterson, Etheridge are the only players who played last year and they haven’t had a DC for more than 1 year.

The DC hire might be even more important in the near future for turning it around then hiring Brohm.

Btw, auto correct does not like Brohm.

Cards WBB dispatches the Mocs 75-49

Five things to ponder in Louisville WBB win at McKenzie Arena over the Chattanooga Choo-Choo's:

1) Asia Durr. (Fill in your own comments). "Incre-Durr-able"

2) Louisville absolutely, positively needs to be more aggressive and produce better on the boards. When Jaz Jones is your leading rebounder with seven...it's time to light a fire under the gals (Sam, Bionca and Kylee) that are the "tall ones".

3) Three "second chance" points is distressing. The transition scoring finally kicked in during the second half. 10 days to work on it before Boise.

4) Applaud Walz's continuance of "playing them all" a bunch during the early part of the schedule. Yes, this could have probably been a 40+ point blowout, but, he's getting the young players valuable on-court, against opponents experience.

5) I hate MOCS-Vision. They insisted on showing Mocs highlights while live action was going on (namely Louisville possessions and scores). No dilly-dilly for that stuff.

Was anything ever said about Malik Cunningham's injury?

I feel like Malik gives us the best shot at upsetting U-ah-K. Was his injury status ever made public? I would hope he could get the vast majority of snaps against NC State. Of course, if he's hurt, well ... obviously that won't happen.

I feel badly for Pass, but the kid just dropped the ball TWICE in the last game, turning it over. We turn it over enough the regular way (when the defense actually makes a play), we don't need to add to things by just dropping the ball on the ground right in front of a defender. It was almost like he was shaving points. But then you realize there's no way he's shaving points, because guys who shave points would never do what Pass did. They'd try to make it look more real ... ya know, like waiting to drop the ball until they are actually HIT by a defender.

So ... I'm hoping and praying Malik can finish out the season for us. And am wondering if we know how badly he was hurt.

BP fired per Pat Forde

https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-louisville-fires-football-coach-bobby-petrino-161643932.html

Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino has been fired effective immediately, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Petrino was terminated Sunday morning and will not coach the rest of the season. The Cardinals are 2-8, have lost seven in a row and are winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Petrino has a large buyout, estimated in the $14 million range. But the fan base has bailed on Petrino and set its sights on hometown hero Jeff Brohm, currently the coach at Purdue.

Petrino, once considered one of the offensive innovators in the sport, has struggled badly since 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson left after last season. The Cardinals’ offensive struggles have been compounded by a defensive collapse late inthe season. Louisville has surrendered more than 50 points five times, including three games in a row.
