Tyra Job Performance

I got this idea to do a Pro/Con analysis of Tyra’s job performance up to this point. If anyone has anything to add to the list feel free. I’d ask everyone to keep in mind the mess Tyra inherited from the former regime as far as filling some of our bigger coaching positions.

PROS:

  1. The Chris Mack hire. Definitely needs to be noted Chris left his much beloved alma mater to come coach at UofL. Nice job to lure him away.
  2. Making the tough decision to fire BP. Vince had nothing to do with the previous contract and the buyout of BP. I think Tyra showed vision when he weighed the buyout against the potential loss to keep Bobby on staff.
  3. Coach Satterfield hire. Glad Vince kept his head and did not attempt to get into a bidding war with Purdue over Brohm.
  4. Spearheading the Little Yum Center donation.
  5. Replacing our much beloved, and successful Coach Lolla (after his resignation) of our men’s soccer team. I feel like he made a great hire with the up and comer Hayden.
CONS:

AP top 25 since 2000

Since the year 2000, UL has been ranked in the final poll 8 times, 4 times in the last 6 years.

2001: 17
2004: 6
2005: 19
2006: 6
2012: 13
2013: 15
2014: 24
2016: 21

Just for fun, I checked on UK, the newest addition of a football dynasty (in their minds) and their great rankings for the same period. The answer? Yep, zero, as in "0." Nadda, zip, cero, null, nolla, nol, sifir, nula, sero, etc. I just can't wait for spring and fall. UK and UL back to normal.

Expectations . . . .

Now I have much higher expectations for our recruiting classes going forward. This new staff headed by CSS will knock the ball out of the park in our traditional recruiting areas (FL, AL, GA, etc.). And I believe we’ll get a fair share of local kids from Jefferson County. In fact, I’m thinking that we will be picking up some good players with the few picks we have left.

This needs it's own thread, because it deserves it. It's freakin' IMPRESSIVE.

Scott Satterfield hired BOTH Cort Dennison and Stephen Field AWAY from OREGON. After they left U of L one year ago. OREGON. With Nike money. With a Top 10 recruiting class. And the #1 player in the country. In a PAC12 that they could dominate in short order.

And they left that to come BACK to Louisville.

That is AWESOME. (insert Chris Farley gif here)

What this says about Satterfield can NOT be understated. Doesn't it feel good to have a coach where young, up-and-coming, and/or very respected assistants WANT to come and work for??

Boys and girls, Satterfield may turn out to be a HUGE hire for us.

Cort Dennison returning to Louisville

Can confirm the Football Scoop and Pete Thamel reports that Cort Dennison will be leaving Oregon to come to Louisville as co-defensive coordinator. Deal was completed this morning.

Now waiting to hear if Stephen Field will return as well.
Definitely good news on the recruiting front.

Anybody here

want to talk basketball?

So what about this team? The Cards got beat by a team playing their best ball of the season.
No shame in that.

I thought defensively, there was too much attention given their post players. We got burned by the 3 quite a bit. I'd prefer to make those inside guys fight for their deuces than those easy treys. Idk,just me.

Offensively, I think the issues go deeper. I started a thread about who would be the guy that takes the point and there was some debate. Obviously, Perry is really struggling. I think if he makes the spot his own,he would excel. In other words, only think pass. He really struggles with the thought of being the guy that makes everybody better with the pass. Just think pass because he's our best passer.

If CC can play off the ball,he becomes much more of a threat,it opens up the whole offense.

Idk,still love this team, their effort and their outlook.

Temple's coach-less - but they're $6.5 million richer. Their 2017 media revenue? $4.92m

So a rough couple of weeks for Temple.

Losing Geoff Collins to Georgia Tech. Hiring Manny Diaz from Miami, before losing him two weeks later back to Miami.

But they'll pocket $2.5 million from Georgia Tech. And another $4 million from Miami.

This crushes what they got from the AAC in 2017, at $4.92 million.

So ... it's not all bad for the Owls.
