FB RECRUITING: Update on 2020 4-star DB

Keontae Jenkins is a 2020 four star corner out of Virginia Beach. He’s the younger brother of former 5-star and current FSU corner Levonta Taylor. Jenkins rose to promenince last off season with a good showing at the Charlotte three stripe camp, earning four star status. Since then his recruitment has blown up and he holds 18 offers.

Today he tweeted that he is thinking about making a decision. I reached out for comment and he told me he’s planning on committing before the start of the summer but still needs to visit Louisville and Penn State. I asked him if the new staff has been in touch and he responded that it’s the dead period but Pete Nochta was the last person from the ‘Ville to contact him a few days before the early signing period. Obviously we all know that Nochta is the lone hold over from BP2.0. It appears Jenkins is still on the board and he still has interest in Louisville.

South Regional March 28 & 30 - Yum! Center

Very interesting development with this year's South Regional at the KFC Yum! Center. Being that this regional is in Louisville everyone assumed UK was a shoe-in to be in Louisville. However, there are schools in Knoxville and Auburn that may screw that up! Tennessee is ranked #3 and Auburn is ranked #11, while UK sits at #18. Assuming that UT lands a top seed in the tournament they would most likely be slotted in the South Region. If that happens the chances that UK gets moved to another Region would be strong.

Honestly, for the City of Louisville this would probably be better from an economic standpoint. A good majority of the UK fans would not stay in hotels and would commute home. Having UT or Auburn in Louisville would require a weekend stay which should bring in more money.

College football HOF

You know, I often wonder what goes into selection for the college football Hall of Fame. Clearly it has a lot of lobbying behind it, and program “prestige”. While all of these players were great, they weren’t exactly record-setters. And we have had some record-setters here at Louisville that are NOT in the CFB HOF.

Some notable players at Louisville who have not been inducted into the HOF:

Chris Redman - finished his career at Louisville as the NCAA all-time leader in completions, attempts and 2nd in yardage. How is one of the top 3 passers in CFB history, at the time of his graduation, not in the HOF??

Arnold Jackson - Finished his career 1st all-time in receptions and first player to eclipse 300 receptions in a career. Not in HOF???

Dave Ragone - first (and maybe only?) player to win 3 consecutive C-USA offensive POY award.

Elvis Dumervil - Still 2nd in single-season sacks, 1st in fumbles forced in a single-season, and 1st in FF per game in a single season.

Art Carmody - Finished career as one of the most efficient kickers in NCAA history, and one of the all-time leaders in FGs and points scored.

Like I said, all of these guys being inducted were great players, but there is clearly a bias which is par for the course in college football. Darren McFadden? Really?

FB RECRUITING: Good news! Field is in.

There was some question earlier as Oregon was trying everything they could to keep him on staff, but Coach Field is coming back to Louisville to help run recruiting.

He is a difference maker, a tone setter. He’s one of those staff members who players trust, recruits love and other coaches want to be around.

Another home run for Satterfield and Tyra

Couple of Notes on Roster

Noticed Cornelius Sturgill on the roster. If I am not mistaken this will be his 6th year. Redshirted as true freshmen. Missed the following year because of a gunshot wound to the foot that he sustained in his beautiful and tranquil hometown of Memphis. Must have been granted a Medical Redshirt for the Gunshot Year. Gives us some experienced depth in the secondary.

Also noticed Gary McCrae. Was listed as a Senior last Season. Was hurt I believe the Indiana State game and did not appear after that. So I guess he was granted a Red Shirt for the 2018 Season. Prior to 2018 played a lot on special teams. Looked like he was going to get some playing time at DE under BVG last season before he got hurt. Tall and has pretty good speed. Will be interesting to see if he gets in the mix this year.

Louisville women's basketball #2 in AP poll

Louisville #2 in Monday's AP poll. 708 points and 10 first place votes. Notre Dame on top with 715 points and 12 first place votes (out of 30).

UConn, Baylor and Oregon round out the top five.

The Cards were #2 last year, after thumping Notre Dame in the YUM! 100-67.

Not bad for an "average" team with a "struggling" three-point shooter.

Onto Thursday. #1 vs. #2. South Bend. The Irish. In Purcell Pavilion on Joyce Arena court.

This could be fun. .

Louisville offers 2019 prospect in Georgia...

Louisville just offered Ja'Darien Boykin, a DE out of Jones County HS in Georgia.

He is discussing official visit dates with Louisville coaches now. He said he will definitely take one and it will be Jan 18 or 25.

Boykin is a good football player who was on many boards of top programs in the South, but he is on the shorter side and that held some back.

Malik Williams

loved his energy tonight, made smart plays and showed a lot of hustle. Love the kid, athletic, decent IQ, good shot blocker, plays hard. Has Cardinal written all over him. Impressed with Nwora and McMahons fortitude towards the end, when his shot wasn’t falling initially. Sutton always plays tough, such a backbone of this team. Especially impressed with VJ at the end with two great tip ins with some good rebounds and an assist or two. Psyched to see better ball movement. Great game, Go Cards!
