Time for a new Defensive coach?

Haven't posted since the KP disaster. Love our teams fight today. However is anyone else worried about our defense? This game reminded me of our bowl game when we were beat over and over with long plays by the other team.
Also, I really disagree with the overturn of the fumble by SMU late in the game. I think that pretty much sealed our fate. Anyway, Go Cards forever!

FB Cards Deteriorating Performance

This is amazing:

In their last 8 games played (including 3 from last season), the Cards are 3-5.

Against FBS competition in those games, they are only 2-5 (The only FBS wins were home games vs Georgia Tech and Jax State).

Against P4 competition they are just 1-5 (Georgia Tech being the lone P4 win)

I am disappointed. And shocked.

3-5 in last 8, and barely beat GT at that.

we barely beat Virgina last year, held onto barely beat a very weak Miami team that had 3 chances to win the game but failed and since then 3-5 with only a blocked FG scoop and score away from going 2-6, and if miami had beaten us then 2-7 over the last 9. play calling sucks and 100% offense fault for all losses and 100% fault of play calling, love the players, play callign atrocious. EVER HEARD OF FFFING PLAY ACTION JEFF AND BRIAN?!?!?!
EVER HEARD OF TAKING THE POINTS WHEN YOU ARE AT HOME AND PLAYING FOR THE TIE, KICK THE FFFING FIELD GOAL YOU DOLTS!!!

Sadly, from the beginning i said firing Satts and hiring JB was stupid and again, looks like i'm going to be right. are we going to beat clemson? miami? pitt? uk? doubt it. this is a 5 loss season for sure, 6 and possibly 7 losses total. KP showed us in bball we should never hire alumni, JB is proving me right again. i have no reason to believe Jb can turn this around, no faith in his play calling, and no expection to even finish .500, and yet we ran the other guy out of town for doing better than this. c'mon JBV supporters, those who said he was the answer to all our dreams, well, what do you have to say? someone prove to me i'm wrong.

Disorganized and dispassionate

The defense is a mess. Time to simplify things and get back to simple correct alignment and assignment. We are constantly out of position and got burned for long games due to their superior scheming. Not sure where Gillotte has been and frankly of linebackers and safeties seem to slow in coverage.

Offensively, we need to grow some stones. Repeatedly being denied on 3rd and short and 4th and short is mostly a function of heart. Shough running out of bounds instead of getting a first down shows a lack of heart. Don Chaney is too slow. Our offensive tackles are struggling big time.

The coaching has been horrendous. Terrible job by Brohm and English.

My concerns

I like JB as our coach but how can he not see who the hot player is throughout a game? When we got down in SMU territory 3 times in the last quarter he hardly ran Issac Brown, if he did at all? When something is working why would you ever go away from it? The excuse is “Well, they gave us a certain look that led to the plays we called” crap. Brown only rushed 10 x for 117 yards. That’s criminal imo. Some of his play calls in crucial moments along with selected personal is mind boggling.

Now the Offensive line. If the coach isn’t going to teach them how to pass block then Brohm needs to replace the coach.

Now the Defensive secondary. If the coach isn't going to teach them how to cover then Brohm needs to replace the coach.

Now the defense as a whole. If the Defensive Coordinator can’t have them ready and set for plays, and they give up that kind of yardage to SMU then Brohm needs to replace the defensive coordinator.

If you want to make it to the playoffs you can’t keep carrying your friends along.

Quick hits post game ....

-- Those Uni's sucked ballz. I hope to never see them again.

-- Post game interview, Brohm said the things I was feeling, so hopefully he's busy working his staff to make the changes we all saw that needed to be made.

-- OLine is definitely a struggle bus. @CardFanBudMan nailed that.

-- We better figure out how to defend a QB that can run. Otherwise, today will be a rerun we see the rest of the season.

-- DC Ron English has a lot to answer for. We looked completely unprepared. Knowing they go up-tempo, our D calls need to be much much quicker.

-- Having said all that .... SMU isn't a bad team. No shame in losing to them, although we shouldn't have lost. Ditto the ND game.

Some positives:

-- QB Tyler Shough throws a very pretty deep ball. If he had just a little more time, he'd be crushing this season.
-- Ja'Corey Brooks may be the best WR we've ever had at U of L. That kid is unreal.
-- Isaac Brown is going to be expensive to hold on to this offseason. Such speed.

Finally: VANDY, B!TCHES!

Awesome to see them own Alabama. On the downside, Vandy's next opponent --- Kentucky. What a gift to Stoopsie .... there's no WAY the Commodore coaching staff will have that team's attention to follow up this historic win in their next game.

FOOTBALL Jeff Brohm Postgame - SMU

(Opening Statement)

“Disappointing loss without question. So that falls on me, that falls on coaches. The plan was not good, it was not executed. Way too many mistakes. A really bad performance, especially on our home field. We have got a lot of work to do. That is what makes football a team sport, a tough game. You can either suck it up and find ways to fix it and improve or you can pout about it, sulk and feel sorry for yourself. So we have to look in the mirror and get a better plan together so that we can start better, play better in all three segments and then finish better and that did not happen today.”

(On the struggle slowing down their QB)

“I thought that there was a lot of miscommunication. It starts with coaching as far as running what is called and being able to not have so many adjustments that are made when they go to empty, when the motion guys in. We need to have a simpler plan to make sure our guys can play what the call is. So, there was some confusion there. The inability to tackle and wrap up well so the tackling was not good. It starts with us, so we have to fix some things.”

(On whether they discussed blitzing more on defense)

“Yeah, it was talked about all week and it was not carried out. We have to call a better game and make sure we are way more aggressive and that we have a consistent plan that doesn’t have adjustments when they do something different and that starts with us.”

(On whether they considered kicking a field goal on 4th and 1 in the fourth quarter)

“I wanted to get the touchdown, that falls on me we didn’t get it. We have been bad the last two games on fourth and one. Running up the middle is not going to be an option anymore. Throwing the ball, getting on the edge is going to be what has to happen because we can’t get yards pounding up the middle and that is disappointing. But that is the fact of the matter, so we have got to be better as coaches to recognize that and have a better plan because we passed it on fourth and one later and got a big gain. When teams sell out, we need to be more aggressive.

(On the offensive line struggles)

“The last two games have not been our best. We have struggled at right tackle a little bit. We had an injury today at left tackle that might be a long one. So, we have some new guys in there and we have to play better there. Now with that said in order to balance that out, it seems like when we need to move the ball and throw it, we have to get the ball out quicker. We have to be able to mix in the run. We have got to be able to do some different things to not ask those guys to pass protect as much because we were not as sturdy these last two games as we need to be.”

(On opponents getting off to fast starts and what allows that)

“Quite frankly, we need to coach better. The plan had too many adjustments for different formations and empty sets and things like that. I don’t want to get into too much detail, but it needs to be simpler and sound and then carried out. But we can’t blame it on our players, the plans need to be better. That falls on us and me. We have to go to work to make sure that part doesn’t happen again. We have not gotten of to fast starts and it has been costly.”

(On the reversal of the fumble call)

“I was surprised at it (the call) and I thought it was a fumble. Some games you get calls and some games you don’t. We didn’t respond very well and we need to be better. There are a lot of things we need to be better. It was not a good day on the football field for us. We fought back and gave ourselves a little bit of a chance but when you play good teams you have to be way more consistent. We are not doing that right now and that means we need to coach better.”

(On bouncing back after two losses and not letting it get off the rails)

“That is why football is a great game to play. It teaches you great lessons that last for a lifetime. You will go through hard times. You can be a man enough to identify what the problem is and figure out how to fix it and then go to work and get getter and have the same energy and determination to get that done. Or you can wallow a little bit and feel sorry for yourself and point the finger at somebody else. Or say is it really worth it? That is what you have to do. If you are going to play the game and spend a lot of time doing it, these things are going to happen. You will have some tough days. You try not to have them but you are. You have to respond. I have to do better, the coaches need to do better and the plan needs to be better. Then, we have to figure out a way to simplify it so that we can execute it better. Then we have to, in my opinion, when guys are not performing the way we want, then rotations need to be made to get other players in the game right away – immediately. I don’t see that happening. So we have to make sure that there are other guys who can play the game just as well and if we need to be changing things up more to create competition that needs to happen tomorrow.”

Upsets

Lots of real upsets yesterday! Not sure our game was an upset. Vandy v Alabama yes! I havent watched the Vols so not sure about them. There were a few others as well. We will probably fall out of top 25 but that could be a wake-up call for players and coaches. Our D looked terrible! Offense was kind of vanilla and predictable at times.

Would you rather be a Bama fan today?....

Or a Cardinal fan? Imagine the butt hurt they are going thru now? Losing to a cellar dweller is not the same as losing to a prior year league AAC champ. That was the league we left for the ACC.

Hats off to SMU...they came to play and we didn't. The Mustangs proved out today that you better be ready to run with the horses or you are gonna get beat. Will be interesting how they fare vs the rest of the ACC this year. @Stamford.@ Duke ,Pitt, BC, @UVA and finish with Cal.

Dayum they could win all of those games IMO, if they play like they did today.
