FB RECRUITING: Couple quick recruiting notes...

The recruiting chaos has started and considering the recruiting prowess of this staff I'd expect that will just continue over the next couple weeks. Anyways, just had a few quick things I wanted to drop by here that weren't big enough for an individual post.

- 3-star CB Dequanteous Watts told me that Louisville coach Bryan Brown is expected to visit him on Wednesday. Watts is still waiting on a Louisville offer at this point.

- Louisville safety coach ShaDon Brown is expected in to see two California prospects, safeties Don Chapman and Tuasivi Nomura. Nomura holds a scholarship offer from Louisville's new staff but I don't believe Chapman does. The significance here is that both are former Colorado recruits (where Brown was at before Louisville), with Chapman being a former Colorado commit. It's always good recruiting guys you had a previous relationship with.

- There has been at least some level of contact between the staff and UTEP grad transfer TE Josh Weeks. Weeks is waiting to hear word if Louisville may have a spot for him or not but he is at least interested. Weeks originally committed to BYU out of high school, went on a 2 year mission before enrolling at BYU, then transferred to UTEP, so he is 25 years old and could provide some experience in the TE room.

FB RECRUITING: Louisville coaches set for visit with athletic NJ TE

New Jersey tight end Tyler Devera tells me that he is expecting a visit from Louisville TE coach Stu Holt and Dwayne Ledford on Tuesday. While Devera does not currently hold an offer from Louisville, I wouldn't be surprised if that changed following the visit. At 6'5" 227lbs and with a 4.68 40, Devera is a tight end that can stretch the field. As a senior, the former Rutgers commit totaled 45 receptions for 613 yards (13.6 ypc) and 5 touchdowns.

Edit: To clarify, Louisville's coaches are visiting Devera at his school, not home.

WBB's Fast start disables the Ramblin Wreck 61-44

The Cards came out running on all eight cylinders against Georgia Tech with a 15-2 start and got 21 points out of Asia Durr in the 17-point win down by the river Sunday. For "clunkers", flying through the air with the greatest of ease, second-chances and the Sam I Am Chronicles, let's wince as the Yellow Jackets miss another one and go to:

FIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME

5) I know there's a rim up there somewhere.
26.2% shooting isn't anything to write home about, unless you were on the defense that caused it. The second quarter may have been the worst in recent Georgia Tech WBB history, going 2-12 from the floor. Imagine getting 12 more shots and making six less baskets than your opponent for 40 minutes. I'm betting that Tech head Coach MaChelle Joseph attempted to throw away last night's stat sheet and, you guessed it, missed the trash can.

4) I can do that. Asia with the "did you see that?" block on GT's Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (say that fast five times). Practices and standards won't allow me to print what Asia shouted after the rejection. A good overall game for the Georgia Peach with 21 points, for assists, five rebounds and 8-16 shooting. She had eight of the Cards first 10 points before the first timeout, A 15-2 start for the Cards. She's baaackkk. Be very afraid, ACC.

3) Wham, bam...thank you Sam! Ms. Fuehring with her first double-double of the year (13 points and 14 grabs) --channeling her inner- Myisha Hines-Allen Sunday afternoon. Plus 4-4 from the charity stripe and four assists. Against a strong rebounding (if nothing else) G.T squad. With six players over 6'2", Tech can be a formidable force on the glass. Sam decided to ignore that and go get the ball. Credit as well to the Cards guards who kept finding her with interior passes, too.

2) Hey, has this thing got a pea in it? A blessed relief in the lack of whistle-blowing Sunday -- for the most part. Just 37 total fouls in 40 minutes. A total of only 19 free throw attempts. Only one Cardinal with three infractions and no UofL disqualifications. Of note: Jeff Walz sauntered over to our side of the court pre-game and spent about five minutes talking to the ACC representative on press row that grades the officials. I'm pretty sure they weren't discussing trendy dining venues or the Patriots passing game.

1) The return of the team concept. The Cards created 19 assists on 23 baskets and got 23 points off of turnovers. None of this standing around watching Asia work. Very little allowance of giving the Wreck unlimited access to driving the lane and making layups. Space and movement in the offensive sets. Hey, you've got five out there on the court -- might as well get some activity out of them. Rebounding and giving up second chance points still a worrisome aspect but a very solid win over a very dangerous Tech squad who couldn't buy a bucket with BitCoin on Sunday.

15-1. Any landing's a good one that you can walk away from and, although J.J Airlines was held in check with just two points an no rebounds in 21 minutes, the Cards navigated the swarm of stingers, dodged the Ramblin' Model A wreck on the runway and touched down safely before 10514 flight observers.

Louisville's ACC MBB Record since Joining

After the game yesterday, I decided to look up the Cards' ACC record while a member of the ACC:

All-Time since ACC membership started in the 2014-15 season (4 full seasons plus 3 games this season plus 4 ACC Tourney games altogether): 48-31 (0.608)

Mack: 2-1 (0.667) (3 regular season games)
Padgett: 10-10 (0.500) (1 full regular season plus 2 Tourney games)
Pitino: 36-20 (0.643) (3 full regular seasons plus 2 Tourney games)

Teachable moment for those projecting 2018-19 UL BB season

Great win today, and it just further demonstrates the futile nature of those projecting these “must wins”, like at Pitt this early in conference play. This team did it on both ends today, and while UNC might argue it was merely a horrible offensive day for them ........... UL’s aggressive defense had a whole lot to do with it.

As far as making the NCAA field ........... while we can say that we clearly improved our chances today, it is way to early to figure out who the ACC will be sending beyond the usual suspects in Duke, UVA and VT.

** Louisville Women's Basketball Updates...

- This is Louisville's first game after the disappointing outcome of the No. 1 vs. No. 2 game. Cards fell against Notre Dame at Notre Dame. The result was expected, but how the game ended was the disappointing part with the poor calls, the poor response from Louisville and Arike Ogunbowale taking over the game.

- Georgia Tech women are coming out of the gate trying to bully the Cardinals. Pushing, elbows, some hard fouls. Louisville leads 7-0.

- Good solid crowd here on a Sunday afternoon. I'm guessing 8 or 9,000. That is great to see.

- Louisville ended up scoring the first 10 straight points and 15 of the first 17 points, leading 15-2.
