A little surprised this is dragging out...

I am a little surprised that the interview itself is even dragging out. Obviously the longer this goes on, the worse things are from a player perspective. De-commitments and transfers were to be expected, but it will get worse as time moves closer to Dec 15th.

I would have thought all vetting and contract details would have been very settled prior to discussions, and that may be the hold up.

Again, the more I look into Satterfield the more impressed I am with him. And I even did some checking on Nate Woody, who I tend to agree with Howie is very likely to join Satterfield as DC here. In 2018 GaTech was a 'fair' defense. Ranking about 46th...(by comparison was 122nd)...and that was Woody's 1st season with the Yellowjackets. At App State he led a top 20 defense his tenure there.

And again, I think you give Satterfield and Woody the resources and talent that we have at UL and these guys will be very, very good. At least that potential is all there.

Finally, I will say this again. With the kind of staff these two can put together, I very much believe UL will be a bowl team again next year. (perhaps just barely, but a bowl team yes).

FB RECRUITING: 2019 three-star TE Sam Snyder has decommitted from Louisville

Per his mother, Sam Snyder has decided to open his recruitment and decommit from Louisville.

"Sam decommitted from Louisville tonight," Janelle Snyder informed cardinalsports.com "That was a very hard call for him to make."

The three star tight end just wrapped up an official visit with Baylor this weekend but has not committed to the Bears.

"The (official visit) was absolutely amazing though!," said Snyder.

Snyder was offered by Baylor on November 18th. He has already received an in-home visit from Baylor off-field assistant coach Evan Cooper who recruits the Florida area. He also received an in- home visit from Missouri tight ends coach Joe Finley. The Tigers have not offered yet but are still in contact.

FSU and Michigan have also expressed interest in the Fleming Island tight end and may visit him at home as early as Monday evening. Rutgers offered Snyder on November 28th.

Snyder plans to sign with the school of his choice by December 19th.

Louisville is now down to eight commitments in the 2019 class just two weeks from the early signing period. Losing Snyder hurts. The 'Cards lost Kemari Averett due to rape allegations and Mickey Crum to graduation. Jordan Davis is the only scholarship tight end on the roster for 2019.

Luke Fickell > Satterfield

I really do not understand why there is not a bigger call for us to get Luke Fickell. He is what our program needs if we are looking for someone with coaching experience. Fickell has been on staff for 2 national titles. He was a D-Coordinator under Urban Meyer, so was Charlie.

1. We are rebuilding. Satterfield walked into a program where the scheme and culture was already established. He was an assistant on that staff for a coach he played for years ago. He didn't have to come in and make changes. He was an assistant at other low level programs for 3 years, but he only knows App State football.

Fickell was at Ohio State and played there, but he did coach under 2 different Hall of Fame coaches. He had to walk into a dumpster fire and he got them to 10 wins in only his 2nd season. He had to come in and turn around a program and change the culture, and he's proven he could to that quickly. He also had the 1 year of being an interim at Ohio State after Tressel was fired in May. Fickell knows what handling a bad situation is like in a big media market.

We need a coach that can come in and get things rolling quickly, Satterfield walked into an established culture, Fickell rebuilt a culture on won.

2. Recruiting. Satterfield has only been at a regional school and has never had to go after big talent outside of that part of the southeast. Fickell is from our region. Ohio State recruits nationally. Fickell has a commit right now from Trinity.

3. Coaching staff. Though Satterfield is respected and we will have the budget for good assistants, will they fit with him? He's been in the same school and system forever. Will he be comfortable with outsiders or will it fit? Fickell probably has connections to some of the best coaches and recruiters in the country. I would feel better with a Fickell staff than a Satterfield staff.

4. Fit. Satterfield coaches in a rural small "college town" in a conference that gets no media pressure. Fickell coaches in Cincinnati, an urban area, and has been the head coach at Ohio State where there was a lot of media pressure. Fickell knows this area.

5. Urban Meyer's coaching tree. It just has produced a lot of successful head coaches.

Remember that other guy we that was doing well in Cincinnati that we hired last spring? Chris Mack? Yeah, he seemed like a good fit. Satterfield is a great coach, but sometimes a good coach isn't a right fit. Charlie is a good coach and was a perfect fit here, but was he a good fit in Texas/Pac-12/Blueblood?

This next coach is taking over a roster in shambles. We will have an exodus of transfers and guys that need to be talked into staying. We will have a FCS level recruiting class. The new coach probably won't even be able to get his first class of guys in until the fall of 2020. Fickell could probably get us some guys now. Fickell has dealt with a coaching change and a rebuild. Satterfield ONLY knows App State.

Fickell is a better fit. Change my mind.

All Bowl Game Selections 2018 & How Does The College Playoff Work?

BOWL GAME SELECTIONS 2018

The following Bowl Game Selections for the 2018 college football season can be found below and on our Bowl Projections page. Both of these pages will have bowl updates and our College Football Today predictions for each bowl game leading up to our 2019 College Football Today High School All-American Bowl in Addison,Texas.

TOP 4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAMS 2018
Lets take a look at how our College Football Playoff model would project this year in College Football Today.
SEC Championship - #1 Alabama vs #5 Georgia
Big Ten Championship - #22 NorthWestern vs #6 Ohio St
ACC Championship - #2 Clemson vs #23 Pitt
Big 12 Championship - #7 Oklahoma vs #15 Texas
PAC-12 Championship - #8 Washington vs #19 Utah
Wow, so we would automatically have Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Washington in the College Football 8 Team Playoff as automatic Power 5 Conference winning bids for the right to compete in the CFP. The remaining three teams are now very visibly easy to mostly everyone involved with this selection process and they would be as follows: Notre Dame, Georgia and UCF. The winning streak UCF has been able to produce has been quite fun to watch and they were able to complete yet another undefeated season in the American Conference. Many would argue for others for that remaining 8th ranking in the College Football Playoff, but their overall body of work would then be much harder to look past.
1. Alabama vs Washington
2. Clemson vs UCF
3. Notre Dame vs Ohio State

HS ALL AMERICAN FOOTBALL GAME

The Scout Trout All-American Bowl was held at the 2018 NFL Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama and was our first ever successful bowl event in terms of producing over 100 scholarship offers out of one game in total. Many FBS teams attended, like South Alabama, who are currently recruiting Top RB recruit Jay Stanton. This year, we moved our 2019 All-American Bowl to Dallas,TX at Alfred J Loos Sports Complex and our Bowl is now known as the College Football Today All-American Bowl. Playbook will be released in full in the next two weeks. Check out some of the videos from the event below or visit www.ScoutTrout.com to learn more about our College and Pro football training.

Interesting note on Satterfield from Mark Ennis ICYMI

"Multiple sources have indicated to me that Satterfield has put off inquiries from all other suitors (GT, Colorado, and perhaps one other) in order to speak with Tyra first tomorrow."

This was posted yesterday, meaning they will talk today. I thought that that was interesting.

Would be nice to have a coach that actually WANTS to be here

** Sunday Quick Hits -

"The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part"

- Tom Petty

- On Friday, a source at Appalachian State told us Satterfield and Tyra were going to meet Saturday night. That plan changed Saturday morning and I updated the thread yesterday at 2 pm to reflect the shift.

- I believe Tyra and Satterfield are meeting today. What time today is the question. How quickly will we hear is another question.

- I certainly have my ear to the ground (and texts and DMs out there).

- I still believe Satterfield is the top candidate and if everything goes well in the meeting he'll be Louisville's next football coach.

- Wrapping up a bit on the Brohm deal or no deal. Just for the record, it wasn't just a "feeling" from me last week when I posted that I was feeling good - it was word from recruits, word from agents, assistant coaches looking for houses and filling out the coaching staff kinda done... but then, of course, it wasn't... this isn't NEARLY that far along, but I am feeling good.

- While we are waiting... here are some links:

- Dave Lackford broke the story on Jon Greenard's transfer: https://louisville.rivals.com/news/louisville-defensive-end-intends-to-transfer-to-florida

Statement from UofL on Jon Greenard

"Jonathan Greenard confirmed today with the UofL Athletics department he and his family have not had any communications with the University of Florida about transferring."

UofL also said "Jonathan Greenard has not put his name into the NCAA transfer portal."

It is my understanding that players aren't supposed to have contact with another school until their transfer paperwork is complete so it is no surprise at all that Greenard hasn't talked with Florida yet.

I think Lackford's report still stands based on what we are hearing: https://louisville.rivals.com/news/louisville-defensive-end-intends-to-transfer-to-florida

My updated wish list

With Brohm and Venables being off the board, here's what I would like to see:

Ryan Day, OC Ohio State. Coaches an explosive offense and recruits National Championship contender players. Recruiting ties are mostly in the fertile grounds of the northeast. Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.

Day hires Randy Shannon as DC. Shannon has always fielded a good defense and is DEEPLY entrenched in Florida recruiting, especially the Miami area.

Hire these two and you get great coaching along with a HUGE established recruiting footprint.

Off Topic - Kareem Hunt

How many on here agree with the Chiefs for releasing Kareem Hunt once the video of him out of control hitting and kicking a female became public?

Personally, I believe in our constitution and honor that everyone should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. That video shows he was guilty of losing his temper and assaulting that young woman. The Chiefs did the responsible thing and released him once the video became available to the public.

What I am a little confused by is this happened in February (if what I read is true), so why didn't the Chiefs act then? I know they claim they hadn't seen the video. Not sure I believe that. Feels like a cover-up exposed to me.

More questions. Why on earth does this keep happening in the NFL? There is a long ugly history of this behavior in the NFL. Is the game just so violent that the players are unable to turn on and off that button or is this a bigger deeper social issue that needs to be addressed thru discussion?

I Respect Brohm's Decision, But I Believe He Has Just Made The Worst Decision Of His Life

Devastating day as a UofL fan. There's no other way to spin it.

Yes we will get a coach and will probably get a good coach, but Brohm was the only one who could almost immediately put energy back into the program. Brohm would have almost single hand-idly locked down recruiting for UofL in Jefferson County. Brohm would have had the season tickers holders immediately renewing. Brohm would have brought a hope that this football program, indeed this whole university, needs right now.

I respect Brohm's decision and have respect for the fact that he wanted to show loyalty to his players. It shows how much he cares for them and I can't fault any coach for wanting to stay with his players.

With that said, Brohm will never be at Purdue or any other university what he could have been at UofL. Brohm will never be able to win a National Title or Big Ten title at Purdue, Purdue simply doesn't have the football profile or facilities. At best he can win some Big Ten West titles and have some really good 9 - 3, 10 - 2 type season. At UofL I truly believe Brohm could have won a National Title and in the very least could have won several ACC titles. Even if Brohm has great success at Purdue, he'll always just be a great coach to them. Purdue fans will never have the connection with Brohm that UofL fans have. At UofL he had a chance to become a legend. To become our Bear Bryant, our Knute Rockne, our Bobby Bowden or our Nick Saban. Brohm at UofL had a chance to become the most beloved person in the entire city of Louisville. To become royalty in the city of Louisville. To have schools and roads named after him. Heck, there would be many UofL fans (myself included) who would be okay renaming the city after him if he brought UofL a National Title.

Brohm had a chance to finally finish the vision his head coach, Howard Schnellenberger, laid out all those years ago. The prodigal son, the first elite recruit that bought into Howard's vision, coming home to finish the vision. It would've been a story that Hollywood couldn't have written.

I respect Brohm's decision, and still consider him and the Brohm family the first family of UofL football. With that said, I truly believe Brohm just made the worst decision of his life. He may not regret it immediately, or even in a couple of years, but l do believe later on in life he will greatly regret his decision to not become head football coach here at UofL.

I wish him the best of luck in his coaching career.
