WBB recap

Sorry this is a couple of days late. I didn't get to attend the Tuesday night WBB game against Tenn. St. (work) and didn't even get to listen on radio.

So, this will be brief.

TEN THINGS

-- Cards WBB won over UTM Tuesday night

-- Cards WBB scored over a 100 points

-- Asia Durr is amazing

-- Jeff Walz didn't coach. He was practicing for the one-game suspension he'll have to serve in first round NCAA action. Steph Norman handled the duties, post game presser and pre and post game talks to the team. I heard she did great. The assistants helped. Walz did talk to players when they came out of games. It was Ugly Sweater Night. He wore one. So did a lot of other people. I even wore one at work. No one knew why. I work with idiots.

-- Kylee Shook didn't play. Tendinitis. She should be fine for UK

--UK is next on Sunday. UK will fail. They'll return to Lexington 9-1.

-- It's a "red-out" game, so don't show up in your lavender suit and blue cummerbund. You will be detained, questioned, observed, criticized, ridiculed, boxed-around-the-ears and Three Stooges style gouged in the eyes as well as possibly reprimanded. Wearing Red is encouraged. Does anyone wear cummerbunds anymore?

-- The Cats have a pretty decent freshman. She'll fail also.

-- Matthew Mitchell will whine, moan, cry and complain about something. He always does.

-- Terry Meiners stuck his foot in his mouth this morning on TV when he wished Walz good luck against Rhode Island. The Cards do not play Rhode Island. The Cats do. Tonight. Draw your own conclusions about this. Nice prep work, Ter !!

Howie, Can you forward this to U of L and Yum Center Please

My wife and I took our 5 year old to his first game tonight, and our first game since he was born, and he had fun and is totally a cardinal fan. Just two notes however about the Yum center and some simple changes that should be made.

First, it may sound corny but it was my son's first national anthem and i would think it would help all young fans if they actually put the words to the national anthem on the big screen. he had no idea what was being said and couldn't wait to sit back down but if he could have seen the words it may have helped him pay attention. it'd probably help us all to be reminded of the words every once in a while.

second, and most importantly, for any persons who have color blindness issues, the scores on the main scoreboard in the hue of red cannot be seen. i have dichromatic color blindess (lack of red tint) and i have to look to the end zones to the left of the galt house signage to see the score as they are in white numbers. but on the main scoreboard, if you have red/green issues, the scores are almost impossible to read. maybe have someone do some research as simply changing the hue of red will help but right now stinks to watch a game in person and not be able to read the score in front of your face because no one ever thought that others may have issues.

the nfl did the same thing with their color rush uniforms and when the jets played they disappeared into the field and i could only see numbers running around. (https://deadspin.com/stupid-nike-uniforms-wreaking-havoc-on-colorblind-nfl-f-1742272136).

thanks for your help

FB RECRUITING: ** Running Staff Thread - Satterfield's Staff

** Running Staff Thread - Satterfield's Staff

Just spoke with a source at App State who said that most of the staff will want to come with Satterfield (he generates loyalty). I'm not sure how many of these guys would end up here, but I asked them an open-ended question:

Which coaches want to come with him?

Here's what they sent:

"OC Frank Ponce
DC Nate Woody (now at Georgia Tech)
RB/Special Stu Holt
WR Justin Stepp or Justin Watts
OL Shawn Clark
TE Nic Cardwell
DL Mark Ivey
LB Dale Jones
CB SHeil Wood
Safeties Greg Gasparato
S/C Mike Sirignano"

I will continue updating this thread as I get more information

Kinda quiet over here

I don't know why we're not chirpin more on this board about the game.
High quality win on the road against a highly motivated team and crowd. I felt like the whole country was waiting for the Cards to fall on their faces after that Michigan St win...and probably hoping for it.

The fellas got off the mat several times to land a late fight knockout.

It was a thing of beauty imo.

Redskins add another Cardinal today ... Former 1st rd pick Marcus Smith

Skins add Marcus Smith today, along with a QB and 2 O-Linemen.

Hope Marcus can help the injury riddled Skins .... I am worrying again about the temperature of Jay Gruden's seat ... the amount of injuries sustained can sometimes be accepted by management ... but sometimes it isn't. Jay had the Skins cooking, but the train has been derailed with massive injuries all over the place.

Satterfield's Without-Cause Buyout...

75% of his remaining contract if he's fired without cause. How that translates to U of L's dollar amount obligation...

Fired now: $14.6 million
After Year 1: $12.2
After Year 2: $9.8
After Year 3: $7.3
After Year 4: $4.9
After Year 5: $2.4
After Year 6: $0

Petrino was fired after Year 2 of his final contract, and his buyout reportedly grosses up to $14 million. At that same point, Satterfield's is $10 million. "Vince" also was on record saying that he was going to negotiate around/out of/without large buyouts going forward.

Moral of the story (again): Don't believe everything you read and hear...

Next 2 weeks

could be an indicator if Satterfield can recruit at this level. I'm not expecting him to take us from #80 to #30 ranked class, but its obvious we have 6 open scholly's right now before you factor in transfers. BIG "IF", but if he can somehow flip a couple local kids and go out and grab another handful of some talented players, then I will be thoroughly impressed. Tough ask, but still could be an indicator.

Am I the Only One Feeling A Bit Cleaner

Success aside, it just feels kind of refreshing to be rid of some of the oily film that covered the program over the past few years. You just get the feeling that Bendapudi, Tyra, Mack, and Satterfield are going to go about their business in a different way. No more FBI wiretaps, champagne dorm rooms, neck braces, restaurant backrooms, pilfered game plans, or extortion trials. Better times appear to be on the horizon.

Pay Grade

According to USA Today, Satterfield will be the 41st highest paid FB coach in the country, at $3,250,000, and the 7th highest paid in the ACC, just under Virginia's Bronco Mendenhall. (Petrino's deal made him the 25th highest paid coach).

Satterfield's salary at Appalachian State was $712,500 per year. He had been the 96th highest paid FB coach in the U.S.

His "without cause" buyout after the first season is $12,187,500, giving him a lower buyout than any published figures for ACC coaches except those from Georgia Tech and NC State. His "without cause" buyout declines $2,437,500 each year.

Satterfield's max bonus is $1,225,000 per year, which is in the low-normal range of published figures for ACC coaches. His maximum bonus at Appalachian State had been $295,000 per year.

Satterfield may buy himself out for any reason for $5,000,000 through Dec 31, 2020, then $3,500,000 through Dec 31, 2022, and then finally for $2,000,000 through Dec 31, 2024.
