What grade would you give the 2018 UofL sports year?

Let's see, the men's basketball team didn't make the NCAAT after a tumultuous season. But, the women made the Final Four and had a great year. The baseball team had a good season, but couldn't get out of the Regionals. The football team obviously sucked beyond our wildest imaginations. The soccer team had a big year, despite the disappointing early round tournament loss. Mallory Comerford continues to do great things in the pool. Dorcas Wasike was recently named ACC Runner of the Year in Cross Country. I'm sure I'm overlooking other athletic dept. highlights. Obviously, the revenue generating sports had difficult 2018's, but there are still many positive things happening with athletics at UofL. But, those two revenue generating sports carry a lot of weight towards the final grade. Despite the encouraging start to the 18/19 basketball season, and the women's undefeated start, I'm going to give UofL's 2018 sports year a C.

If True a Positive in Recruitng for UL

Read yesterday that not as many players are expected to sign in the early period as a year ago. Last year approximately 80% of the D-1 recruits signed in December. There is no way to know for sure but the people that follow recruiting closely feel that number will drop to somewhere around 60%.
I think that helps UL this season because there will be a larger pool of Kids that are still available and we will probably need to sign around 10 to 12 kinds in February.

FB RECRUITING: Flash update on Zach Williamson and Ty Murray

I was told by a Louisville source that both players will sign with the 'Cards this Wednesday. Both told him, unsolicited that they were signing on the 19th. Kids will sometimes tell a staff that and also tell another staff that as well but in this case I'm going to trust my source and report they will both put pen to paper in favor of Louisville this Wednesday.

FB RECRUITING: Update on 3-star LB Dorian Jones.

So I finally caught up with Dorian Jones and he told me the following:

"The visit was great, I had a blast. The city was great too. I loved the atmosphere and the people. I also like what the coaches are doing on defense as far as the scheme goes. I think I would be a great fit."

That's all I got from him and he never answered me when I asked if he was going to sign this Wednesday.

I also spoke with a Louisville source who told me that Jones, who is committed to Indiana has not flipped and that he has some thinking to do. Louisville is confident they did everything they could on their end to pull of the flip but didn't get an affirmative answer nor were they told if he would sign on the 19th/20th or wait until February.

The weekend before last, Jones took an official visit to Bloomington. I'm sure he would have told me he had a blast, the city was great, blaze blah if I asked him about that.

If I had to choose where he winds up right now I would pick Indiana. He has the longer relationship with them and Louisville kind of came out of nowhere. That being said, if opts not to sign Wednesday Louisville will be very much in the game. I'll have more on this situation as it develops.

Rankings?

There can be no doubt there's a bias against Louisville if they are still unranked come next week. They now have 5 top 100 wins in 11 games. They have beaten a top 10 team and two of their losses are against teams currently ranked.

They have a true road win against a top 100 team and their loss to Marquette was due to a horrible call that Dan Dakich of all people agrees with.

They have the toughest schedule and they pass the eye test with a 10 deep rotation. They have a budding superstar in Jordan Nwora and a head coach everyone agrees is outstanding.

So why are they not ranked? Instead teams like Syracuse, Clemson and Florida State all have been ranked or still are. Louisville this last poll wasn't even close to #25.

I know rankings mean nothing in college hoops. Still, I would like to see some national media ask why the Cardinals are not ranked and suggest that there might be a bias. I'm tired of this crap. It's been going on since Denny Crum beat Duke in the finals. For all of our great history as at least a top 7 all time program, we have been ranked #1 during the regular season just one time.

Lack of recruiting on site

It's becoming rather bothersome with the lack or after the fact recruiting articles on this site. Many of the other free sites have a much better response time.

I've been a member since long before there were even premiums. But if things don't pick up or get better as far as timely recruiting updates I'm no longer going to pay for premium content. It's just not worth it!

Challenge of being Football Coach at UL

There is an article in the Houston Chronicle this morning about TX A & M having the 3rd ranked(per 247Sports.com) recruiting class in the Country. Ironically its also the 3rd ranked class in the SEC. Their class currently has 22 Commitments. 17 are from the state of Texas.

When your home state does not produce a lot of D-1 talent it makes it very difficult to produce a highly rated class. I would be surprised if we ever have a class inside the top 20. That's why its really difficult to understand why our prior coaching staff was not all over one of the best classes the State of KY has ever produced.

Coach Satterfield and his staff have their work cut out. They are going to have to work their butts off to get the best kids they can and then coach them up.

BREAKING: Lolla resigns as Louisville soccer coach

University of Louisville Vice President and Director of Athletics Vince Tyra announced Tuesday the resignation of Ken Lolla as head coach of the Cardinals men’s soccer program. Lolla submitted his letter of resignation to Tyra on Tuesday morning.

“Thirteen years ago, God blessed Tina and I with the opportunity to come to Louisville and be a part of this amazing Cardinal family and the Louisville community. We are forever grateful for the acceptance, support, and love we have received from the Louisville community. It has been an honor and a privilege to represent such an outstanding institution and special community,” Lolla said. “Recently, we have received similar promptings from God that it is time to seek new challenges. We have always been faithful to those promptings and we will move forward faithfully, knowing there is a calling we are to fulfill.

“It has been our mission to leave the men’s soccer program better than we have found it. We are proud of the University of Louisville soccer program that has been built and our humble role in helping young men reach their true potential in all areas of life, while representing the University at the highest level. The program is poised for further growth and great achievement. We are so delighted to call Louisville home.”

“We respect Ken and Tina’s decision and wish them the best,” said Tyra. “We have enjoyed great success over the last 13 years under Ken’s leadership and appreciate his contributions to our program and community. Our university has made significant investments into our soccer program through resources and facilities, and the lofty goals of our program will continue moving forward. We will begin a national search for our next head coach immediately.”

Lolla accumulated a 155-77-39 record overall while leading the Cardinals to 11 NCAA Championship appearances during his 13 seasons as head coach. Lolla guided Louisville to one College Cup berth as the national runner-up in 2010 as well as five total NCAA quarterfinal appearances. The Cardinals registered their first ACC Championship title in 2018 before ending the season with an 11-5-3 record overall after a second round loss to Michigan State in the NCAA Championship.

UL vs UK if Game Played Today According to Sagarin

Cards would open as a 3-4 point favorite. ACC has 5 teams rates in the Top 25. Interesting Tidbit UL schedule rank # 28 , UK schedule rank #284, Cards have had a much tougher schedule, and played true road games with a record of 1-1. UK has yet to play a true road game! Liking our chances more & more as this game gets closer. Becoming hard for me to believe this UK team is going to come into the Yum, beat us at home, when team that is vastly superior to UK at this point Mich St, was not able to do it. Our team is focused, and just brings their lunch pail, goes to work every game. What at some others who have thoughts on this game??

UL could be GaSouthern next season...

I watched that GaSouthern vs Eastern Michigan game. Ga Southern had a TREMENDOUS turnaround from last year to this.

They went 2-10 last year to 10-3 this year. UL may not reach THAT goal, but I had said in several posts already that I believe with a much better coaching staff, that this team has the talent to go to a bowl game. I stand by that. And I think CSS is putting together a good staff so far; which strengthens my belief.
