What is going on??????

People laugh at talk of jinx or curse but something weird is going on with the hoops program. If Jordan hadn't blocked that shot and we lost this game today, the season might have been over. Half of the fan base would be ready to jump off the Lincoln bridge.

I have never been a coach but can someone explain to me why don't coaches throw the pass long down the court when trying to get the ball in under the opponents goal with 3 seconds in the game? Why give the opponent a shorter shot if they get the ball?

Despite the win, the players weren't happy as they shook hands and left the court. Like the fans, they don't know why this shit is happening. All of a sudden these teams are expert full court press teams that don't foul and on offense make multiple 30 footers. Sutton was pushed down and no whistle. Cunningham at the end was pushed down and no whistle. Ted Valentine and his typical BS call with a jump ball when the Clemson players hands were all over the Cards players arm.

It's like the Cards unexpected success this season has woken the evil spirits and they are doing all they can to stop that success. I can only be thankful we actually won the game today. I don't think much of the fan base would be able to get over another blown loss at the end. Heck, it's hard to get over with the win.

What the fudge

Just came from the sports bar here in balmy chandler az and I'm still in utter disbelief on what I just watched unfold before my very eyes. For me it wasn't so much that they did it, it's how they did it. I know I keep harping on it but again the mental focus of this squad is beyond sketchy . How are you up 20+ with the clock on your side and start jacking up ill-advised shots, I just don't get it. Once the turnovers started you could smell this storm brewing a mile away. I've seen us fall asleep at the wheel on numerous occasions but this was freaking too much. I know players play and coaches coach so Mack may need to take part of this on the chin as well. Oh well what's done is done and I say at this point we suck it up and look to the next game and begin to avenge this dreadful debacle by completely handing Clemson's head to them on a platter with all of the trimmings as we have to make an example out of somebody. I know its just "Clemson" but somebody has to pay for this. We can't let this slide. Can't wait to see the headlines in the morning as they will try to make Duke out as the best team ever to dawn a basketball uniform. Unbelievable !

ACC Men's Basketball Standings as of 12 noon Fri 2-15 -- Clemson looks dangerous to me

Here's where things stand with Men's Hoops in the ACC as of Friday afternoon:

1. Duke 10 - 1 . . . 22-2 overall

2. Virginia 9 - 2 . . . 21-1 overall
North Carolina 9 - 2 . . . 19-5

4. Virginia Tech 8 - 4 . ... 19-5
Louisville 8 - 4 . . . 17-8
Syracuse 8 - 4 . . . 17-8

7. Florida State 7 - 4 . . . 19-5

8. NC State 6 - 6 . . . 18-7

9. Clemson 5 - 6 . . . 15-9

10. Notre Dame 3 - 8 . . . 13-11
Boston College 3 - 8 . . . 12-11

12. Miami 3 - 9 . . . 11-13
Georgia Tech 3 - 9 . . . 11-14

14. Wake Forest 2 - 9 . . . 9-14

15. Pitt 2 - 10 . . . 12-13

Clemson is on the bubble, and needs to win every game they can to try and move themselves OFF that bubble. A win AT the YUM Center this Saturday would really help them in this regard. And this is a team returning 4 starters, that went to the Sweet Sixteen last year, losing to Kansas by 4 at a shot at the Elite Eight. So they have ability, and are pretty dangerous, at least in my mind.

Hopefully, we don't let our collapse against Duke Tuesday night effect us tomorrow afternoon. I predict that it will effect our crowd. Or team will have to do it without the raucous environment they had going for them Tuesday night.

As others have noted, baseball starts today ... vs. ranked UConn ... news & notes on the team linked

The Louisville Cardinals take the mound tonight in Florida, versus the 20th ranked UConn Huskies, in the first of 3 games. Radio coverage on 93.9. Tonight game is at 6. Tomorrow scheduled for 3. Sunday schedule for 1.

The Cards are the coaches' pre-season pick to win the ACC.

Reid Detmers gets the start tonight.
NIck Bennet is supposed to go tomorrow.
Bryan Hoeing will get the nod on Sunday.

The Cards return 24 letterwinners, including 7 position players and 11 pitchers.

Here's hoping for a nice start to the season this weekend.

Sutton at the 1?

Welp, it's pretty obvious that if you pressure our guards and / or make them play fast that we struggle holding onto the ball. Now that it's been seen in back to back games it's time we make an adjustment or keep living and dying by what's going on.

I think coach should look to play Sutton at the 1 a bit like we did with TWill in the 2019 seasons. IMO, Sutton doesn't panic when people body him and he has enough know how to slow it down. Also, he can see over defenders.

Now, I'm not saying he needs to be PG the entire game but when things go bad in the final 10 minutes of games, like the last 2 have been, let's get him the rock a bit more and change the lineup.

1. Sutton
2. CC
3. Nwora
4. Williams
5. Enoch

Def sub - Fore
Off sub - Ryan

Thoughts?

Countdown to 1st Pitch

Let it begin. Friday night 6pm the Cards finally get the season underway at Lakeland Fla, against pre-season 20th ranked UCONN. Interesting to see the Huskies come in ranked,

The Huskies bowed out at the hands of Washington last season in the Regionals after a really strong season. I'm guessing they return a lot.Should be a great series and weekend.

Can't wait!!

Another play that cost us...

Shot goes up, Zion pushes off (no call, woulda been his fifth foul), but the ball bouces over Zion’s head and CC runs it down in the corner as Zion falls. CC then slips where Zion had fallen and turns it over leading to two points. So, the refs lack of balls to call the push in the back keeps him in the game, aids them in CC turning it over and Zion never fouls out! Ouch.

Back to the Duke game for second

Did anyone feel comfortable when we were up by 23 ? Just about everybody I have talked to said they just knew the bottom was going to fall out and Duke was going to comeback. My buddy looked at me when they cut it to 12 and said "I'll bet you a beer we lose this game" of course I didnt take the bet because I felt the same way.

I think we have been beat down so bad by everything the past few years that we just expect the worst..

Postive Valentine's Day post

1. Lost in the haze of our collapse is something that should be pointed out...Duke came into town with the reputation of not only being able to beat people, but embarrass them. From the opening tip our team mentality was to take the game to them and we attacked them in every conceivable way--ESPECIALLY on the offensive end. Fore attempting a dunk on a baseline drive sent a message to Barrett that he wasn't going to be able to take the night off defensively; Nwora shooting the gap from the backside defensively and getting an uncontested dunk...and sticking a jumper in Williamson's eye. A fantastic help side block by Malik to generate a fastbreak.

...I didn't see one ounce of fear in any of our players. And I also didn't see Zion Williamson be able to expand his highlight portfolio at our expense with a dunk or spectacular block...and it wasn't because we went to the Four corners to avoid him or packed it in around him to keep him from getting the ball. There won't be any of his multitude of spectacular plays in a Duke uniform that will include us. That will be highlights against UK or some other poor saps from Ga Tech or BC.

2. I thought the blackout was a rousing success; it looked fantastic on TV.

3. Denny Crum was one of the all-time greats as a bench coach and getting something on the offensive end in late game situations coming out of timeouts; Rick was a maniac in preparation and was great at making a team beat them with a second or third option. But neither one of them remotely could get points out of a baseline inbound play like Mack. He embarrassed Williamson twice with dummy plays on the weakside low block for Sutton.

FB RECRUITING: Feedback from a couple recent visitors highlights culture change

After Louisville hosted an impressive group of visitors for the Louisville/Duke basketball game the other night a couple prospects, Carrington Valentine and Izayah Cummings, really gave great examples of the culture change that the new coaching staff has brought about.

Carrington Valentine, a 3-star WR/DB from Cincinnati, OH said of his visit " had an awesome time with all the new coaches. It was a fun time! The only downside was Louisville didn’t get the W."

Of note, Valentine said he played some games with the coaches. "We played some pretty competitive games of Mario Cart", Valentine stated, saying he played against Coach Brown, Coach Dennison, and Coach Nochta. "I came in second a few times. Funny, Coach Brown seemed to dominate. He didn't let up on the gas".

Cummings was also able to spend time letting loose with the coaches.

"It was great, besides the loss" Cummings said. "I really enjoyed myself there. had a great time with the coaches and also played some cornhole with them." Cummings, who stated that he won 3 matches, said one coach was the clear-cut best at cornhole. "Most definitely Coach Ivey", Cummings remarked.

Overall there has been a lot of talk by the new coaching staff of improving the culture and it hasn't taken long to see the that new culture permeating the program. Examples like Valentine and Cummings show firsthand that Scott Satterfield and staff are practicing what they are preaching. Not only will that help with current players and hopefully on-field production, this is the type of behavior that should ultimately payoff on the recruiting trail as well.

so...which loss is worse?

the incredible meltdown last night; or coughing up a furball to lose a game to UVa with 0.9 seconds left?

Regardless of whichever one you choose, Louisville has two of THE worst loses in the history of college men's basketball...worst as in losing when they should not have.

BTW, loss last night was almost...but not quite as bad as the football loss to FSU.

Why the HELL is it that UL sports continues to lose in such really epically bad ways?
