Coach Mack

Really like some of the things he's said addressing the collapses at the end of games. Two main points.
1. Stop falling down so damn much. coach Chris Mack harped on his players to be stronger with the ball and to use their bodies.
"The guys have got to be able to stand up when we're breaking a press, not fall down like they're walking down through a wine cellar," he said. This has always driven me crazy about Ryan McMahon but in the two catastrophe's to FSU and Duke; CC and Khwan were falling down like folding chairs.

2. Protect the ball. Don't turn your back on a defender and be strong when you catch it. He was miffed that Sutton lost that jump ball against Clemson by not protecting it with his arms and body.

No ACC caliber guards should be falling down they way we do and so weak with it. So Mack is addressing it and hopefully we will have learned and be better from it by tournament time. I saw in an article that Cuse may start out pressing so we'll see early on tomorrow night if they've improved.

VJ, where art thou?

Man, VJ has really disappeared this season. He's barely seeing any minutes and has been ineffective when subbed into the game. I think Mack may have given up on him along with the rest of the fan base. We really needed his length against top teams but he looked lost and hesitant when on the court. He can't have regressed that bad. Dude needs to eat and sleep with a basketball to work himself back on the team.

More evidence recruiting rankings have serious flaws. Rivals gives 3 stars to made up player

Pretty funny story ... high school kids create fictitious player, claim he has offers from Alabama, Georgia and others ... and the kid gets 3 stars from Rivals, and makes the 247 composite rankings.

Blake Carringer, 6'6" 315 offensive tackle from Knoxville.

FB RECRUITING: Newest Louisville commit Ronald Delancy details why he chose the Cardinals

While he is only listed as a 2-star currently by Rivals, Louisville's first commitment in the class of 2020, Ronald Delancy, is an impressive prospect that Louisville was able to land before his recruitment really blew up. A Miami Northwestern prospect (yes, Teddy Bridgewater's Miami NW), Delancy has a good frame for a DB (6'0") with great speed and the ability to break on a ball in an instant. While he may be able to grow into a safety down the road with his frame, Delancy has the skillset and athleticism to be a lockdown corner you can put on an island and completely neutralize one side of the field.

"Louisville's the school for me", Delancy stated. "Like I have watched highlights of other players and I was just sitting there like dang, that could be me. I pictured myself at Louisville".

Knowing two players on Louisville's current roster, Tutu Atwell Jr and Trenell Troutman, Delancy said that the previous success of Miami Northwestern athletes at Louisville didn't really play much of a role in his commitment here, although he did acknowledge the pipeline.

"Miami Northwestern is a very great program to be at! But I tell you no lie, Miami Northwestern and Louisville has a great connection! And both have two great programs so...".

Louisville's new quarterbacks coach, Frank Ponce used his South Florida connections to pull Delancy out of Miami and Louisville's most recent commitment thinks highly of the former Appalachian St. coach.

"Coach Frank is a great man, inspirational, encouraging coach". said Delancy.

Next Year ACC Hoops schedule released - 20 games, 6 teams home/home

The ACC released the opponents for the next 3 seasons. Next year starts the 20 game conference schedule.

The schedule is set up this way:
We have 2 permanent opponents that we play home and away --- PITT and VIRGINIA.
Then we will play 4 opponents, home and away ....
And the rest of the league (8) games one time - four at home, and four away.

The second year rotates 4 new opponents home and away, and the third year rotates the last 4 teams we haven't played home and away, to finish getting through the entire league.

Pretty clean way to get through the entire league.

Next year .. in addition to PITT and VIRGINIA, we play CLEMSON, FLORIDA STATE, GEORGIA TECH, and MIAMI home and away. Not too bad.

We get UNC, SYRACUSE, VA TECH, and WAKE at home.
We play DUKE, NC STATE, BC, and NOTRE DAME away.

UCLA targeting UVA's Bennett for next coach ...

https://www.zagsblog.com/category/recruiting/

Most of the linked article:

UCLA is targeting Virginia coach Tony Bennett as its next coach and he hasn’t turned them down yet, a source told ZAGSBLOG Thursday.

“They are going hard after Tony Bennett and he has not said no yet,” the source said.

Yahoo’s Pete Thamel
wrote last week that UCLA “covets” Bennett, and multiple sources confirmed that he is among their top tier of targets.

Still, many in the industry find it hard to believe that Bennett, 49, would ever leave Virginia for UCLA, which though a blue blood is not the program it once was. Bennett is 240-88 (.732) in nine-plus seasons at Virginia and has them positioned for yet another No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

One source close to UCLA said the “only issue with Bennett is the grinding pace” of his style of play.

“That cost [former coach Ben] Howland,” the source said. “They never embraced him because of his defensive approach. The low-scoring and methodical pace was not appreciated by Coach [John] Wooden or the fans.”

UCLA fired Steve Alford last year, owing him a reported $4.5 million.

Under interim coach Murry Bartow, UCLA is currently 13-12, 6-6 in the Pac-12.

Other names being considered at UCLA include former Chicago Bulls and Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin, Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski and Houston’s Kelvin Sampson, sources said.

“All of them are in the mix,” a third source said. “But they’re still in season so it’s difficult to know who’s truly interested from that group.”

The next UCLA coach will be the 10th since John Wooden departed in 1975. That’s 10 in 44 years, about the same average tenure as a typical UCLA student.

One longshot name to keep in mind is Lakers coach Luke Walton, who could be in play at UCLA and his alma mater Arizona if that Pac-12 school opted to move on from Sean Miller.

There is widespread speculation that the Lakers will part ways with Walton, possibly before the season ends, and you can already get good odds on Jason Kidd, Tyronn Lue and Mark Jackson replacing Walton.

Comments by Malik Cunningham after Practice # 2

Couple things he said caught my attention:

1) Said he probably did not watch enough film last year. I suspect this was an issue with the entire team.

2) Said new offensive scheme is a lot simpler than previous scheme. Really glad to hear this because I think it is much more likely Cunningham or Pass will markedly improve YOY because of that. I think both struggled with the complexity of BPs offense.

Great win....

WTF....right?

Here's why......everything that could go wrong pretty much did, but we still won a game we absolutely had to. Now put this behind us, go to Syracuse, and win a game that is a BIG game at this point in the race for a double-bye.

Last question....how in the hell can the refs swallow their whistles when we threw it away at the end? The Clemson defender CLEARLY pushed Sutton (who had great position to receive the inbounds pass) to the floor with his right arm and NO FOUL CALL!! That was total BS, and can NOT happen with a game on the line like that.

Thank GOD Jordan made a huge block to save it.

AMIR HALL NFL

Amir Hall is the best 2019 NFL Draft D2 prospect heading into the NFL scouting combine seasons. Amir is one our Best 2019 D2 Football prospects page and is being added to our Top ten 2019 NFL Draft QB prospects list after this press release is completed. Read more below Amir Hall's Black College Football Player of The Year Award picture, as he took home this prestigious award for the second season in a row!

2019 NFL DRAFT AMIR HALL

2019 NFL Draft QB Prospect Amir Hall had one heck of a career at Bowie State and was able to throw for 10,198 yards and 94 touchdowns in his historic NCAA football career. His average of over 325 yards per game passing the last three years of his career is bewildering given the fact he did this at the D2 football level. Yes, he had weapons, but the way he delivered the ball perfectly into tight windows on the football field and on time, is quite fun to watch out of this young gunslinger from Bowie State. (Regular season stats) Hall had 4,152 yards in total is senior season, which ranked 5th in all of college football in passing yards.

Horrible week for UofL sports

Men's hoops blow 23 point 2nd half lead against Duke and almost blows the win against Clemson. No good vibes coming out of that locker room.

Baseball team opens the season losing two out of three to UConn. Very uninspiring play from the highly ranked Cards.

Then the ladies hoops, after a week off, lose at home to Miami after being up by 14 points.

Hope we got this crap out of our system because big expectations remain for all three teams.

Spring Practice

It’s raining, it’s nasty, it’s cold and February but Scott already has those boys back in gear and popping pads. Really like what he’s doing here but quickly putting our historically poor season behind us and getting back to work. I feel like we are building a blue collar, Workman like team and I’m hyped thinking about what the future holds.

We are going to be laughing at Brohm by November.

Don’t @ me.
