BASKETBALL: Ranking Blue Bloods

If UConn were to win their 6th national championship on Monday I believe they have an argument to say they’d be 3rd best college basketball program historically from a championship perspective behind UCLA and UNC. Six championships which would be across 3 head coaches.

UCLA has 10 between 1964 and 1975, 11 overall with last one in 1995. Runner up 1980 and 2006. The 10 titles was in the 32 team tournament format. Plus basically all success with one coach.

UNC has won 6 championships 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, and 2017. The 1957 tournament had 23 teams. They have 6 runner ups. Titles with multiple head coaches.

While UK has 8 but 4 of those are 1948, 1949, 1951, and 1958. Only 8 teams in the ‘48 and ‘49 tournaments and 16 in ‘51 and ‘58. UK does have the 1998 and 2014 finals appearances too.

Duke has 5. 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, and 2015, but all with one coach.

Cayut Karma

I had a funny experience on Sunday while having lunch at a local establishment. A man in Yut garb and family sat down behind me and the father started throwing shade at the Razorbacks and their inability to find a replacement for Musselman to his son. Chris Beard said "No way", even Jerome Tang said no, yada, yada, yada. All loud enough to hear 2-3 tables away.

As Ghost said in another thread, they are truly the dog that caught the car.

NC St

Watershed moment in this season or just another series?
I could even say in the state of the program as it stands today.
@Bardman,what's that streak up to currently on lost ACC series?
If there's any chance, outside of winning the ACC TOURNAMENT,of getting enough wins to get an at large bid,it starts tomorrow night.
Time for this team to stand up and be counted.

Good Read On Big Man Commit James Scott

Now, Scott has a chance to play in the ACC at Louisville, a program that is certainly looking to change things around and rebuild under new head coach Pat Kelsey.

Though it may still take a bit of time to adjust to playing at that high level, Scott is one of those bigs that I would be on high alert about with his blend of potential, his size, and his impact on both ends.

Scott has a chance to be a huge presence and elevate his game even more, and especially become a well-known prospect in the ACC if his game comes all together. He certainly can do so, and this could be a very underrated get for a program that is trying to build itself back to where it was not long ago.

Worried

Understand, I’m a worry wart, not a negative Nancy. My concern is that CPK is fishing too much in non-Power Six waters. Don’t get me wrong, the dudes he has landed so far look like good ones and yes, I fully understand that there are tons of examples of great players coming up from lower divisions. And, maybe I’m still seeing red flags based on my severe PKPT (post Kenny Payne trauma). And, maybe I am looking for too much too soon (add Nervous Nelly to worry wart). But, I would like to see a few more Division 1 guys mixed in with the others. I understand that CPK is an analytics guy when it comes to recruiting, but (I think) he has to understand that the prototypical Div 1 player might have certain physical attributes that is not always present at lower levels of competition.

So, I’ll be as patient as I can be but patience is not my strong suit. Just curious to see if I’m the only one with this concern. Also, if anyone knows a good therapist who specializes in PKPT, please let me know.

BASKETBALL: College Basketball Crown

The College Basketball Crown will consist of sixteen teams that didn’t qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The inaugural tournament next year will take place in Las Vegas from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6 at the T-Mobile Arena.

The 16-team tournament will include a minimum of two participants each from each of the Big Ten, Big East, and Big 12, with additional teams selected by a committee.

It remains to be seen what the rest of the field will look like. Would it be filled out by other high major schools, like those in the ACC and SEC, along with even more schools from the Big Ten, Big East, and Big 12? Or would the College Basketball Crownselection committee leave those aggressively mediocre schools out in favor of mid-majors with shinier records, like Indiana State?

I ask this question every year about former Cardinal, Arnold Jackson

Why do we hear nothing about AJ?

All time Louisville records:
-Receptions 300
-Receiving Yards 3670

-The first college football player to reach 300 catches
- 32 career TD receptions(2nd All-Time at Louisville)

If bowl stats had been included in his playing days he would have amassed:

323 receptions(Would be 7th All-Time)
3922 receiving yards(Would be 25th All-Time)

Why is his #10 not included in the honored Louisville jerseys?
Why has he never been introduced/honored at a game?
Did he and Louisville have a falling out?
Does anybody know what he is doing? If he is coaching somewhere?

Some National Media show bias in calling UConn foul call “controversial “

In either real time, or in the replay ……. there is no question the illegal pick was the correct offensive foul call.

I have been as critical of WBB officiating as anyone, but last night’s game between Iowa and UConn was as well-officiated as any game that I have seen. The last call was not only the correct call, it serves as one of the most obvious examples of what one cannot do when setting a pick. Moving the foot towards the defender is sufficient to qualify as a violation, but raising the arm up and making contact with the defender is equally sufficient…….both occurred on that play.

Any media member trying to suggest that call was either controversial, or borderline is showing bias for UConn, or against Iowa.

The SEC vs the Rest of Us

First, PK is doing a great job here so far. So this is not a knock on him at all. I'm happy we have him and we are lucky he is here.

But I am going to post about this because it drives me absolutely insane.

Chris Beard and Will Wade were arguably the two most "attainable" coaches with P4 success this offseason. There were dozens of coaching openings, but no school would touch them because of their history of scandals. Also, there was some rumor on Rutherford show about a prior issue with Tang, although I have no idea what it is and can't comment on it.

Muss left Arkansas for USC. Arkansas' first call? Chris Beard. Ole Miss's rumored top candidate if Beard leaves? Will Wade and Jerome Tang. Chris Beard now rumored to be staying at Ole Miss. Arkansas' rumored short list after Chris Beard? Jerome Tang and Will Wade.

There are two moral standards in college sports: (1) The SEC, which operates under the assumption that WINS are the primary goal, and (2) everyone else, who adheres to some dumb and unwinnable moral code. The SEC has hired Beard, Wade, Petrino twice, Kiffin twice, Cal, Urban Meyer, Hugh Freeze twice, and the list goes on, and on, and on.

The SEC consistently does anything it takes to win, to the point of hiring people with major scandals and even cheating, and Greg Sankey goes out with a slick smile on his face like a lizard and talks about how they are the standard, and the competition is better in that conference. They have NO moral code. They put winning first. And you look at TV contracts for sports, and SEC is lightyears ahead of everyone in terms of money, to the point that it is almost impossible to compete with them budget-wise anymore. And you wonder why that is? Look no further than the sacrifices they are willing to make to win.

Everyone outside of the SEC needs to WAKE UP. Winning comes first in sports. I hope PK does whatever it takes to win, short of hurting anyone or putting anyone in danger. I am confident that he will get the job done. And our AD and President: Please pay attention. Every athletic decision from this point forward needs to be about WINNING. Athletic success drives University success.
