Celene Funke named to 2020 Academic All-America Softball First Team

She's the only Cardinal Softball student-athlete to receive the award three straight times.

She graduated in May with a 4.0 cumulative average and will be back for one more season, while pursuing her MBA in finance.

She's also the President of the 2020-21 Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Funke has excelled on the softball field as well. She led the nation in triples in 2019 (13) and has been a Cards starting out-fielder for three years.

The softball Cards have had some very good outfielders over the years. Nicole Pufahl (2015-18) comes to mind immediately. Jordan McNary (2014-17) has to be included in any stellar Cardinal Softball outfielder list also, the Madisonville, KY native patrolled left field for the Cards and is still active in the Louisville area, along with Pufahl.

I wonder if Celene Funke isn't the smartest outfielder the Cards have ever had !!!
