FSU Recruit class Falls apart

Florida State: There's no context needed for a FSU class ranked 16th in the country. That's just not good enough. But the circumstances of Wednesday were a particular slap in the face. Willie Taggart lost Legendre and Andrews to Maryland, and he looks unlikely to hang on to Cross, who happens to be one of the best safeties in the country. Compounding the damage is the fact that, with the failure to secure a quarterback, Florida State is about to go two straight signing classes without a high school QB signee. The Seminoles did land critical offensive linemen Ira Henry and Darius Washington, but that doesn't quite soothe the disappointment of the other losses.

So ... help me figure this out ... who helps us more with a win tonight? UVA, or Duke?

Both UVA and Duke are 8 - 1, a half game up on us in the standings.

Who should we root for?

Duke's NEXT game is against us, in the Yum. So, do we want them coming in fat, happy and big headed with a win over UVA? And .... given our inability to beat UVA, do we need Duke to hang a loss on them tonight?

OR

Do we want UVA to win tonight, putting a loss on an uber talented Duke squad that poses serious match up problems for us (and hell, for everyone)? We get to play UVA two times still, so chances to hang L's on them, and battle them for standings supremacy. And we only get Duke once.

Who should we be rooting for?

Cards in a Tough Spot Today

Cards on the road today against a rapidly improving FSU team! Cards have been road warriors in the ACC! Today they are in a must win game, if they are to maintain their hopes of winning the ACC! The schedule is very unforgiving from here on out! A couple of things to note. First UL being in contention to win the league against Duke, UVA, UNC! Those metrics say UNC has already been split. Duke is a home game for UL. UVA is a home at home series down the stretch! A win at FSU today puts UL in a spot few had thought was possible at the beginning of the season! Get a win here , and 2 homes games against your competition! Well you get it don't you??Cards vs FSU, the numbers do not say UL should be -3 on the road! Vegas has wrote this game as a UL loss! Ken Pom & Sagarin support UL is the better team on a neutral floor! For the life of me I do not understand why we are a 3 point dog?? I get it it's tough to win on the road! Just don't understand the game not UL being a 1-2 dog! I think it's the mindset that UL is a fluke! Have played a weak schedule in league so far! Now your up against a FSU with Leonard Hamilton! I get it Hamilton beat Xavier, and Mack last year! That does not mean HAMILTON is a BETTER COACH THEN MACK! If that why didn't we go after Hamilton instead f Mack? Question answered! So that said UL has the better Coach, the better team according to the metrics ! What does this say to me UL WINS BY 2 POINTS ON THE ROAD AT FSU TODAY!! GO CARDS!! ALL ABOARD!! ALL ABOARD!!

Tradition and Recruiting...

If I counted correctly, 294 (72%) of the 410 Rivals 4/5 star prospects signed with the 20 all time top finishers in the AP polls. At least 17 of those all time 20 finishers (I'm excluding AR, MI St and NE which just have not got much done lately) are still regular Top 20/25 finishers today.

That makes it pretty damn tough on the rest of us and puts an even greater premium on this thing we call "coaching". Despite a horrible 2018 I am cautiously optimistic about a "good" 2019 that would hopefully set the table for years to come.

Peace

Vince Tyra's daughter sold homes to new Louisville football coaches

Tim Sullivan, Louisville Courier JournalPublished 10:32 a.m. ET Feb. 7, 2019

Concerned by the appearances of his daughter Sydney Tyra acting as a real estate agent for three of his football coaches, University of Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra has asked that she donate to the university her share of commissions on the sales of more than $3 million in prime property.

“I’m sure she worked hard on it and did a good job, but in the same vein, I don’t think it’s something I should have to deal with or we should have to deal with – any optics on that,” Tyra said Wednesday afternoon.

“... I don’t know that there’s necessarily a school rule against it, but I’ve been clear about trying to come in and run a program without any poor optics on this kind of stuff.”

U of L head football coach Scott Satterfield and two of his top assistants have used Sydney Tyra as an agent in relocating to Louisville. Last week, Satterfield purchased a $1.6 million estate about a football field away from the Prospect property of Cardinals’ basketball coach Chris Mack. Dwayne Ledford and Bryan Brown, U of L’s new offensive and defensive coordinators, have selected slightly more modest homes in Lake Forest.

Though all three of the coaches said Wednesday that they felt no pressure to hire the boss’s daughter, a licensed agent with Homepage Realty, the university is acutely sensitive to perceptions of conflicting interests and self-dealing following the 2017 audit of the U of L Foundation.

“We are aware of the concerns raised about the business relationship between Vince Tyra’s daughter, Sydney, and three of our football coaches,” university spokesman John Karman said. “Vince understands that even the appearance of conflict could damage his reputation and that of the university, and he has assured us that he will avoid similar situations in the future. Meanwhile, Sydney Tyra has decided to donate her commissions from these sales to the university.”

Sydney Tyra did not immediately respond to interview requests placed Wednesday.

“She’s a good kid, worked really hard,” Homepage Realty founder George Barrett said. “(But) right now, she’s not able to enjoy what should be a big deal for her. Hopefully she understands (and) she doesn’t get discouraged by this.”

This year, out of the top 50 on the list, 46 signed an LOI with a Power 5 University, 2 signed with UH, and 2 were undecided. Kenyon Stewart whom visited UL was rated #57 and was listed as undecided. Of Course there are roughly 4 million people in the Houston Metro Area.

FB RECRUITING: Louisville NSD wrap-up

National signing day is in the books for the Louisville football program and I wanted to just close with some general thoughts of the day, recruiting class, and where things go from here.

- The word culture has been brought up multiple times and for good reason, there was a definite lack thereof present with the previous staff. Tonight the entire feel of the room, from the three early enrollee's that were there to the coaching staff and how they talked and interacted was completely different than last year.

- I was talking to someone about the players already on campus and how they are responding to everything. It definitely seems like the attitude of the players has greatly improved and everyone is really excited about the direction of the program overall.

- Along with the word culture, the other word that has been thrown around a lot has been fit. This class didn't really move the meter from a star or recruiting ranking standpoint but the fact of the matter is that every player Louisville took has a very specific role that they were signed for. Going through the players and positions I don't see guys that the coaching staff just had to take because no other players were available and they needed a body. Coach Satterfield and staff set out with very clear plans as to what they wanted and were able to bring in a very impressive group of prospects.

- You can always tell from how coaches talk who they really like and would make an immediate impact. In this class, the two that really stood out to me were Jackson Gregory and Monty Montgomery. Satterfield said that Gregory will likely be one of the strongest offensive linemen from the moment he steps foot on campus and is someone they are really excited about. The other, JUCO LB Monty Montgomery, was also mentioned as someone that could make an immediate impact. I was talking with someone tonight about Montgomery and they said the thing about him is that he has a very dominant presence and he is very serious about his goals and what he wants. That shows up on the field with things like not letting anything get between him and the ball carrier.

- I inquired about Dequanteous Watts but unfortunately there really isn't anything more to report at this time. I'll continue to monitor the situation and keep you all updated, though!

- Evan Conley to me appeared a little bigger in person than I thought he was. With how the coaches talk about his leadership and work ethic and now seeing his size, I'm beginning to think more and more about the possibility of him claiming the starting job this fall.

- Strength and conditioning coach Mike Sirignano talked about a new program "King of the Ville", which will basically have 8 teams that compete in a variety of aspects such as strength and conditioning, on the field, academics, social events etc. I really like this for the culture of the program because it is a great way to create accountability amongst the players and truly build a player driven culture.

- Thank you all for following along and really making another NSD on this site amazing. I'm thankful I get to do this and look forward to another great year covering recruiting and Louisville football!

Funny how things can turn out in sports

Nic Cardwell ASU TE coach lost his job at ASU now works again for CSS as a non contact coach. Phillip Hicks, Zeb Speir and Myquon Stout were former players at ASU kept good relations with CSS and now got jobs at UofL as GAs..
Todd Grantham is one of the final candidates for DC for the Cinn. Bengals. I wonder what Jon
Greenard is thinking now.
