Things to know about the 10th seed Minnesota b-ball team

21-13, (9-11) 7th in the Big Ten

The 21-13 Golden Gophers have one of the best double-double guys in college basketball in Jordan Murphy. But this is a poor offensive team, one of the worst shooting teams in major-conference college hoops. Keep an eye on Amir Coffey, who has the talent to combine with Murphy and keep them in the game against many a superior opponent.

According to cbssports Minnesota is ranked #46 out of the 68 teams, while UofL has been ranked #26

6'8 210 Amir Coffey 16 ppg 3 rpg (37 for 121 3pt) 30%
6'6 250 Jordan Murphy 15 ppg 11rpg
6'10 225 Daniel Oturu 10 ppg 7 rpg
6'4 200 Gabe Kalscheur 10 ppg 2rpg (72 for 173 3pt) 41%
6'5 195 Dupree McBrayer 9 ppg 2 rpg (41 for 141 3pt) 29%

Coach Mack Talks NCAA Tourney, Playing Minny, Richard Pitino

Q: Have you seen Minnesota?

MACK: Not really. Like every coach that's in the college game, games are on at night, but you have your own opponent that's up next and that's really what you're focused on. But I'd be lying if I didn't say games weren't on in the background. But I didn't have a great feel for them two hours ago. I'll continue to get a better and better feel as hours roll along.

Q: Any thoughts on the early tip time?

MACK: As long as it's the same time for Minnesota as us, I'm not worried about it.

Q: Will you talk about your tournament experiences with your team?

MACK: Yeah, I try to use any experience I've had. That's what you do, you draw on experiences and you remember things you think can help your current team, and this year's team's no different. But when they tip the ball up Thursday morning or Thursday afternoon, depending on where you're watching the game, it's whoever's better that day.

Q: How do you approach your players who haven't played in the NCAA Tournament before?

MACK: That's okay. I don't think Minnesota's much more experienced. We just have to attack, we have to play to our identity, make sure that defensively we're locked in, we're in a stance, we're racking up kills, pushing the ball and trying to take advantage of what we can do in transition.

Q: Do you know Richard (Pitino) at all?

MACK:
I know him a little bit. I mean, I wouldn't say well. He's always been really good to me. But we all sit on the same AAU stools during the recruiting periods. I know his teams are really physical. Minnesota is a team that almost at every position has really good size, they draw an awful lot of fouls, especially when they win games getting to the free throw line. So we're going to have to be a team that tries to keep the ball out of the lane; that's who we've tried to be all year long. And we're going to have to be at our best on Thursday to do that.

Q: Did some of the guys talk about playing Pitino's team?

MACK:
I'm sure the whispers between players and teammates was part of it.

Q: Did you expect a No. 7 seed?

MACK:
Knowing that we were going to be in the tournament, I didn't worry myself whether we were a seven, six or eight. Because as you know you're slotted as a six but they have to move you to a seven, or you're slotted to a seven and they have to move you to an eight. The neat thing was I felt like every two seed that was going on the board, we had played, and the NCAA tries to keep you from having a matchup you've had previously in the second round. But who we've played, it's almost a possibility. I was hoping that they would seed us three or four to get that out of the way

Q: Was the Michigan State game (early in the season) important in seeing your potential?

MACK:
In hindsight, it was important because of our resume' and needing wins like that. I learned a lot about our team in New York. Certainly we wanted to win one, if not both of them. Felt like we had the Marquette game, but came back with the sense that if those are two of the top 20 programs in the country then we can give ourselves a chance to win on any given night. I think our players felt that way as well.

We never felt like we were playing so above our heads that gosh we're going to have to match that in order to keep a game close. Never felt that way, and I think those games against those two opponents sort of gave our guys a sense of like, we need to play better in certain areas to finish games, win games, so it was nice to be able to do that the very next game against a very high level opponent. I think it have our guys a shot in the arm and we needed it because of the type of teams we played damn near all year.

Q: What about there being a Pitino on the other sideline?

MACK:
I mean, it's the elephant in the room. I coached a few of the guys that played for coach Pitino. I would hope for the Minnesota players and our guys the game becomes about the game. Can't control about what people are going to talk about, write about or report on. But you can only beat a horse so long.

Q: Do you like the way your team is playing going into the tournament?

MACK:
Do I think we can play better in certain areas? Yes. But I think our team spirit has been a really good one. I've really enjoyed coming to practice with our group. We're not perfect. We have some holes here and there, but so do a lot of teams in this tournament, and for our guys to continue to fight and stick together. . .We went through a tough month and the teams in this league can steal your confidence, especially when they're playing at a high level. But We earned where we are today. There are teams that go into the NCAA, just look at the history of the tournament. There are teams that go in on such a roll and they're home Thursday night, and there's teams have lost a few in a row down the stretch and nobody really believes in them, and the next thing you know they're in the Elite Eight. I've seen both sides of it. I know our group is excited to play. I'm sure Minnesota will be excited to play as well. Our guys have worked hard since the spring when we took over and I'm glad they've had this moment.

College Football Recruit Rankings & Recruit Rankings Camps at CollegeFootballToday.Org

NCAA FB recruit rankings camps open in Loveland, Colorado on March 31st . Our first recruit rankings camp will be held about 30 minutes from the former home of College Football Today's home location at Loveland Sports Park in Loveland, Colorado. We held a small rankings camp at this location years back that was able to produce around 10-15 scholarship offers for only around 8-10 athletes late in the process. We will be conducting football combine testing, after introductions and warm-ups and then break into individual drills, before we start our competitive portion of our recruit rankings camps. Colorado has many top recruits that go missed year in and year out, who exceed the caliber of play needed to compete at the next level. This is a opportunity to be added to our recruit rankings and compete up until your classes national signing day.

Our 2020 top 300 football recruits at College Football Today page has buttons that click to each college football recruit position rankings page just like above. We have also began to move our recruit rankings over to Scout Trout Elite LLC and our other networks. These pages update automatically so that we may add recruits to our rankings at anytime. Having observed other media networks, they start to see things the way we do at College Football Today as our players production cannot be denied on and off the field. With way too much complacency setting in earlier in college football recruiting process for top football recruits, the S.T.E.P ratings were developed to make players compete nationally with any who choose to step their game up and compete at the highest level of American football.

TEXAS RECRUIT RANKINGS

Our Texas recruit rankings camp will be held on 4/20/2019, as we have heard back from many facilities in the Houston metro area that are willing to host our Texas recruit rankings camps. We will be announcing the location very soon, as we thank Blinn community college for aiding us in helping with finding the proper facility to host our event for the student-athletes of the South Texas area. We also would like to thank Houston Christian for also helping us with attaining a facility in the Houston metro area for the student-athlets of the Houston Metro area.

2020 CFB recruiting

Cards WBB #1 seed.

The NCAA finally got something right making UofL a #1 seed. No easy task, having to go to Albany and most likely facing UConn a stones-throw from Storrs, but "to be the best, you must win your final six games of the year".

Some thoughts on the NCAA WBB Tournament:

-- ACC got eight teams in.. I was hoping for Virginia Tech being the ninth. SEC seven schools chosen, including Tennessee, which qualifies as a "are you kidding me ?" pick. An obvious NCAA attempt to save Holly-by-golly's job. UCLA curb-stomps them.

-- UK may not get by Princeton, but if they do, NC State will send them back to Lexington.

-- Ah, to be in the Portland bracket. I think it is the easiest to advance from. The Sonja upset special is Miami. I do believe Hof and Cornelius can take McCowan down.in the "Great Eight".

-- Why noon for UofL? A lot of working folks won't be able to make a noon Friday tip at the KFC YUM! Center. Look at the other #1 seeds. Baylor's first game 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Notre Dame got an early Saturday game. Miss. State 9 p.m. Friday night. ESPN hates us.

-- I can see four ACC teams in the final eight. Louisville, Notre Dame, Miami and NC State. Six in the Sweet Sixteen if you add Syracuse and FSU.

-- How big a moron is Charlie BRACKETS? Thanking the NCAA WBB commissioner for making him look good? Hell, you could put that boy in a Lebron James suit, Johnston-Murphy shoes and a Grateful Dead tie and he'd still look like Aaron Slick from Punkin' Creek. Between him and Andy Dandy, I don't know which one is more ridiculous on camera. Let's keelhaul both on the high seas.

-- What other Morris's should Robert Morris bring to play Louisville? I thought of Morris the Cat., Morris Day? Heather Morris? The boys and gals from Morris' Deli? Call for Phillip Morris?

-- Paulie and his trained chimps are holding a NCAA WBB Bracket Challenge over at Cardinal Couple. It's free. They got a prize. (I hope Jack doesn't mind me putting this over here.) Use as directed...

Thank you Jerry Palm

From Jerry Palm's article on how to pick your bracket....found this nugget.

7. No. 1 seeds are a smart bet
This point can serve as an addendum for point No. 3, and while it's one of the mostduh points thus far, it's worth pointing out. No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament since the field expanded in 1985 have won 20 of the 34 champions crowned during that time.
Six of the champions this decade -- Duke in 2010, Kentucky in 2012, Louisville in 2013, Duke in 2015, UNC in 2017 and Villanova in 2018 -- were all 1 seeds. Per statistics from the NCAA, of the 68 teams who have played in the title game since '85, 32 have been 1 seeds.

Hey Zipp

Just to keep from hijacking a post that's actually about sports let's just start a new one where everybody is going to have a good idea of what they're getting into..

Remind the guy who brought the subject up. I'd rather talk about how the new guys are doing. That's my "agenda"...

How much good have you done banging on your negative worn out agenda ? ZERO....

VINCE is still AD, Grissom is still on the BOT, "Little Miss Sunshine" is still the President, Jeff Walz is still here, Coach Mac is still here, and coach MACK has done a hell of a job in his first year....

And Jurich and Ricky are still gone..

The only thing you've done is highjack every thread by bashing anything that half way comes across as good news.... Everybody and I'm mean EVERYBODY on this board knows where you stand. No need to reiterate it into oblivion..

C'mon man.. Get back on the same team as the rest of us, the sports teams, the student athletes, wins and losses. We're all for the the same team here podge..
