I'm really starting to change my thought on whether we hire an established head coach and pay them an absolute ton of money for them to finish out their career here or do we really interview and independently identify the next big coach and give them a huge NIL budget to acquire weapons?

There is no doubt that backing up the brink's truck for Scott Drew would probably produce better results year one, but I do have questions about whether he would be a great fit.
The University is paying JH to conduct independent analysis of these coaches, and I think it is on him to identify a coach that has the personality, the system, the confidence, and the drive to run the program here.
Any labotimized idiot can see that someone like Scott Drew would be pretty successful here and could just throw a ton of money at it, but being able to identify talent is where your value lies as an AD.
Very few of the greatest head coaches in college basketball were established successful coaches before they were hired at their Hall of Fame destinations. One or more of these younger coaches are going to be very successful,the question is which ones?
We know all of these guys can coach, so it comes down to the entangibles of their confidence, drive, and personalities. JH has to determine if they check those boxes.
Some fans will bitch and moan at first if it's not a big name, but if that coach is publicly engaging all summer and works his ass stocking up in the transfer and recruiting portal, the excitement level will be there come November.
