College Football Playoff Rankings & Is College Football Rigged?

College Football Playoff Rankings & Is College Football Rigged?

I keep seeing a hashtag on Twitter that insinuates that College Football is rigged. When you look at the intricacies of this Big 12 Championship contest, you may want whoever is behind the curtain to keep making these magical College Football games occur.

ZACH SMITH TOM HERMAN
In the 247 Sports article titled Zack Smith: Herman wanted to bring Meyer down. Author Jordan James is able to illustrate through a series of Tweets from former Ohio State Coach Zach Smith that paints a very vivid picture of the relationship between Texas and Ohio State in College Football Today.

OHIO STATE VS NORTHWESTERN 2018
When asked how he felt about the upcoming matchup, Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said, "I don't think anyone outside these doors would pick us to win this game. My mom and dad, I guess, would. I'm not even sure if my sisters would. But I don't need them. I just need the 74 guys who will put on the purple and white Saturday." Fitzgerald may be right, the odds are not in his favor. The Wildcats have been wildly inconsistent this season and have had a number of close wins that should have been blowouts such as Rutgers and Illinois.

CFB PLAYOFF RANKINGS 2018
We already previewed the Alabama vs Georgia SEC Championship match-up that will also dictate the CFB Playoff Rankings and what UCF would need to do to climb into one of the four CFB playoff ranking positions.

Satterfield has moved to #1 for me now...

Partially because my original #1 candidate, (after Brohm), Bill Clark, does not even seem to be in the discussion of all of the other names currently being bounced around; Satterfield has separated himself from the pack for me now that I have done some real research on him as HC there at App St. He has put together a very solid program. The *only* question is how well can he recruit in the deep hotbed talent states like FL and AL where UL has had strong ties before.

But the stats I have found on his time as HC of App St has really separated him as a candidate for me from all others. I feel he will be very successful here.

BREAKING: Tyra on Jeff Brohm's decision

Tyra on Jeff Brohm's decision...

"“While Jeff and I had a terrific conversation about the future of the University of Louisville football program and how he could play a role in our success, it was clear that his heart and mind were still with fulfilling his commitment to Purdue. As a Cardinal alumnus, Jeff has accomplished a great deal as a player and as a coach. We wish him the best going forward except when we may meet on the field of play. We will continue our parallel path to determine the next successful leader of our football program. I'm confident in our process and making a final decision in the near term.”

App St vs Penn St

Copied and pasted from another board. This makes too much damn sense

"This was the 20 plus minute version of the highlights with every scoring drive for both teams. Appalachian State was athletic, had a lot of creative play calls, and had a fast, well coached defense. They absolutely should have won that game on the road, which would have been a stunning upset. They went out and played fearlessly, not at all intimidated by the setting. Two years ago, they went to OT against Tennessee and lost. Frankly, Satterfield could VERY easily have won both games. Penn state and UT got crucial breaks at just the right time. Interestingly, he was their QB coach when they won at Michigan 11 years ago. I think this guy knows what he’s doing.

He’s also making like 740 k, with a buyout of maybe 425 k. You could hire him, pay him 2.5 million, pay your coordinators over 1 million each, and still be WAY below what you would have had to pay for brohm in salary/buyout. Is it a flashy hire that the media will ooh and ahh over? No. But I think he really knows his stuff and would be hungry to win."

Mike Norvell

I am a little surprised this guy is not getting a harder look. He has done a good job at Memphis. The couple of times I watched MSU play over the last few years I have really been impressed with their offense. I watched them play the University of Houston the week after UH kicked our ass in 2016 and UH could not stop their offense and Memphis beat them.

Last year I watched them in the CUSA Championship game against the undefeated UCF team and UCF had to score a TD with less than a minute to go to beat them. And again, they looked like a very good football team.

The only thing that I don't like is it appears he is a protégé of Todd Graham who is a real scumbag.

Louisville’s Position in College Landscape is Special

Despite yesterday’s events with Brohm, the University and city has now proven to be in a unique spot, built for success no matter what obstacles in the college landscape. We will win, and we will win big.

We have such a unique situation.... We are a city with a Power 5 college team and the offerings and quality of life normally found in pro sports towns. All coaching candidates and more importantly - recruits - will find benifits at U of L, they can’t find anywhere else:

Power 5 competition and exposure.
Top 50 national city in quality of life.
Large fan base focused on college team.
Top facilities.

These are not going away and these are unique. It’s why Walz and McDonnell have grown national powers out of ashes in the last decade, and it’s why Mack is doing amazing things immediately on the court and the recruiting trail in the face of real obstacles.

Football will succeed and our sports program will remain strong across the board even with temporary hiccups. We have a particular set of skills. We will find you and we will kill you. Go Cards!!

One possible coach eliminated from contention? What I'm hearing...

I spoke with a source Thursday afternoon that told me Louisville's next coach is "100% not Neal Brown". Obviously a lot of names have been circling since Brohm turned down the job and this at least gives us the ability to cross one off the list.

As always, I'll keep you all updated on what I'm hearing...

Coaching dominates the discussions but...

what will the new guy have to work with?

We just finished an incredibly stunning 2-10 season. Furthermore, in our 10 losses, our average losing margin was 31.5 points. Against FBS competition we were 106th in total offense and 127th in total defense. For what little it is worth back in August I thought a 7 win season was likely but either a 6 or 8 win season was possible. I missed by just a little bit.

The point here is I really thought we were well beyond what just happened. This was just a horrible (and unexplainable) year. You have to go back to 1997 to find anything that bad. That was 22 years ago. In those 22 seasons our previous worst performances were 4 and 5 win seasons in 2009 and 2008.

Notwithstanding flat out luck, I think Performance is the product of Coaching X Talent. Our performance across the board this year was so bad I cannot "allocate problems" between coaching and talent. We'll be putting in a brand new staff for 2019 but how much talent is left? What will they have to work with?

FWIW, our last 4 Rivals recruiting ranking were between 29th and 36th, a decent #33 average. But it looks like we will shoot a blank with the 2019 recruiting class.

Peace

ADDENDUM: Per UK Game Day Notes we return 17 of 22 two deep on offense and 18 of 22 on defense. Excluding what I believe are 3 transfers/JCs that is a total 32 returnees from 4 recruiting classes ranked #29-#36. Hardly anything iffy-er than recruiting rankings but that is basically a "top 25%" recruiting rate.

Satterfield

From Howie's reporting and stuff on Twitter....(I know I know)...is apparently our top candidate we are pursuing. The more I read and hear about him the better I like him. Took Penn State into OT. Gets his kids to play hard. Organized and tough on both sides of the ball. Georgia Tech has made Clemson OC their top guy.

Easy Decision...

Brohm's decision wasnt that hard I'd say. Why woukd anyone want to go coach in our side of the conference when 99 times out of 100 you're getting beat by Clemson and oh yea you have FSU that coukd get back to their old ways. Not worth it when he is in his side of a conference with just 1 team that has any history and it's not recent like Clemson and FSU. Think about it like this, in our state every high school volleyball team is playing for 2nd outside of a few private schools in Louisville and NKY. No public school has ever made the finals I believe. So why would any coach want to coach in lets say Paducah thinking they have a real shot at a state championship? This is the same thinking Brohm applied. Thays why we will have to find an up and comer.
GO CARDS!!!
