Tough job

In an earlier post and thread started by Jack it was, and is, discussed as to how difficult Vince’s job is with this pick of a new head coach. And I agree, with Jeff’s refusal of our position, Vince’s job got tougher. But I’ll tell you this, the new coach has a bunch of difficult decisions to make. How many of the 9 remaining commits does he keep. And the real difficulty is how many of the existing roster does he keep and how many does he tell to move on down the road with transfers. That normally happens but not to the extent of this situation. I don’t envy this guy’s job but he’ll have my support because I’m a UofL fan first. And it’s
just that simple and this is the main reason that I’m in favor of Satterfield at this point. I’m not saying that there is no other we should choose but I am saying he sure seems like a guy that is ready for a difficult situation. And, folks, that is exactly what we have.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

Eric Crawford Identified another candidate ... Notre Dame OC, Chip Long

Chip Long, OC at Notre Dame, may be on the radar now.

He was an Offensive Graduate Assistant at U of L in 2006-07.

My note of caution with coordinator candidates

I have two concerns with hiring a coordinator from a huge program.

First, their recruiting chops. It’s one thing to successfully recruit a kid to Notre Dame or Georgia or Ohio State. It’s another to recruit them to Louisville. Charlie did it, but he had loooooong relationships with high school coaches in hot beds to rely on.

Second, knowing they can manage the role of head coach and all that comes with it. Charlie struggled with parts of it, but on the whole was ok. This time though, given the serious dysfunction that exists on our team, this is even more critical in my mind.

Why people are so hurt over this..and will be for a while

Jeff led Louisville and truthfully the whole community on for the last two weeks. If he truly did not want the job AND he was happy at Purdue, he should have politely told Louisville officials "no" way back down the road. Jeff created this drama by acting interested, not communicating with people, and leading over a million plus people on.

Jeff should not have done this to his alma mater. He played Louisville against Purdue because he wanted money. Jeff got greedy is the reality of the situation. Coaches do this, but to do it to your alma mater, nah, that stinks.

Another name to read up on...

Louisville does seem to be focused on head coaches, but there are some other candidates who have caught Tyra's eye.

Just a newer name to consider just in case...

Georgia DC Mel Tucker

LINK: https://georgiadogs.com/staff.aspx?staff=400

Mel Tucker, assistant head coach and defensive backs coach at the University of Alabama and former NFL defensive coordinator, was named UGA defensive coordinator and secondary coach on January 12, 2016.

Tucker was part of a 2017 staff that led the Bulldogs to a record-tying 13 victories, first SEC championship since 2005, first appearance in the College Football Playoff, first appearance (and victory over Oklahoma) in the Rose Bowl CFP semi-final game, and first appearance in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Georgia’s defense finished second in the SEC and 6thnationally in Scoring Defense (16.4 ppg), 2nd in the SEC and 6th nationally in Total Defense (294.9 ypg), and 2nd in the SEC in Rushing Defense.

In his first year at UGA, Tucker guided a Bulldog defense that ranked among the nation’s top 20 units in the following categories: total defense, passing defense, turnovers gained, and first down defense.

Tucker joined Nick Saban's staff at Michigan State as a graduate assistant in 1997. After two years there, he went to work as a defensive backs coach at Miami (Ohio) for one season in 1999. In 2000, Tucker returned to work with Saban at LSU for one season before going to Ohio State for a four-year stint (2001-04). The Buckeyes went 14-0 in 2002 and won the BCS National Championship. Tucker was elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2004.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Tucker attended Cleveland Heights High School where he was a football standout and earned a scholarship to Wisconsin. He was a four-year letterman at defensive back for the Badgers and graduated in 1995.

Tucker's wife, JoEllyn, earned her undergraduate degree at Illinois and her law degree from Rutgers. The couple has two sons: Joseph (15) and Christian (13).

He didn't want it, and said so without saying it

It wasn't about the money? It was only about the money!! He didn't want the job, he only wanted the perception that he would want the job to gain leverage in the corn fields.

He came as a player to build this thing into places it had never been before, Brian did the same. So, when given the chance to take the ultimate responsibility to continue what you and your family had accomplished you balk? Turning your back on something everyone in your family had a part in through the years for a place he hasn't been at for 23 months.....just STFU!

Every coach faces the same situation every time they consider a job change.

At least we can move on, and scratch the Brohm name off the list permanently. Thanks for the past, but your seat at the table isn't available any longer.

Season ticket holder since 1985, so spare me your spin from the other side of the table.

BREAKING: Here is Brohm's statement to Yahoo:

Here is Brohm's statement to Yahoo:

“This has been a very difficult and emotional decision for me and my family. We are extremely happy at Purdue and thankful for the opportunity to lead this program. After intense and thorough discussion, I believe it is important to finish the building process we have begun and honor the commitment I made to our football program, players, and recruits. While going home was very appealing and meaningful to me, the timing was not ideal. I believe that remaining at Purdue is the right thing to do, and I am excited for the challenges ahead. I want to thank the University of Louisville and Vince Tyra for reaching out and expressing their interest in me. As a former Cardinal player and coach, I want nothing but the best for the University of Louisville. Under the leadership of President Neeli Bendapudi and Vince Tyra, the future of the university is in great hands. I also want to thank all Cardinal fans for their support over the years.”

NFL Coach

Dave Toub is the 56 year old assistant head coach to Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs with college and NFL coaching experience. He is a hot candidate for one of the upcoming NFL hirings. UL should see if he might be interested. You don't get to be Reid's top assistant without being knowledgeable. This hire would attract the attention of recruits.

COLORADO FOOTBALL COACHING RUMORS

Leading Rumored Colorado Football Coaching Candidate Jim Leavitt via ralphiereport.com
Cumulative GPA: 2.65
Leavitt seems like a decent hire if Colorado wants an established name who could inject energy into the program, but he falls flat in other areas of the game, especially recruiting and personality. This would be a medium-floor, low-ceiling move that wouldn’t push Colorado past the mediocrity Rick George abhors. CU should aim for a younger guy with more potential.

Season Ticket Holders Question

The leading candidate does NOT excite me 1 bit. I'll still be a diehard fan w/o a doubt, but spending the amount of money for season tickets like I have to watch a coach that I have never heard of, really is pushing it to the point that I'll watch the games on my couch and/or at BWW. I wonder if the leading candidate (Satterfield) makes other season ticket holders rethink about renewing.

I am really getting interested in Satterfield....

The more I look at the stats of App State; not the W-L's but the overall different stats from this year and previous years, the more I am really liking what I am seeing there under his direction.

While Satterfield is know much more for his offensive schemes: VERY quietly, App State has developed a perennial top 10 defense year over year. Yes, App State does not play a lot of powerhouse schools. But App State, (statistically speaking), is the best non-P5 defense of any of the non-P5 schools. That is very interesting to me. Their run defense this year has not been "great" but their pass D has been.

So I am becoming much more interested in Satterfield the more I dig into the "numbers" of college football in relation to App State.
