Hoops trial#2

Judge denies the use of wiretaps of Miller and Wade and their testimony WOW !. U of L better not whatsoever cooperate when they bring that crap. U of L's legal team better use this as their basis with Johnson and Fair.

Question of whether Arizona men's coach Sean Miller paid his players is "irrelevant" to bribery charges against former hoops consultants Christian Dawkins and Merl Code, NYC federal judge says

Coach McDonnell has to be mad

His team did not come to play early against Alabama A&M today. In two innings the Cards have been picked off 2nd, taken two strike pitches down the middle for strikeouts twice. Pitcher Bobby Miller walked a guy on 5 pitches who is 5 for 37 on the season. He's also thrown a wild pitch and there's also been a passed ball. The 2nd basemen dropped a tag out that would have been an out and Miller was slow to cover 1st base when the ball was hit to Wyatt who also bobbled the grounder.

Its 3 to 0 A&M after 2 innings .

It is as bad as the Cards have played after two innings all year. I can't believe we will lose this game but this was what I was concerned about after that 32-1 game.

Bad habits form quickly on a baseball team and sometimes it takes awhile to get out of them. Hopefully this ridiculous series this weekend doesn't have many lasting effects.

Quick update from around the football complex

**The football team recently completed max-outs, which saw a ton of players hit personal records on a number of lifts. The team has 3 weeks off before they hit the ground running for summer workouts and camp.

**They are required to go to the facility and sign in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is something new that was installed under Satterfield that will help the players and staff develop a family like relationship. Satterfield's hope is that the players look forward to coming around, which was not the case under the previous staff.

**I’ve been told again recently from a source inside the program that the staff is not worried in the slightest about the transfers. When I say I was reassured of this, I was reassured. I wish you all could have heard it first-hand, but you'll have to trust me on this.

**Robert Hicks is 100 percent back in the fold and there is no awkwardness between he and the staff. There has been some talk that he would move back to linebacker. I can't confirm that, but he is back with the team and ready to roll.

Gil Sturtzel-RIP

"He was born Christmas Day 1936 in Louisville, KY. He was a graduate and football Hall of Famer of both St. X and the University of Louisville. Gil was also Captain of the U of L 1957 Sun Bowl Team and former president of the University of Louisville L-Club, and Central Cardinal Club. Gil retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance after 30 years of service."

Coach Sturtzel was a Cardinal all the way. He also coached the football team and was part of the 'Thursday Morning Group' that met every Thursday morning for breakfast at Wagners that included the Sun Bowl team and the NIT champions in 1956. Included such greats as Lenny Lyles and Charley Tyra.

Obviously there is no . . . .

Mercy rule in college baseball. The Cards won 32-1 over Alabama A&M this evening and did everything in their power to NOT run up the score. Everything was working right tonight for the Cards and the brightest moment of the evening was that our rookie, freshman 3rd baseman (Binallas,sp) hit for the cycle (single, double, triple and a home run). That’s the first time since back in 1998 that a UofL player did that.

NCAA Finally Gets Something Right

A proposal to require a graduate transfer to count against a team's scholarship total for two years in football and basketball has been rejected by the NCAA.

The Division I Council on Friday voted down a proposal that could have tapped the brakes on the de facto free agency created by a rule originally intended to give athletes more freedom to pursue graduate degrees.

NCAA rules require football and basketball players to sit out a season after transferring, but those who complete a degree are permitted to transfer and play immediately. The proposed change would have locked schools into a two-year scholarship commitment regardless of how much eligibility a grad transfer had remaining.

3 Walk Ons Given Full Rides Tonight

This video gives me chills. Jack Fagot, Maurice Burkley, and Marshon Ford all awarded scholarships. “Everything is earned in this program”. Fagot plays safety, Burkley plays running back and Ford plays TE. FWIW, I’ve been told Marshon Ford is the best TE on the roster and is a viable option at the position.

App St. vs Tennessee 2016

Was bored af so I went on YouTube to watch this game. I was really impressed most with the offense. The option style offense they run is crazy. This isn’t your Lamar type read option this option kept Tennessee off balance and quite frankly they couldn’t stop App States 5’10 190 lb running back. You could see a obvious advantage in talent with UT but they way App used their speed it evens out that size/talent advantage. They weren’t scared to run the end around which I could see Satt utilizing Tutu with. Another thing I saw was AMAZING special teams play, I’ve seen that in every App game I’ve watched. Long story short Louisville doesn’t really have the talent this year, but I believe they have as much if not more talent as that 2016 App team. If they can play the way that team played I will be happy win or lose. For all the people doubting Satterfield take a look at this game or the game last year vs PSU. They were one kick away from beating PSU last year, if that kick goes, Scott Satterfield would’ve been the hottest name in coaching going into last offseason, though it didn’t that doesn’t change the fact that his system WORKS! Great play calling and extremely fun to watch. PEACE

Jack’s front page story on AD Tyra

is spot on. No one is perfect and that applies to all of us including AD Tyra. He has gotten far more right than most of us thought he would. Our athletic department is going in the right direction and most of us feared that it wouldn’t after the abrupt and wrong headed firing of Tom Jurich. His ability to maintain his direction even with David Grissom still in charge of the BOT is further statement to his loyalty to UofL and our excellence.
