Fraude Still at it

I don’t need for a journalist who covers my team to be a fan, but I don’t think it’s much to ask for them to be fair. This guy continually $hits on Louisville. The message here seems to be that we shouldn’t swing for the fences. Little ole Louisville should go for an up and comer right out of the gate. Either May or Schertz May end up being great, but screw you Fraude.

To: Eaves, Maybin, Beard et al

First of all…screw all of you!!! You put your bias to advocate for this man ahead of your pride in UL basketball, your self respect and your credibility. You burned bridges, you told us all that we didn’t know squat about basketball and didn’t know what we were looking at.

Maybin, you announced, after Payne was hired that your radio career had a finite timeline. You said when KP was no longer the coach then your show would end. Go back and look it up if you don’t remember. So…are you a man of your word? Will you be gone after KP is let go? Will you ever apologize to your listeners that you hung up on because they disagreed with you, you know…the ones that didn’t bow down to your superior basketball knowledge even when all evidence pointed to the fact that you were either wrong, or lying. Go away Maybin… you have no credibility left.

Eaves…you’re a bully. Using your platform to hold a gun to the administration’s head to guilt them into an extremely poor hire is a chickenshit thing to do. Have you ever apologized to the fan base for your BS?

Beard, if you hate the University as much as you seem to, then go…let us never hear from you again.

To all of you, sit down and STFU!!! You had your say and your way and it resulted in the worst era of UL basketball in its storied history. Sit this one out. Know one wants to hear from you or gives a flying f$&k what you think!!!

Nolan Smith Was Source Of Leak

But Smith was sensitive to criticism, had some contentious social media interactions with fans, and before the 2023-24 season interviewed with a G-League team, the Capital City GoGo.

When athletics leadership concluded that Smith had been the source of a leak that resulted in national media reports saying Payne would be fired in December and Smith elevated to the head coaching job, Payne was advised to take the matter up with Smith.

Smith remained on the staff, and what measures Payne may have taken were not known. Similarly, after his first season, Payne declined to shake up his staff after finishing 4-28, even when advised to by Hierd.

Huntley-Hatfield

BHH on Payne: "He's another true father to me. . . . I feel like he's developed me into something that I didn't see. I was caught up in trying to play a certain way. . . . He's opened up a new part of my game. ... He's everything to me."

Asked if he'd like to go another season with Payne: "Of course."Negativity: "It did affect me a little bit when I heard fans boo us. . . . All that was what it was. Everybody's going to have an opinion. We just tried to focus on each other and focus on our team."

Payne NIL Money

Payne had solid financial backing. Louisville’s collective, the 502Circle, stood ready to help fund any efforts Payne wished to make. But Payne preferred to work through his own group of donors. The 2024 team, a source close to the program told WDRB, was making $1.2 million in NIL money.

But at least six figures in available NIL funding from 502Circle went unused, and at least one major donor pulled back funds that were not appropriated by the program.

Can we make this the "official" rumor/rumblings/what I'm hearing thread?

This way regular schmuck posters like me won't have to search through multiple threads for posts from @Ty Spalding or @Midnite Rambler or any of the other handful of posters that seem to have legit information.

I'm not saying only post when you hear something, I'm just saying if you do hear something please just post it here. lol

BREAKING: Official Word: Payne Fired - Heird Press Conference 3PM

OFFICIAL | Kenny Payne has been fired as Louisville basketball coach.

Josh Heird: ""Kenny has given a great deal to this university over a span of nearly 40 years, and he will always be a valued member of our Louisville family," Heird said. "When we brought Kenny home in 2022, no one had a stronger belief than me in his potential success, but it's become clear that a change is needed to help this program achieve what is expected and attainable. While it is always difficult to make a coaching transition, this is the right one for our program. On behalf of myself and everyone involved with our men's basketball program, I want to thank Kenny for his dedication to UofL. I wish him and his family the very best in their future."

ESPN Article on our Coaching Search

It’s Borzello, but it’s good to see where they see our search. I won’t post the full thing but here’s where they rate our candidates

Dream Names-
A. Billy Donovan with the Bulls in a playoff chase, so not happening

B. Scott Drew said he’s shown no signs of wanting to leave Waco.

Potential Names-
Dusty May
Mick Cronin
Nate Oats
TJ Otzelberger
Jamie Dixon
Lamont Paris
Josh Shertz
Pat Kelsey
Eric Musselman
Mark Pope (hard no!)
Sean Miller
Jerome Tang
Kyle Smith
Chris Collins
Nico Medved
Darian Devries

Basically he just threw out a list of all possible options, but he had Dusty May at the top.

Says Cronin’s buyout doesn’t make him a viable option.

Of note
Oats Buyout is $10 million
Tang’s buyout is $6 million
Otzelberger has $17 million left on his deal

Established v. Rising Star

I'm really starting to change my thought on whether we hire an established head coach and pay them an absolute ton of money for them to finish out their career here or do we really interview and independently identify the next big coach and give them a huge NIL budget to acquire weapons?

Which business plan is going to produce the best results over the next ten years?

There is no doubt that backing up the brink's truck for Scott Drew would probably produce better results year one, but I do have questions about whether he would be a great fit.

The University is paying JH to conduct independent analysis of these coaches, and I think it is on him to identify a coach that has the personality, the system, the confidence, and the drive to run the program here.

Any labotimized idiot can see that someone like Scott Drew would be pretty successful here and could just throw a ton of money at it, but being able to identify talent is where your value lies as an AD.

Very few of the greatest head coaches in college basketball were established successful coaches before they were hired at their Hall of Fame destinations. One or more of these younger coaches are going to be very successful, the question is which ones?

We know all of these guys can coach, so it comes down to the entangibles of their confidence, drive, and personalities. JH has to determine if they check those boxes.

Some fans will bitch and moan at first if it's not a big name, but if that coach is publicly engaging all summer and works his ass stocking up in the transfer and recruiting portal, the excitement level will be there come November.
