ESPN says Cards have work to do

I have been saying over and over how there's a bias in the media, so much so some Cards fans here got annoyed at me, while some even defended or denied the obvious bias. Well, here is a ESPN story that implies Louisville has work to do and is essentially on the bubble.

" The Enigma: Louisville. Why don’t the Cardinals boast a better tournament probability in the ESPN Analytics forecast? A big part of it has to do with a gap between Louisville’s perceived quality in BPI (41st) versus other ratings; it ranks 29th in Ken Pomeroy’s system and 30th in Bart Torvik’s, by comparison. This filters into the projected schedule going forward, where Louisville faces both SMU and Pitt one more time apiece, along with games against a number of the nonzero tourney probability teams listed below as well. And the robustness of Louisville’s tournament bid makes a big difference to the ACC bubble as a whole, because it determines where the cut line is to get in (and maybe even whether the conference can exceed five bids).

Locks: Duke (100%)

Should Be In: North Carolina (88%), Clemson (83%), Pitt (70%)

Work to Do: SMU (57%), Louisville (49) "

So there you go. A 7 loss UNC should be in, and Pitt on a 4 game losing streak should be in. Louisville has defeated all four teams that are not locks but they have work to do.

There's no way a true editor would have approved such a ridiculous assertion about ACC teams and the NCAA tournament unless it was on purpose. ESPN went into that piece wanting to downplay Louisville's results.

It was released before the SMU game so one wonders if ESPN now considers Louisville a "should be in" team after throttling the Mustangs on their own court?

There is a bias against Louisville basketball from not all, but many media pundits. Who thinks the Cards will move up much after the SMU win?

What, #23, maybe 22?

Louisville should be around 15 to 17. They have won 9 games in a row, 7 by double figures, and 5 on the road. They just had two players in the same game, set all time single game records in Louisville hoops history.

They're playing like one of the best teams in the country, with a depleted roster due to injuries. I just don't know what else can be said to convince people there's a bias. What else could it be?

Cards Back In the Top 25

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the first time in over three years, the Louisville men's basketball program is at least getting mentioned in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

The Cardinals (12-5, 5-1 ACC) garnered 17 points in week 11 of the AP Top 25 to jump into the "others receiving votes" section, earning a de facto ranking of No. 30. It's Louisville's first time receiving votes in the AP Poll since getting two points in the 2021-22 Week Four poll.

Coach of the year?

It's late January and the college basketball season is a little over half over. February starts the home stretch on the way to conference championships and March madness, as well as recognition for best of awards.

The coach of the year talk is starting to get more attention by several different pundits, and Louisville's Pat Kelsey is a obvious candidate, even though he's not in the top 3 on some lists.

Most have Bruce Pearl of Auburn or Jon Schyer at Duke as COY. I find that curious since both teams were preseason top 5 teams and have sure fire NBA stars on the roster.

As for the overachiever teams and their coaches, Michigan, West Virginia and Vanderbilt's coaches all are above Kelsey by most pundits. For some reason, the hoops experts don't want to include Louisville whether it's team rankings or in this case, it's head coaches chances for COY.

As of today how could it be anyone else but PK? Vandy's coach is the only other coach that in my opinion should be considered the mid season coach of the year. Their back to back wins over Alabama and UK is very impressive.

However, he didn't take over a sinking program that was 12 and 52 the past two seasons and was on the verge of becoming the biggest joke in major conference basketball. No one, not even the most ardent and loyal Louisville fan expected what we have seen so far.

Nine game winning streak and counting, despite losing it's 2nd best player and back up PG to season ending injuries. Winning by double digits in 7 of those 9 wins during the streak and looking like a #1 seed surely wasn't something anyone even fantasized about.

Pat Kelsey should be on top of any mid-season COY lists. What he has accomplished so far can be construed as miraculous. No other coach had to do what he had to do. But, this is UofL we're talking about and the inclination to pass them over is still prevalent, even when it's obvious they shouldn't be.

One dude I saw said the ACC was so down, that will hurt Kelsey's chances, but apparently that doesn't apply to Jon Schyer of Duke. I agree the COY is usually from a top team with just a couple losses, but several times coaches have won the award for surprising results not expected before the season.

How could there be a more surprising result than Louisville and it's first year coach Pat Kelsey?

at SMU will take huge effort

They put up 117 today

They are bubble team, fighting to get in.

We will likely be ranked-so they will be even more hyped

They have stumbled a couple of times, but are super athletic and pretty well-coached(former Card Matt Cross is with them)

Right where we want to be. Guarantee you I trust this bunch to be ready. Love this team.

Big a BIG TIME road win

Let's freakin go!!
