Rick Pitino to attend Kentucky Football game

Seeing that he's going to be there on Saturday, so he'll likely be at their Midnight Madness event. I'm guessing this is finally the "He's dead to us" moment.

Credit to him for his hatred and trolling of Calipari. I think a big part of it is simply he wants to have ownership of the program over Calipari and rub it in his face that he got run off too, Italian feud. I'm not naive too, a part of it is his way to stick it to the Louisville admin which none of them fired him, but like Bobby Knight he'll blame them forever.

The big reason I believe it is simply the Stoops aspect. Stoops and Calipari hated each other, notice Rick really loves promoting Mark Stoops? That's kind of where this started.

I do think his hate for Kentucky wasn't that bad before Cal arrived, because he knew he was better than them and Tubby was his former assistant. He knew a lot of the people and he was never fired. But once Cal came and their hype machine got larger and it coincided with his extortion trial where their fans just got ugly. But I think he always blamed a lot of that on Calipari. Calipari did something weird for Rick, because it seemed like Cal gave him new energy overall. But something about coaching against him tightened him up. He's an arrogant man and he loved being the best coach in the state, he loved that UK fans wanted him there and had to watch him coach their rival. He loved being the man and pushing out Denny and making it his own program. Cal arriving with his big personality just bothered him, because he thought he needed to be the only big man in the state. Honestly, Calipari really seemed to fall off when Rick left too. Those 2 just hated each other.

And now? Going to the game feeds his ego. He can own Calipari and have the fans cheer him again as he's the mentor of their current coach. And for us, although mad at him, he's still the elephant in the room and the living legend of UofL basketball that looms over the program like Knight did for IU for many years. Pat Kelsey is a nice guy, but they hired him over his son so he can add it to his list of grievances. And all of that while coaching at MSG for a really good program that could make noise. His ego is so large right now. This is his victory lap.

But I think with everything that's happened, I think this will be the last straw for most fans. I think now that the only thing that can bring him back will be in 9 years in 2033 for the 20 year 2013 reunion.

Unsung heroes

Not sure how unsung they are but two Cards were key to winning this game.

Caullin Lacy and Jamari Johnson. Twice Lacy got the needed yards after the catch to secure a 1st down on that last scoring drive, and Johnson doing it once plus catching the TD pass.

Both gave extreme effort that without it, the Cards would have lost.

Brohm needs to get JJ more touches. He's such a strong weapon at TE.

NCAA eliminating National Letter of Intent:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ot...1&cvid=e7ac05da1a0f499a8e42607ffe9a859f&ei=11

Historic changes are coming to college sports. The NCAA Division I Council approved Wednesday to eliminate the National Letter of Intent program.

The changes come as the NCAA undergoes its most seismic changes to date. The House v. NCAAsettlement would permit schools to pay athletes more than $20 million annually, spurring the NCAA and its leaders to rethink their amateurism rules.

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) program started in 1964 and is the binding agreement signed by recruits for generations. Instead, financial aid and scholarship agreements are expected to be used. The entire NLI will not be ditched, however, as the recruiting rules around the program will still be commonplace. When athletes enter the transfer portal and move schools, most just sign an athletics aid agreement.

For years, the NLI has been under the purview of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), which pushed for the change in recent months. The National Letter of Intent will not exist but similar written aid offers are not going away.

The CCA met in September to discuss the proposal of eliminating the National Letter of Intent. Previously, when signing an NLI, an athlete agreed to attend an institution full-time for a year. NLI penalties changed last year, no longer forcing athletes to sit a semester if they signed a request for release after a coaching change.

While the House v. NCAA settlement still faces a months-long process to be approved, a new binding document between a school and athlete will need to be created with the introduction of revenue sharing which spurred the elimination of the NLI.

Next for the NCAA D-I Committee could be the evaluation of the recruiting calendar, specifically with the NLI program going away. College football’s early signing period was moved up this year from mid-December to the week before conference championship games. This year’s early signing day is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Football thoughts - Re-Watched the SMU Game

Being self-employed means, I can watch YOUTUBE replays when I have a light day! So I watched the games and here are my thoughts

I watched the game again.

1. I'm not as worried about our offense long-term, Brooks might be the best wideout I've seen as a Cardinal. I'll put him above Devante Parker and that's saying something. There was an early TD he dove for and just dropped and one on the last drive that would've tied the game. He's a special player. I will say, if Brooks was injured then idk if we'd have a winning record. That's where the Devante comparison comes, he can just change a game with one play. We need to appreciate him.

2. We are a little too deep ball reliant, seems like Shough isn't as comfortable with the check downs and tight-ends early on. Turner's injury has changed the direction of things. Jeff just seems like he's a bit off with everyone, which is something that happens when you bring in an entirely new group. You can teach them plays, but the guys have to know each other too in terms of where the like the ball and where others will be.

3. The OL is what it is at this point, I think longterm I'd like to see it build more with multi-year pieces. I think it will get better, but it's a bad time for struggles during this tough stretch. Would've been great for us to have played SMU week 3 and had the bye week this week before the Miami and Clemson stretch.

4. I'm not sure about the defense. Where I compared Brooks to Devante, I compare Quincy Riley to Jaire Alexander in terms of what we're missing with him out. Remember how bad the defense was when we didn't have Jaire, but then it all turned around the second he returned in 2017? I just look at the group as a lot of pieces, but I don't see anything special.

5. Ashton has really disappointed me, but teams saw his film from the last 2 years and now they will not overlook him. I'll point this out
-2023 games 2-10 (9 games) he had 13 Tackles for a loss, 10 sacks
-2023 last 4 games he only had 1.5 tackles for loss, had none against Miami, FSU, and USC, 1 sack against Kentucky
-2024 in 5 games this year, he only has 1.5 tackles and 1 sack for loss and they all came against Austin Peay

In his last 9 games only 3 tackles for a loss (2 sacks) compared to 13 (10 sacks) in the 9 games before it, and only 1.5 (1 sack) in his last 8 games against Power 4 competition, which Kentucky has a terrible offensive line is who he got them against. That is a concerning trend for Ashton.

6. We assumed we had the best pass rusher and corner in the ACC, 2 game changers. But Quincy has been hurt and Ashton hasn't been playing well. We do not have a single Interception or Sack from either of those guys against a Power Conference opponent this year. Now Quincy is hurt, that's not his fault. But that's a big issues when your 2 game changers aren't changing the game. The one game-changing play was Quincy's forced fumble against Georgia Tech, and guess what??? That won us the game.

I think this team is a bit better than last, but last year we had a pretty light start to the year. We had some good luck too, because we easily could have lost to GT, IU, & NC State and would've been 2-3 or 3-2 going into that ND game. This year we didn't have the benefit of playing some lighter teams, we got Notre Dame earlier and then SMU a week later. We also have had injuries to Quincy, Turner, and Lacy too, so the injury bug didn't go our way. Last year's team having the line and run game to lean on was an easier transition, but this year we're still developing that identity.

I feel better about things. We can go out and beat the crap out of Virginia and get some momentum. Then come home healthier and ready to prove something against a Miami team that isn't as good as we thought. Then take it to BC and go into Clemson with nothing to lose. IDK what will happen, but I'm not as down. But this is a key stretch and this is a key year. I don't think next year the team will have this combo of proven talent and incoming talent, so we need to maximize it. It's been sloppy, that's on the staff. Get it fixed or he faces the same heat Satt did, that's only fair.

LETS GO CARDS!

Don’t tell me officiating doesn’t make a difference

Rewatching the game right now and the unnecessary roughness call with the game tied at 7 was critical to the outcome.

Absolutely horrendous call by the referee (who by the way) are never held accountable for the damage they do to a game. And before anyone starts crying, these officials are supposed to be professionals at their job and understand the game completely. It would have been 3rd down and 11 at the Louisville 44. And before you say that SMU would have gotten the 1st down (because frustration makes for ill advised comments) it may have ended up in a punt or long field goal attempt instead of a touchdown.

The 3rd down play for Louisville that led to a Travelstead field goal, SMU had 6 blitzing to Louisville’s 5 O-Linemen. Shough was hurried on the throw but had a TE open sitting down in the middle where the LB’s had vacated and had a wide open touchdown down the right sideline but tried to force it into ABH on the out pattern.

I’ll continue to post as I continue to rewatch the game.

ACC officials being called out

Joe Klatt sports commentator is calling out the ACC Conference for trying to dictate what ACC teams make it to the playoffs. He said they are doing it through their referees and it has become obvious. I am glad somebody else other than fans who are griping about this. Someone who has a platform who people are listening to might help correct the problem.

Week 7 ACC PIC UM for bragging rights....still time to get pics in folks!

Six teams have a bye week. FSU finally won't lose a game this week but bye is pretty tough! ;)

BC - bye

Cal
@ Pitt - If Cal comes to play and seeks revenge for the Cane debacle Pitt may go down. Upset pic of the week for me.

CU @ WF - Fake Worrest can not pull back to back upsets and the Tigers have found their eye

Duke - bye

FSU - bye - can they hold on and not lose this one too?

GT @ UNC - Toss up game of the week but the Wreck keep on srecking other teams season and Heels are bad

Cards @ UVA - Cards seem to struggle vs Cavs...last time I went there for the game the Cavs took Cards down... sad repeat of this

Miami - bye - refs get a well deserved vacation and save the flags

*Cuse @ NC St - Tiebreaker...another toss up game....but Cuses confidence is high and offense is too much for the Pack - 34-24

SMU - bye

Stfd @ ND - an I don't care game here but ND needs to win to stay in the PO hunt and they will easily in a blow out....have too

VT - bye

Fun game to watch for me is the battle of the SEC titan teams Vandy and the Mildcats. Will it be an upset if'n Vandy wins 2 weeks in a row??? What say you for this bonus game? I take the Commodores in this one. Just a feeling, ask Bama fans.

Vandy @ UK

'25 DB Josh Johnson Decommits

https://www.si.com/college/louisville/football/josh-johnson-decommits

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - One of the Louisville football program's Class of 2025 commitments is instead opting to go somewhere else.

Josh Johnson, a cornerback/safety hailing from Ironton (Oh.) HS, announced Wednesday that he would be backing off of his verbal pledge to the Cardinals.

Johnson is now the third 2025 prospect to decommit from Louisville. Westerville (Oh.) North offensive lineman Jake Cook and Hammond (Ind.) Morton Senior wide receiver LeBron Hill both did so over the summer.

Johnson had been a longtime target of Louisville, being extended a scholarship offer by the Cardinals in mid-January. After that, Louisville's recruitment of him after that took off. He took an unofficial visit soon after being offered, then took an official visit in early June before committing on June 14.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound defensive back ranks as high as the No. 17 prospect in the state of Ohio and the 41 corner in the nation, according to On3. The 247Sports Composite tabs him as the No. 929 prospect in the 2025 cycle.

Taking reps primarily at cornerback but also at safety for Ironton, Johnson put together a very productive junior campaign. In 12 games tracked by MaxPreps, he logged 64 tackles, 7.0 for loss, four interceptions, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Four game into his senior season, Johnson has logged 27 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception.

Following Johnson's decommitment, Louisville is down to a 12-man class in the 2025 cycle.
