BASKETBALL Louisville @ Boston College

Like Georgia Tech (who was 9-12 before our game Saturday), BC is yet another team hovering on the dark side of .500 for the season at 10-11. Even more important for BC is that their conference record, 2-8, is tied for 16th. They are a half game behind Virginia (3-8) for the last spot in the ACC tournament field, and desperately need a win against us this Wednesday.

Tech’s win on Saturday boosted their conference record to 4-7 off that bubble and into a 4-way tie for 11th.

LOUISVILLE AT BOSTON COLLEGE GAME THREAD- 7PM ACCN

Hopefully it was just a blip on the radar. What concerns me is the last 4 minutes in the WF game. It appears to have continued into the GT game. Hopefully they worked on stopping the pick and roll, although they’ve handled it in the past. GT was more aggressive and we didn’t handle it well.
In my humble opinion, people are putting too much in the end of the WF game and the GT game. They were totally different.

Against WF, the Cards simply stopped with the game plan up by 28 points. They just launched 3's and ran clock. On defense they backed off and let WF shoot. This is the only alternative with such a big lead when the bench is so thin.

Against GT, they took control early and had a 11 point lead at halftime. The end of the WF game didn't have any effect. What did have effect was inevitable and that was the winning streak. Sooner or later a team was going to punch the Cards in the gut and beat them.

We didn't think it would be Georgia Tech, but with the Yellow Jackets subsequent win over Clemson, in retrospect it's really not that awful. I watched the game again and basically it came down to that 21 to 3 run that did it. It was literally GT making every shot and UofL missing every shot, including most of its FT's.

Kelsey called two timeouts but the momentum was rolling for GT. However, with 3 minutes to go, the Cards made a run and had a chance to get within 2 points on a very difficult 3 by Smith. It didn't go in of course, but Louisville after leading by 11 at halftime, was close to stealing the win from GT.

How about that? Stealing a win even though you were up by 11 at halftime.

I think we all would like to see GT again in the ACC tournament. I like our chances.

But if the Cards lay an egg tonight against BC, everything I just wrote would be moot.

What comes first for UofL basketball ????

We have a Coach, a Fan base and a Team on a mission.

I was at the GT game and noticed a lack of player movement in the second half. Also missing FTs and Tech shooting lights-out didn't help. Tech paid us back by beating Clemson on the road last night. Win tonight and we can move back up to the second place in the conference.

Stay in the top four and get the double bye in the ACCT. Then get a NCAA invite and crash the party.

Go CARDS, beat BC.

The University of Kentucky and the fans get everything they deserve...

I'm so perplexed by this belief and I have friends who feel the same about the two coaches. For me there is no comparison between Coach Pitino and Coach Petrino.

Bobby Petrino only cared about what his stint at UofL was going to do to for his future plans. We all saw that after his first stint and after he failed miserably, he had to start all over again. Once he made his way back to Louisville, we all gave him the benefit of the doubt, only to see him basically quit and take advantage of the University's ignorance.

Coach Pitino on the other hand, was on his way to completing his career at Louisville, always seeking excellence for the program and his players. After the stripper scandal he didn't quit but tried to rise above the scandal and keep the program on track, but as we know, forces were just too determined to destroy the Louisville basketball program.

Now whether fans like or hate his personality is for me separate from his abilities and his accomplishments. Fans that hate him what do they think about former players who admire and laud him? Luke Hancock, Russ Smith and Peyton Siva all are loved by the same Cards fans who hate on Pitino. The players love Coach Pitino and defend him from these attacks. Are the haters going to hate these players? Are they telling them their wrong about their feelings for their coach?

Where are the former football players who do the same with Bobby Petrino?

I know we could argue all day and all night about the scandals that enveloped the program during Pitino's tenure here, and I certainly don't want to do that. I will say being the head coach, he is ultimately accountable and I believe he was willing to accept that. Now it didn't go down the way it should have which has all but ruined his legacy and relationship with the program.

Bobby Petrino in no way cares about his Louisville legacy or the fans. He never did.
Bottom line is, Bobby didn't have title vacated or totally embarrass the program by screwing some ho bag on a table at Porcinis, or allowing stripergate, or pay for play with Brian Bowen. And Ruck didn't ever embrace the city of Louisville. He thought he was bigger than the program or the city.

Bobby also grew our brand a lot during his first tenure. He really got us out there on the National stage. We probably wouldn't be where we are now without him..Basketball, although not at its best when Rick took over, the guy he replaced already had 2 National Championships and 6 Final Fours.
