Louisville stop rate defense ranked 92nd

We are 108th in the country for turnovers gained so the defense is certainly playing a big role in our shitty turnover margin.
We've committed six turnovers outright in the last seven games, and eight TOs on downs (failed 4th down conversions).

That's 14 in those games by the offense.

Is the defense great? No, and neither is the damn offense...

Clarkson?

What is insane? You and others not understanding the point?

Never, not one time did I say anything about any QB controversy. I've said over and over my point is my disappointment with Clarkson, not Shough.

Let's say for example, Brohm had SMU's Jennings instead of Clarkson when this season began. Does anyone not believe Brohm would use Jennings in some form?

With the hype Clarkson came with, I'm disappointed and surprised he still has rarely played.

So, please, no more retorts about some QB controversy.

You’re right to be disappointed in Clarkson, but if he was the next coming of Redman, Brohm (either), Bridgewater, or Jackson, we would not have taken Shough as a transfer in the first place.

Clarkson?

I can see your point about Clarkson not being good enough to play and the disappointment. I’m not surprised however since he doesn’t fit Brohms prototype QB, and he wasn’t his recruit. I’m not going to pretend that I know how good he is but as we all know that HS player rankings especially QB is far from an exact science(H.Bailey was a 4star top 100). I think Clarkson was over ranked and will be transferring to a west coast college school closer to home or he will join Satt in cincy
I concur with this opinion. I'm surprised he hasn't transferred already. Cincinnati may be his next school.

Clarkson?

This is absolutely insane. Shough is rated in the top 10 in the nation. Anyway Clarkson is not even the backup QB 😆

Something going terribly wrong in Lexington

It’s always a good week when UL wins and UK losses; but the way things played out in Kroger Field last night suggests that Stoops and UK have some under-lying issues that suggest that more than just injuries and poor performance are contributing to their decline. If there was ever a time to beat Auburn it was this season, and the way Auburn abandoned their pre-game strategy of passing the football in favor of running against UK’s “vaulted front four”, it exposed more than just UK’s defense. Stoops and his staff have lost control of their team.

I watched UK give both UGA and Ole Miss much more than I had ever expected, and it raised concerns as to just how UL would be able to win. Everything has changed, as it appears the players may “have packed it in”. For those UL fans questioning our own fundamental tackling, there is some consolidation in watching UK give up 220+ yards to Hunter when most of the yardage was after contact.

It’s a long way off, but we must beat UK this year regardless of what we do between now and then.

Likely fools gold… when Stoops lost to Vandy, the plan for the season (just like last year) changed to “get everybody healthy and rested up for the Governor’s Cup.” They have “packed it in”, but not for the season - just for the games that UK fans care a lot less about than the UofL game.

If you paid close attention to that second half, Deon Walker played sparingly. That was by design and I do not expect UofL to get that same treatment.

A Honest Discussion

I agree other teams have definitely picked up on Louisville issues with communication and lack of formation identification. It doesn’t appear to be a very instinctive or intelligent group in terms of defensive football.

I also think the staff is predictable because teams always run the right play against their defense. The wheel route that isolated or picked 41, who normally rushes. UK did the same thing last year. The wheel route Virginia they hit for a TD. Teams aren’t that lucky in calling the right play each time. Louisville is either very predictable or they are tipping their coverages.

A night game in Death Valley and the Cards are +10.5.

Points to focus on

1. Clemson has won 45 of their last 47 at home. Their 2 losses? A 1 point loss to SC at home & an OT loss to FSU last year who went undefeated. They don't lose there often. It's at night too. It's a night game.

2. They are coming off a bye week & we are coming off a brutal stretch of games. We've played GT, ND, SMU, UVA, Miami, and BC all in a row and every one of those games pretty much came down to the last drive. We've had some injuries and Lacy won't be coming down there with us either. They got to rest up and we're going to be beat up.

3. They're a pretty good team. I don't know if they're elite, but they're great. They were up 52-7 on NC State before they called off the dogs. They were up 38-10 in the 4th quarter before UVA got some late garbage points(our only mutual opponents). Outside of their Georgia loss, they've pretty much dominated most all of their opponents. We have played better opponents. Neither team has beaten a good opponent, but Clemson hasn't struggled in their games where they're clearly better. So they seem to handle business.

4. This is probably their biggest home game this season too. They will be loud and they know winning this puts them in the driver's seat for an ACC title berth and moves them up in the rankings to possibly sneak in an at-large berth. They're playing for something at home in primetime.

5. Even in wins, we've played sloppy on the road the last 2 years. Can our team be mistake free facing one of the loudest crowds in football? It's one thing to close out wins against weak crowds at UVA and BC, but Death Valley is tough for everyone.

I personally just think it's the situation rather than the team we have. If we were coming off a bye and playing at home, I'd feel really good. But they are coming off a bye and are at home. We're beat up after a tough stretch of games.

Something going terribly wrong in Lexington

Stoops whole era they've been bad in their passing attack. They've never had high level QB play other than when Wan'dale and Levis had something going.

What they did always have was Benny Snell, Lynn Bowden, Rodriguez, and the Davis kid that's with the Bills now. They had a running back that could go out there and make plays. They don't have that and in the SEC you cannot get away from that fact. They have a lot of talented guys on their roster, but it takes more than that to beat good football teams.

I would say we'll beat them and it could be an easy win, but that's because I think they'll quit. Go look at their history in the game, years when they do not make a bowl game they lose to us. Now we kept them from a bowl twice, but it's not often they beat us when they don't have a team that didn't make a bowl and maybe only happened like 1 time in the 30 year series.

If they were motivated to beat us, I would say they'd worry me a bit because our OL versus their defensive line plus they have some talent in their secondary. But? I think they'll quit by Thanksgiving weekend. Their top players will be ready to transfer or go to the draft. The stadium will be empty and maybe our biggest Card fan contingent ever in Lexington? Stoops is done and I don't think the players or him will care by that game.

My one fear is that it's announced he's stepping away and knows it's his last game and they fight hard to send him out with one last win. But I don't think that's going to happen.

Clarkson?

I think if he does play this year, it will be after the bye week against Stanford and maybe Pitt?

But you don't throw him into big games like we've been playing without good reps in practice. But if he was showing the potential, I do feel like we would have seen him more. I don't think Jeff is planning for a future where Pierce is the starter, but the option is open if he proves something.
