LOUISVILLE VS #12 TENNESSEE GAME THREAD- NOON ACCN

Just curious, how do you know they spent a lot of $ on the roster? How many of the NIL contracts have you seen? Not sure how we can discuss NIL too extensively when we don't have the info on what UofL spent and/or the info on what other teams spent.

They tried on Osobor, Quantance, and Bello and apparently didn't have the $ to get them. I don't think those guys took less $ to go other places.
I agree but not sure any of them really change the season. I am not a big guy on post play in this modern era of basketball. The college game is a guards game. Bottom line their guards-slash wings torched our guards and wings. With that said there aren’t many bigs that can legit shoot it, drive it, pass it and play down low. There are lot more big uglies that set screens and do the ugly work.

When you play 5 out offensively your bigs better force the traditional big to come out or your guards better be able to put the big on skates. Then your wings have to be able to slash and force rotations. Louisville did none of that. Again they had 2 -3legit perimeter defenders.

We will see.

Hate on Payne all you want. A 22-point home loss against the #12 team in the country is not significant improvement from last year. Don’t believe me, check comparable scores against the best teams on last year’s schedule.

Dominating hapless teams gives you a false sense of accomplishment. And style points—shooting and missing a bunch of outside shots—isn’t progress either.

Paul Rogers said at the 5-minute mark in the first half that “Tennessee didn’t buy into the hype.” Nor should our own fans…

Except that you won’t find any games (even exhibition games against D2 schools) during the Payne tenure where UofL won by 48.

Yes, Tennessee dominated us. The 22 point loss was still less than Payne’s 26 point loss to Arkansas, his 32 point loss to Texas A&M, and his 25 point loss to Maryland, all during his 9 game losing streak to start his first year.

Will the Cards be ranked?

That is the problem. The whole system is built of predictive metrics not performance. Basing the playoff on Vegas, let’s not play the games.

IU and BYU are undefeated at this point what they would do against anyone is in the future should be irrelevant. They are 1 4-5 teams that remain undefeated. They should have been ranked in the top 4-5. They were ranked 8-9 respectively. The impact is they will both be sitting behind 1 loss teams next week. They lose they drop out of playoff rankings. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Alabama jump both of them. IU and BYU are undefeated defeated behind Penn St and Tennessee? Why? Penn State has beat no one. Tennessee has beat Alabama. The loss to Ohio State and Arkansas were completely ignored. There is zero justification for where the committee put BYU and IU. Let’s BYU and IU prove they aren’t worthy don’t rank based off predictive metrics. That is for us degenerate gamblers.

What are we doing? We are rigging it for TV.

Playoff

Don't think playoffs are a reality.

SMU has to lose all 3 remaining conference games.

Clemson has to lose to Pitt.

Miami has to lose both to Wake and Syracuse.

We have to beat Stanford and Pitt.

But the most likely would take 2 things to happen, Clemson losing to Pitt and Miami losing both of their games even if we win out.
What has to happen for us just to get into the ACC Championship game besides running the table? That's probably the only possible way to catapult whoever it is we would play and obviously would have to win that game very convincingly to work into that top 12.

Who foresees a Indiana vs Louisville bowl matchup?

Well Push, prepared to be disappointed because if IU loses to OSU, they're not getting in. Unless of course there are upsets at the top.

There is just no way I can forsee a program like IU who may as well be a group of 5 team with their schedule and their history, get in over 2 loss programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas and Clemson. I don't see them getting in over 1 loss teams like BYU and ND, assuming BYU loses one game.

It's not right but it's the reality of college football. IU needs a big win and OSU is their only chance. It's just bad luck that Michigan and Washington are so down this season.

CBSsports now projecting Indiana in as the last at large. Being competitive next week at Ohio State will definitely be all important. And of course a win against OSU and Purdue would clinch at least an at large, no matter the result in the Big Ten championship game.

Also projecting Cards in the Gator versus LSU on Jan 2nd.

Fans hoping for style adjustment probably need to forget that. We aren't going to suddenly grow a post player or two. Now they can improve if they stick with it they all did just meet. But there are always going to be limitations given what they have.
Hopefully they will make the adjustment to not Jack up a 3 every other shot. It drives me nuts when a player gets a layup or put back opportunity and they pass it back out for another 3.

Not Ready For Prime Time

This was my concern with the middle. Scott is still just a SOPH that didn't start @ Charleston last year. In a perfect scenario, he's your energy guy off the bench and accumulating fouls for him is irrelevant in a 10-15 min role.

So he's either going to have to develop very quickly or they might need to take a look at letting him play off the pine where his game might be better suited.
I think we started off at least 2 of our exhibitions with Scott getting dunks. I think that was by design. Kelsey knows that as soon as he enters the game, he's going to foul and hence he gets nothing out of him. Unfortunately it happened when he started as well. Plus he knows he can't have Pryor and Waterman picking up early fouls guarding other team's big. I do think having Khalifa would have made us better inside. At least that is my theory.
