A tough start to the Louisville women's soccer's final road trip of the 2021 season. The Cards ran into #2 Virginia in Charlottesville and ended up on the short end of a 4-1 outcome.
Louisville (7-6-1, 3-5) gave up an "own goal" in the first 90 seconds to the Cavs when Gabby Kouzelos tried to stop a corner kick sequence and the ball deflected off her and a group of players into the Cards goal. UVA would add a second goal in the first half and take a 2-0 lead to halftime.
The Cards climbed within one in the second half when Julia Simon drove a shot past the UVA goalkeeper in the 70th. minute of play but the Cavs quickly responded with a score and added an additional goal for the 4-1 win.
Louisville was outshot 25-7 in the match and UVA held a 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The Cards continue the road swing with a visit to Clemson on Sunday.
