What we know.

Anthony Barber is the leading scorer and assist man for the Wolfpack. 22.9 ppg and 4.9 apg. He also grabs 5.4 rpg, and shoots over 84% from the free throw line. A one man stat stuffer.

Maverick Rowan and Caleb Martin average 12.6 and 12.2 ppg respectively. The eraser on the team is Anya who swats 3.1 shots per game. Abu is the leading rebounder at 8.1 rpg.

The Wolfpack uses mainly a 7 man rotation, so if the Cards can force and up tempo style, the chances of wearing them down improves. They don't seem to shoot very well from behind the line, but the last time I thought that about an opponent before the game, that team lit it up from behind the arc. Hopefully we're not NC State's Super Bowl.

A lot of people will disagree with this but one of the concerns we have playing State is their asst coach, Bobby Lutz. When I lived in Charlotte and went to the game every year, UNCC would give us fits even when we had better talent.

I 100% agree with you about Lutz. Porn mustache and all, he just killed it against the Cardinals. I always wondered why he never made it to a bigger stage as a head coach. I thought he was terrific.

He fell out of grace with the AD at the time, Judy Rose. It as expected that when some of the big boys left CUSA they should have dominated the league. Then they went to Atlantic 10 and it didn't happen there either. I would have thought he would get another chance as HC but maybe he's waiting for gottfired to actually be "fired"

It will be another tough match up for the Cards @ NC State. They beat the Cards last year at the Yum but the Cards got payback in the NCAAT. I'm thinking State comes out swinging to get their own bit of payback. They have the players to do some damage. Hopefully the Cards are up to the challenge.

We're six-point favorites at the moment which surprises me a little. I think I'd take those points...

This is their first home conference game. They are having a blackout. We knocked them out of the tournament last year. Plus add in the Cat Barber and Maverick Rowan stories. They are going to be hyped. It's going to take great execution and effort to win this game on the road.

Key in my opinion is keeping Anya and Abu off the offensive boards. Barber hurt us in the game at Yum last year no doubt, but what I think broke our back in the second half was we could not keep those two off the offensive boards. With Mango out, Nanu has to stay out of foul trouble. Johnson, Spalding and Anas have to concentrate on the defensive boards. Do a good job there we win.

I think you're spot on. Got to control the glass to win this one.

I was at that game in 86, doing a co-op in Raleigh. Talk about depressing. Seemed like the Cards didn't really play hard that game, though a lot of it had to do with Chris Washburn. 6'11" center for NC State who could have been damn good but wasted his talent. Not that day though. He was tough.

But I was at a bar in Raleigh to watch the UL - UNC game in the tourney. Loved it. Especially when at work that day, I overheard UNC fans talking about how they were already writing us off. That was so SWEET.

Drove home to Louisville for the weekend of the final 4. What a great year!

NC state kind of remind me of a poor mans UK. Fast point guard, streaky wings and athletic but offensively limited bigs. Hopefully they don't shoot 3s dramatically better than their season avg like UK did. Also we cannot let Barber control the game like Ulis did.

Good points K

This is going to be one of those emotional roller coasters where the home team jumps out on the emotional surge of the home black-out crowd and the desperate mentality of being 0-1 in league play. I fully expect them to be up double digits by the second TV timeout. Then it settles down, we wear them down 2nd half and it's a one or two possession at the end. Whoever makes the late plays will win.

My Wife and I lived in Raleigh from 84-86 and there was an NC State fan, who worked as a butcher at Krogers. I remember taking crap from him when The Cards lost to the Pack in Reynolds Coliseum. Seeing him was worse than our seats in the middle of the Pack's Student Section.

Once the Cards beat UNC and then Duke in the Championship game the Butcher would see me coming and would hide out in the meat cooler. It was sweet being in the Research Triangle I that Championship Season. I cleaned up the NCAA pool.

Remember that the last loss for the Cards in the 80 and 86 seasons were to a Jim Valvano coached team.

That's crazy. Our time there was similar. I was there in 85-86 and was sharing an apt with a co-worker who was an NC STate student and fan (and most of his friends). Good guy though. Had a great time in Raleigh while I was there. You are in Cincy apparently (based on your id) and I'm now in Dayton.

Yeah, I'm a Louisville Native, Lived in Cincy from 1993-2009, and now split time between SC and Fla. I was just up in Dayton for a Half Marathon in October 2015.

I lived off of Jones Franklin Road in Raleigh and spent quite a bit of time over at NC State. I played in some City Basketball leagues with Sydney Lowe and other EX-Pack players. I loved that area as they know and love their basketball.

Needless to say, I am thrilled that the Cards are in the ACC. I will be at the Clemson game on Sunday, 6 rows off the floor.
