UofL guard Quentin Snider will be out 2-3 weeks with a strained hip flexor

Overworked.....
Should not have been tasked to play 35-40 minutes a game.

Now we are behind because Hicks has been kept on the bench.

Hopefully this injury helps us develop depth and players actually get to play.

Mitchell can play point, king can play the 2 guard.

Mcmahon and levitch need some clock as well.

I agree this will help us develop the bench a little, I don't think it will help us in the win column. We have some tuff games coming up, but at least we know how the injury happened.

Probably happened when he fell awkwardly in the Duke game. Hope he recovers quicker than expected, but this opens up a potential opportunity for Mitchell to move to the 1, slide Adel or King to the 2. Also this could mean a lot more playing time for Hicks. Injuries is a part of the game, so next man up. The next few weeks are going to be a big test for the team now.

Time for Mr.Hicks to shine.
Q'll be back before we know it.Also,CP can slide Don over.

As I understand Hip Flexors can be tough to heal. Hope it's not that severe. Time for other players to step up.
they can be a very nagging and pesky injury. often, you can play, but not 100%. unfortunately, the only way they heal is time off. and if you come back too soon, you can keep re-injuring it. it's a tough middle of the season injury.

i like the idea of mitchell running point with king and adel on the wings.

Worst person too lose their is not capable back up that you can trust to run this team for that long period of time. Q had been playing very well, it never fails with team now he will be behind when he returns never fails always our most important player.

I hope Q recovers quickly and is back soon.

This is a lineup I have wanted to see on the floor for an extended run for a long time. I hope we see this one at some point.

Mitchell
Adel
King
Ray
Anas

Actually I think it makes more sense to start Levitch at the PG. CRP has said David knows the offense better than any player. The question is can he run it. If Q was out for the season, I would say move DM to the point but we will get Snider back. I have heard it is difficult for a 2 to switch to the 1. Let DM continue to play the 2 instead of two players adjusting. VJ has mainly subbed Adel at the 3. Mitchell can make great passes but he is not a great passer, yet. His assist to turnover rate is 1.45 and it really needs to be around 2.0. Snider's is 2.88.

Every game without him is winnable. It's certainly not a good thing but the silver lining as previously noted is some folks are going to get some valuable experience against top competition over the next 3 weeks. This could pay off in March & April!

You make some very good sound counterpoints that are rational in thought. I guess the silver lining with Q getting hurt means coach Pitino has a very important decision to make. I don't always like what he says or does (especially off the court), but I do trust his ability to coach. He's in the Hall of Fame for a reason. He is a great coach. I trust he'll do the best with what he has to work with.

uggg, I've had this on both hips...as soon as he limped up holding his right hip I had sympathy pain...that was a weird play because he landed on his L side but injured his R hip...I'm sure his 20 y/o body will do better than my 40+ y/o one did (time to put this horse out to pasture I'm afraid)

I meant also to say I favor a two headed monster with Hicks being able to make up for Sniders defensive play. Anyway I see Hicks getting more time and hopefully more confidence.

I hope your point of Hicks getting more confidence is the issue, but I feel it's a combination of trying to do to much and not understanding the system. If it's more the later than more playing time will help.

I'm hoping the ship has not already sailed on Hicks.
18 games in as a 5th year senior.

I really thought we would be seeing and getting more from him by this point.

If the bell is not going off for him now, it never will. Huge opportunity that I hope he is able to take advantage of.

Pitino may start Levitich but he will not get most of the minutes at that spot. It will mostly depend on matchups so it's possible he gets a majority of the minutes.

If hicks does not get 15-20 minutes in the stretch Q is out it does notnbode well for us having a special season.

I thought the same thing a few weeks ago about Hicks regarding more minutes, but I am not so sure about that now. We will see.

I still think Hicks may have a lot to offer this team, I'm just not sure how much and to what extent this far into the season. At times, Hicks has not looked comfortable and even worse lost when he has been on the floor for whatever reason.

I really hope he does well and has a positive impact. I want to see him do well.

I hope he doesn't rush back too soon and try to play thru it.His teammates will hold the fort and I get to see if all my gushing on Mitchell being a true combo is right or wrong.

Without playing time even Johnson looks lost when he gets in.

Johnson was a starter and looked great averaging double doubles. Not getting minutes has diminished his play.

We all know rick loves mind games. Not every player can play through the mind games.

Hopefully we can fight through it as a team and be ready for a solid tourney run.

Losing Snider hurts, most definitely. He's been playing very well. That being said, I think losing Mitchell would have been far worse. He's the key to UL scoring. If not himself, then by opening things up for others. In the short term, I think we can kind of cover for Snider (though not completely) by using Hicks, Levitch and having Mitchell take over some. After all, so much of our offense involves weaves and having a big man up top looking to pass underneath.

I hate to not have Snider against the better teams though.

My bet is he will return after this week. Some sort of Pitino miracle.

Next Five Games:

Clemson
Florida State
Pittsburgh
NC State
Boston College

If there is a two week period for someone to get hurt during conference play, this would be it. Florida State is currently the only team ranked. Clemson is at home. Last years game was the foul fest where FTs were 50-15 or something like that. Against Pitt, I think the taller lineup with King would be beneficial.

The committee also takes into account injuries to key players.

The sky is not falling, just giving some guys a chance to rise to new heights and be better prepared for post season.

I hope that he moves DM into the 1 spot with VJ at the 2. Not sure if VJ is ready to defend the 2 spot but, time will tell. The problem is that we don't have anyone to truly fill in for Q and replicate what he brings really at all. Levitch isn't able to get into the paint off of the bounce to either get a layup or facilitate for a big and really isn't able to create his own shot. Hicks can't shoot, doesn't make good decisions and has been a TO machine. Let's see what the 5 star has got.

Either way an already offensively challenged team just got even more so.

This is ridiculous. He fell on his hip after being knocked to the ground. You think that had to do with him being overworked, or maybe it was just an unfortunate bump? He'll be fine. If this was March, he probably would be playing.

He's also averaging 30 mpg for the season.

I hold the opinion that he is over worked and that the backups are lost because they have not received ample playing time.

That is my opinion and i fully believe it.

Would like to see johnson get 15-20 minutes a game and for the mindgames to relax a little, but that is my opinion on my teams opinion board.

I believe DM is ready for the point and that VJ is ready for the 2. Or even Adel.

It will help us if Adel lives up to the hype and provides the power he is praised to have. We need everybody to step up during this stretch.

Levitch played great against UK and we have not really seen him since then.

Mcmahon is the best shooter on the team and i believe time would help him. If rick can play him 5-10 minutes a game ot can only help us down the road.

Johnson needs to be loved and not toyed with. Mind games effect players differently. I believe the mind games have almost shut him down. He is a double double guy and we need him.

The key to a deep team is keeping them happy. I hope rick brings it all together and that this stretch showcases to rick what he has on his bench.

This is a critical juncture for our team. It will tell us what we are.

I hope the news is good.

Rick isn't real big on "keeping them happy". I think he likes Ray for 25 minutes/game at the 4 and Johnson for the other 15. JJ is justifying that by not contributing much when he gets in.
I think Rick starts Levitch at the point and tries to go with him as long as he we are winning or he is effective. Then Hicks and maybe some minutes out of McMahon. I don't think you will see Mitchell at the point unless Plan A, B and C fails.

I believe this to be true. Rick plays to the level of his competition and never overpowers them so the exact words you typed is what will happen.

If this was 96 he would play them in 4 minute segments and tell them to give everything they have for 4 minutes and overpower teams.

This stretch will tell me everything.

We have shooters and players. Do we have a coach that will get every drop out of every player? If we do, we will have a very special run for the next 3 seasons.

Chicken and egg conversation. Q has played well but is no world beater - if Hicks, Levitch or McMahon were a viable option at either the 1 or the 2, Q (or DM) wouldn't be logging all of those minutes. They've not been so Pitino is doing what he feels he must to win games.

The playing time angle only goes so far. All of the backups have practiced the same amount as the starters - which is where you learn the system. If guys are unable to take that into games and be successful, then they don't deserve anything beyond what they're getting.
