According to a source, Louisville is prepared to lose women's basketball coach Jeff Walz to Tennessee at the end of the season. Walz is 330-99 in 12 seasons in Louisville.

Not a big surprise, and what should concern you most about U of L athletics going forward...

This will be an interesting one too watch. Considering that salaries for woman coaches are nowhere near top mens coaches . Not enough return for the buck i'm sure his salary is on par with all the other top womens coaches so unless the Vols are going to go against the grain and pay some crazy amount for a womens coach that doesn't make sense. I think it would be if he just wants to go to the Vols it's not like that program is chop liver in womens BB much more storied program than ours. Personally i think he leaves 12/13 years along time at a place.

Walz's salary lags the Top Five, in some cases significantly.

The problem is U of L has no money. In fact, "Vince" is CUTTING expenses like recruiting.

And that's a NEW problem we started experiencing around a year ago...

Show me the salaries i'd like to see

I know Geno is at the million mark understandable many championships warranted And Summit before her tenure ended was million plus warranted. No other WBB coach has warranted that type money than these two not even Walz no championship yet! But i'm not an expert on WBB finances nor U of L's just my opinions.

You'd think after watching Asia, Sam, and Arica leave, Jeff would be like "I'm getting the hell out of here. Bridge season next year." But, the class coming in is fire. I have no doubt UT will make a run at him. They'd be stupid not to. But, take what he's got going on here, combined with nearby family, his contract extension last year, UT is a shell of its former self, unless they throw a ton of dough at him, it's not a wise business move.

"There are no easy to find lists for women's basketball, but from what I can find on an internet search...

Geno Auriemma $2.4 million
Kim Mulkey $1.85
Vic Shaefer $1.6
Dawn Staley $1.45
Jeff Walz $1.15

And these are just the coaches I looked for, there may be others ahead of Walz..."

The simple extension is meaningless. No chance a good coach is getting fired.

Along with that, however, was an annual salary increase of $50,000. That's around 5% which is an insult...

UT will throw some real cash at Walz. Will find out what Vince is made of. I will agree with Zipp in one regard. Vince better find some real donors and if that means kissing some A$$ he better get to it. I personally will not be happy if we lose Walz due to money. But let’s remember last year, Jeff was not happy with the lack of advertising for the women. I know they don’t bring in cash, but it’s like the canary in the mine shaft. It’s a sign of the health of the program. And there’s a pretty good following and I might add it’s growing. Let’s hope it’s UT trying to create traction. Walz needs to come out and say he’s not interested, but he may also be using it to bump his contract; I fear it’s to late.

He’s from Chattanooga...the Times Free Press fwiw

The blogger in a recent tweet said his source is from inside Louisville athletic department. There should be nothing coming out of that department at this time other than their current run at a title. What is the point? Why bring that kind of distraction on the kids. Also, who knows the context of the conversation if one even occurred. Count me as skeptical.

I do get the appeal of the Tennessee job. They have great support and tradition. He has been terrific and he would fit at UT. The thing about women's basketball you are either good or average it won't take much to fall in the average category.

I won't argue with Zipp on this one it could be a money issue for Walz and the program. Walz may not be getting the kind of support he feels is necessary.

The fact that the leak is with UofL that makes me question how accurate the info is. And is he throwing smoke. I have little trust in reporters.

So some bozo from a nothing newspaper in a nothing town in Tennessee makes an unsubstantiated claim. Big deal
Cool city...my hometown. Reputable journalist. Not an amateur blogger who throws out message board rumors. Sounds like only one end of it. No word coming out of Knoxville. Warlick isn’t even unemployed yet.

How exactly does a Chattanooga reporter develop a source in UofL’s athletic department? Call me more than skeptical. Just something to get clicks on their website.

He’s in town because the men’s team is in the Sweet 16. He tweeted it btw. He most likely did some research via the city owned lightning fast internet connection...or recently introduced cellphones. ;)

I remember when UT announced Charlie Strong was going to be their next football coach.
After he ACCEPTED the job before changing his mind? Never happened before in the history of sports. Didn’t he stress how happy he was when the Texas job was rumored?

Where do you get your info from it's like you're in another world. The thing that is really funny to me is you are Tennessee a program who thinks that you are great in everything. However you all keep coming at all our coaches in all the sports. That must mean we are greater than you.

Tyra would come up with the money to pay him if need be. Don't fool yourself.

Pretty sure I know we haven’t been “great in everything” in quite a while. Just had two seasons of quality men’s basketball after Texas dumped our coach and there’s a reason why there’s speculation that we’re looking for a new women’s basketball HC. Won’t even start on our football program because we’re hopefully starting to fix it. We never went after Petrino or Pitino...so you’re being a little dramatic and a faux victim. If you have a quality coach, other programs are going to try to steal them. It’s called the way it is! It’s still not set in stone that our AD is going to fire Warlick...they go way back. He didn’t appreciate the way he was fired and may give her ANOTHER chance on top of the one she got after last season. Write your AD and protest. Kept Schiano from being foisted on us.

I'm talking about our women's basketball coach, football coach, soccer coach, baseball coach almost every coach we have is an envy of Tennessee.

Nah. Women’s basketball pretty much covers our wish list. We could’ve easily hired Appy State’s football coach last year. Our softball team with the Weekly’s is an annual power. Vitello has our baseball team ranked. I don’t think we have enough awareness of soccer to envy what you got. If Walz stays with you our business with you is done.

Then go hire Mitchell from the cayuts.
Theyve beaten yall every year here recently.

Walz would fail in the SEC.

He’s got history with us but has built his own thing in Lexington...not an option. Didn’t your team plaster his? Walz would be right up there with Staley in the SEC. As previously stated, beating UT isn’t a resume builder “recently”. First season in forever not winning 20 and an 11th seed in the tourney...not deserved.

I'm talking about the past.
You do you on that. We have good tradition. When’s the last time you won a NC in football? Your men’s basketball team has been great...cept we dominated you without hardly trying “recently”.

ACC is a better basketball conference for men and women's basketball going to the SEC would be a step down.

I wouldn't call winning the game in the last 5 minutes domination. You have 2 good years in basketball and you think you're a player we'll see next year. You haven't been relevant in women's basketball or football in 10 years.
