Projected Starting Lineup ‘19-20

I'll rephrase, he's the best 6'10" 260 pound center that struggles to get 5 rebounds or 1 blocked shot per game. He did hit 10 three pointers though.
Careful SS, he might throw a tantrum since you live in Chicago, and you can’t make every home game.

Guess he doesn't have a whole off-season to get better. Give the guy a break. He barely played at Uconn and had to sit an entire season here, so his first real season was last year. I guess we won't take that into consideration.

Yeah, I hope he does improve. However that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend his game didn't have serious flaws last year. I realize I'm just a asshole behind a keyboard, but I am willing to bet his stats don't improve in 19-20. If Williams and Hulk do deliver, Enoch's stats will probably dip.

I want Enoch to improve too, but he needs to become more aggressive on both offense and defense. I was impressed with the role Malik took on this past year of becoming a defensive stopper, however he wasn’t up to par in terms of strength. Steve has a better grasp of post moves and has a soft touch that translates to baskets, I just want to see him rebound better, and not be so tentative on defense. Now that we’ve added depth to our front court, we won’t have to worry as much about foul trouble.

From an outsider's perspective...

Your best 5?
5-Enoch
4-Williams
3-Nwora
2-Williamson
1-Perry

Sutton, Kimble, Igeihon, Johnson...these are your next 4 that are your 8-9 man rotation

Nickleberry, McMahon, Withers...these will be the situational guys.

By March, it will be down to 8 rotation guys...and your 9th guys is usually your 4th guard that's needed a few minutes and if there's foul trouble. Someone like a McMahon can get minutes...but it will be during the times he's needed most. (Zone defense, slower guards, crunch time for free throws)

Some points
1. Perry needs to be the point guard if you want to compete for a final 4. That's your weak point on the roster. Perry has a very high ceiling as a player and has shown flashes of becoming a great player. He's played 2 years in the ACC. He's long, quick, and has a lot of raw skill on offense. For you all to excel, he has to be the one to take the big step. He's the only one I see that's athletic/skilled enough now....with the potential to get the ball down the floor. In summary, he's the key to the season.

2. I don't think Kimble is who you guys will want to rely on for big minutes at the one. He was NOT the point guard on Saint Joes last year he was their shooting guard, and almost an even A/T ratio. Shot below 39.7% from the field and shot 29.2% from 3...and wasn't really their top scoring option. He can score in bunches...loves to shoot....but that's who you want coming off the bench as a senior that can provide some relief. He's not the one you will want to rely on in March.

3. David Johnson may not be ready day 1...but I his length and versatility give you guys options. Nickleberry and he will compete for a rotation spot....and heck if they're ahead of schedule...maybe become the 3rd guard is in their future. McMahon will be a factor early, but your hope is the other guys are developed along enough that he'll be a luxury rather than a need.

4. Sutton needs to be the 6th man. As I've read you guys argue....Sutton really doesn't have a true position. Playing him at the 3/4 along side Nwora....that really hurts size and will but Jordan against some bigger players more often. Sutton can be the swiss army knife off the bench.

5. Enoch and Malik together give you two pieces to anchor the paint. Enoch can add the tougness...Malik can be the rim protector with length...Malik was the best rim protector on your team last year and his presence alone can help out the guards on defense. Both can shoot...which gives Nwora more room. Igiehon and Sutton can adjust accordingly depending on need.

6. The Freshman. You have a lot of good ones, the only forsure things I see is that Williamson can contribute at a high level on day 1...and Igiehon has the body and hops to provide energy off the bench. A lot of it depends on play time and confidence out of the gate. Say Nickleberry/Johnson/Withers get less PT when the rotation gets trimmed...they may just fall back at the end of the year and will be ready for next year.

I see you guys as a very high floor team, probably the highest floor of any team in the nation. Experience and shooting options all across the floor. The point guard play is the big question mark...but there's enough options in the overall backcourt where again...a very high floor. I'd say that big man play could be an issue with foul trouble...but Sutton/Nwora can shift over if needed.

Best Case Scenario?
Darius Perry becomes an All-ACC level point guard. Can distribute the ball and score in a way that give you all the most balanced lineup in the country....feeding and taking pressure off Williamson and Nwora to create. David Johnson is the big surprise and takes the role as the first guard/wing off the bench.

Worst Case Scenerio?
Samuel Williamson doesn't really score at the level that you all need him to be an elite team. You have a PG platoon of Kimble/Perry/Johnson...because none of them have been able to hold it down...you still struggle with full court pressing.

There are a lot of options - practice figures to be intense. Lineup could shuffle depending on a lot of different things.

Fair points overall - thinking a little about this one.

One thing Kimble did not have @ St. Joe's was a catch and shoot teammate like Nwora, or other offensive players with as much talent as the Cards have to score the ball. The ast stat can get padded here next year with this group, and I'd think he'll be looking to pass more as a guy joining a roster that's got this kind of offensive firepower already in place. Nwora can get this guy 2-3 easy apg without much play making really happening.

That's if Kimble is getting starter's minutes, which I thought he'd get, but I mean I really do not know.

We'll see, I've never done well with the crystal ball.

My questions on Enoch are - will his defense improve? Will he become a better passer of the ball? With the type of shooting around him, he could stand to improve on that.

He had 6 assists last year. Williams had 9. These guys could work on an offensive rebound kick out.
