A couple of baseball notes ... from WDRB's Rick Bozich.

3. Ballard High School baseball star Jordon Adell is blowing up on the national scene. J.J. Cooper of Baseball America magazine tweeted on Friday that Adell put on a hitting show during scouting day at the Under Armour All-American camp in Chicago.

Tommy Stokke of Today’s Knuckleball web site
wrote this story about Adell that was headlined:

What if Bo Jackson played only baseball? Meet Jordon Adell.

Adell is orally committed to the University of Louisville, but Stokke wrote that Adell is ranked the Number One position player among high school guys for the 2017 Baseball Free Agent Draft.

Adell is one of two underclassmen invited to play at Wrigley Field Saturday. He was clocked at 6.19 in the 60-yard dash, a faster time than Mike Trout ran as a high school senior.

4. It’s always wise to practice safe hype, especially in baseball.

Former University of Louisville outfielder Corey Ray has discovered the transition to professional baseball is tricky. Drafted fifth overall by the Milwaukee Brewers last month, Ray has struggled through his first 17 pro games. (
Stats link.)

In 81 plate appearances, Ray has managed three extra-base hits – two doubles, a triple and zero home runs. He’s batting .234 with 15 strikeouts and four walks. Ray has stolen one base and been thrown out twice – after stealing 44 bases in 53 attempts at Louisville in 2016.

Sure would be nice to hang onto Jordan Adell. But it doesn't look very good. If he's offered ginormous money coming out of high school, the young man should take it and run.

Hope Corey gets things ironed out quick. Really want him to succeed.
