BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The month of April – and 17 scheduled games – begins for the Indiana Baseball team (15-13, 6-6 B1G) on Tuesday (April 1st) with a big test against No. 18 Louisville at Bart Kaufman Field. The Big Ten Network will carry the game on national television with Connor Onion and Scott Pose on the call.
FAMILIAR FACE: Redshirt sophomore outfielder Korbyn Dickerson will take on his former team when IU plays Louisville on Tuesday. His transfer to Bloomington has helped him rocket into a candidate for Big Ten Player of the Year. He is top three in the Big Ten in hits (44), home runs (13), RBIs (46) and runs (36).
Probable Starters
Louisville
• Tuesday – LHP Ryan Kraft, Sr. (0-1, 5.57 ERA)

Important mid-week game for both teams. Hoosiers at 15-13 and need to go on a big win streak to get into contention for the NCAA Tourney. Cards need to win to stay on the right side of the NCAAT bubble and to stay in contention to host a regional.

Cards lead 1-0, with Hoosiers batting in the bottom of the first.

Can't say the same for Murphy. Oh well

Sidenote: Dickerson has 13 homers for IU
Kilen with 11 for Tennessee

Dickerson couldn't get a smell over here sitting behind 3-4-5 year guys. Trinity kid makes it even worse.

Our pitchers surely to God don't miss on their misses as bad in practice as in games.
I don't get why they can't throw a breaking ball in the right zip code

Not sure if I would have assigned as passed balls, or wild pitches? Either way it’s pretty disappointing.

That double steal reminded me of The Grateful Dead. “Set up like a bowling pin.” IU catch fell for it hard.

When you rely on freshman arms like they have there is a lot of variance in their performance. They can be great for 2 batter then awful for a couple of batters. You figure if you use enough of them one will figure it out.

A midweek game 4 runs should result in a win in most midweek games and most weekend games.

Two good pitching performances in a row. They could improve throughout the year as well.

The main issue besides locating their fastball is their inability to consistently throw the off speed pitch in or around the zone. Nothing worse than a one dimensional pitcher who grooves it like batting practice.

The hope is that they can figure it out while the offense carries the brunt. It was an otherwise decent pitching performance yesterday.

Very happy for the road win. Let’s not have short-term memory loss though
- Z, better base running-it isn’t the first time.
- Pitching. This has been discussed over and over. Would really like to see Peter moved to Saturday. Pen has to consistent. Just don’t come in and throw multiple balls and immediately place yourself in trouble.
-While I appreciate EKJ’s HR - again, consistency is the key. Happy to see at DH if he can reduce the bad at-bats. Limit the SOs.
-Tyson. Love him hitting. The defense behind the plate with he and Baker there…is average at the very best. I hope they can both improve throughout the season.

This comes with learning how to pitch. Cutt’s shouldn’t be having this much trouble. The freshman just didn’t need their off-speed stuff in high school. They could rely on their 88-90 fastball even if they got behind. They didn’t even have to locate it in a good spot. In college especially today with all the strength programs and data pitchers have to mix it up and stay ahead in the count. That is a huge adjustment for freshman. Again no issue with the freshman they are learning. The issue is the staff ignored the portal and didn’t add quality veteran arms.

Their plan can still work if the freshman improve, we will see.

Midweek games should not be used as an indicator of anything except trying to find that 4th or 5th pitcher if and when you get to the ACC tournament or CWS. We pitched 9 guys and IU pitched 7. It is just like getting bullpen work in. We probably have a lot of guys who can go 1-2 innings. Its when they get stretched out more. That's the problem with our 2 weekend starters with the possible exception of Forbes, who is consistently good through 5. Thats when you need to get guys up in the bullpen. For Michael, its after the 3rd or 4th inning. Schlageter and Hartman going 1-2 innings is not an indicator they can go 6-7 innings in ACC play.

Disagree with your take regarding mid-week games. A 4th starter is a very big deal when it comes to winning a competitive regional that goes beyond 3 games.

So,you're saying these Freshmen pitchers have gotten this far on just velocity? Hard to imagine getting into a P5 program without something else in the repertoire.

I'm ok with the Freshmen too. I'm only saying we have no chance of getting to Omaha without them. They have to step up.
As far as Cutts,he's coming off an injury I think. We better hope he's going to turn the corner and soon.
