Well, The S.S. Louisville is sinking!

We lost our last 4 games in 2016, including our bowl game.

We are 4-2 in 2017. 1-2 in the ACC

We just dropped out of the top 25 in both the AP poll and Coaches Poll.

We are heading in the wrong direction.

Louisville is falling apart while Petrino fiddles.

This will continue until 2023. Thanks for the 7 year extension TJ!!!

We're doing fine. Just a few things to fix in the short run.

Our record is among the best in the country for P5 teams since Petrino's arrival. And that's the biggest picture and the bottom line. Relax...

The root of any issues can be found in incomplete recruiting. We lacked balance in the recruiting classes, so we have some areas that not only lack talent but lack experienced depth.

Recruiting isn't everything....look at Butch Jones. Great recruiter. Terrible coach.

I'm not sold on Petrino being a great 'in game' coach. It feels like he always has a good script in the first half and then teams adjust and we fall apart.

Well, it has been the case in 2016 and 2017. However, it has not been the case in his career overall.

TJ hit the panic button when Strong left. He hired the wrong guy.
There could be an argument made for TJ picking the wrong guy 3 times in a row. We all know Kragthorpe was a disaster. Turns out coach Strong is cut that way, and now Petrino looks to be coaching with a softness that our grandparents showed us when we were kids.

Just saying.

I realize hindsight is 100% but I wonder and if Charlie wonders where our program and he would be if he stayed? Boring football or contending for a ACC Championship?

Some visitors and our own fans are nuts... Petrino has one of the better records in P5 football since his arrival. You don't can that guy, you give him a new contract...

Yeah, but 1 and 9 against ranked teams? With 3 seasons of Lamar Jackson...
I really like this argument... Does that mean you would like a few more of those wins and be OK with a few more losses against unranked teams? Let me guess..."yes" and "no".

Which simply means you wanna be better than ranked tenth in conference win % since Petrino 2.0 among all P5 teams. Oh, it also means you want an equal or better win % as FSU during those four years.

Time for your spaceship to return to Earth...

If you were to fire a coach with 8 or 9 wins a season, that's a pretty big step. Also whoever you bring in will have a different philosophy and different needs as far as the type players he wants. Coming in with a run first system or a coach that wants to run a four man front after recruiting for a 3-4 is a jolt.
Unless the wheels drop off completely or something else unforseen comes through the NCAA Bobby Petrino may be the face of the athletic program a couple years ars.

PLUS..... would Lamar Jackson have been the Heiamann winner under a different coach?

New contract? I can't see how.

I like this argument too. Ok let’s break those nine losses down. Four are to Clemson, the first three were by a combined 15 points. Only the last meeting was out of control. And one of those (Clemson teams) was a NC runner up and one was the NC. Three losses were to FSU. A very strong team. So that leaves two. NCSU and LSU . NCSU is turning out to be pretty darn good. I wouldn’t get rid of s guy just because of that record. We have to earn our stripes in the ACC. Will get there if the President and board don’t screw it up.

I think the POV distills down to "we want to win more games against marquee teams and all of the rest."

Yeah, no problem... o_O

I don't know about you guys but constantly losing to the better teams that we play is a big concern. If we want and expect our football team to be one of the nation's best that has to change.

Beating lesser foes is better than losing to them although a 2nd consecutive loss to UK could strain that formula. What would a loss to Wake, Syracuse or Virginia mean?

Eventually all Cards fans would board that spaceship zipp talks about. We all expect things to turn around after that 9-1 start last year, but there are no signs right now that will happen anytime soon. I'm not calling for any firing, even at DC. However, it's pretty clear to this fan that things better change quickly if any of these coaches want to stay on here, including Bobby Petrino.

This nailed it. You've got to have quality depth and some experience there.

Hilarious. Funny how perception is when you are winning. Then, hit adversity and the coach is a bum. The AD who hired him is a bum. The previous coach who left for greener pastures- bum.

So my question to the board is, who is in charge of recruiting? I say Coach Bobby Petrino. I say the buck stops on his on his desk and nowhere else!

No one is arguing that it doesn't fall on Petrino. It seems that he is finally recruiting with some balance in this class.

But we are not talking about coaches on a high school salary. We are talking about a coach that is ,asking between $3 to $5 million a year for his services. To whom much is given much is expected. He is not earning his keep!

Everything's relative. Stupes makes $3.5 million annually.

We might be getting a helluva deal...

Time for your spaceship to return to Earth...

I expect growth and progress. 9-4, 8-5, 9-4 last 3 years. This year I would expect to be better...10-3 or you are going to have a hard time selling me on the system is doing anything but just treading water.

One key indicator, are we getting closer to beating Clemson? We have to be able to split with Clemson/FSU every year (Last Year CHECK!; This Year TBD). To get where we need to be, we will have to beat them both outright (in the same year).

We beat who we are suppose to and lose to who we are suppose to (generally). I can live with that for a couple more years but I need to see the curve start moving over to 11-2's being the way of life with 12-1 and 10-3 becoming the bracket ranges.

I don't expect an equal win % to Clemson/FSU in the first 4-6 years...but I do expect us to start closing the gap as we head towards the later part of the period. By the 8 year mark...I do expect parody. If there isn't a pathway to this expectation we will never achieve it.

Your football program ain't at that level nor is your talent. It doesn't matter what you expect because you have unreasonable expectations as a fan. In essence, you wanna be almost as good as Clemson and better than FSU. Sorry to inform you, but you're in a spaceship orbiting the Earth with that POV.

There's nothing misplaced about the players and coaches expecting greatness. You want those guys aiming for a national championship. As fans trying to maintain perspective, you can't get caught up in that because it's delusional at some level and almost certain to disappoint you...

So 8 years into transition you have no expectation to be better than 9-4? I'm not saying today or tomorrow, or even next year. Two full recruiting classes into the new conference, yes I expect us to be able to better battle with the big boys (11-2 would give us room to lose to either FSU/Clemson and one other game while winning the rest or losing to both while winning the rest of the schedule and the Bowl). If in 8 years this is not reasonable then when Zipp? 20 years, 30 years...sometime before the Sun goes nova?

You've made some good arguments in the past but resolving to accept mediocrity as 3rd place in a division is an arguably better definition of delusional. That resembles some of my Mets friends who just assume they start last in the division on opening day as it's closer to where they will wind up anyway.

Your recruiting isn't that much better--nor should it be--than before the ACC. That's a factor, but it's not the overriding one. And that's not an indictment of U of L 's recruiting--it's true of everyone. Your recruiting makes slow, gradual improvement over a long period of time. If you study other programs, you'll see that.

There's also no timetable for this stuff, and it depends on what others around you are doing. Did you know that Clemson would look like Alabama of the ACC when you were admitted? I didn't.

And you obviously don't know what "mediocrity" is. Your conference record is the 10th best in P5 football since you joined the ACC, not 30th or 40th. That's tied with Georgia and Florida, and a little worse than FSU. That may be a number of things, but "mediocre" ain't one of them. That's just how you FEEL at the moment...

I’ll say this. I expect to see a different attitude with this team from here on out, starting tomorrow.

There are a lot of eyes on this coaching staff and team to see how they finish off the season even if there won’t be an abundance of them in the stands tomorrow.

There is everything to play for. All the important stuff that is.

Hilarious. I remember you were one of the loudest voices longing for "old 41 and 9" back in the Charlie Strong days.

Well, you got him. Good call. Now try to be happy for once.
