Word is, on another board that his agent has reached out and is interested. Fire Petrino now and hire him ??? What say you ?

There has to be talks going on behind the scenes with Vince, Venables, and Vince and Brohm. I'd be ecstatic with either of these guys.

Has Venebles had his rabies shot?

Seriously, the guy needs to try decaf
I also didn’t like the fact that he was blitzing up 61 points late fourth quarter.

If he has reached out, it’s probably to get some leverage for more dough from Dabo.

The first 2 things you mentioned I'd love to have in a coach. Our coach lately acts and sounds like a xanax addict or he drinks nyquil before the games

He would be a great choice but I sure don't see it. Why would he leave Clemson for the dumpster fire in Louisville? I understand Jeff Brohm because his family IS UofL, but where's the connection come from to snag Venables away from his current job?

Louisville has a lot to offer. History of consistent winning before this season, Great facilities, strong fan base when you do well, power five conference, great place to live, medium expectations. Very good pay. Talented roster. Don’t think no one would ever come. There are a lot of very good coaches who would jump at the Louisville job.

I hate this stupid "dumpster fire" take. What are coaches for? Exactly what you're saying. To turn it around! They don't look at it that way. Only our fans do. One losing record does not mean we are a dumpster fire. I never said it doesn't mean Petrino needs another year. He doesn't, at all.

And btw, most Coordinators want to be a HC. With Venables, this would be a stepping stone job imo. Brohm, it'd be home if he wins.

Here is his credentials:

From 1999 to 2011, Venables coached at the University of Oklahoma, where he served as associate head coach, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Sooners under head coach Bob Stoops.

2012 Venables accepted the position of defensive coordinator at Clemson, where his salary was expected to be between $750,000 and $1 million.

On December 6, 2016, Venables was named the winner of the 2016 Broyles Award for the nation's top assistant coach.

Clemson Diehards reported on December 6, 2017, that Venables was the second-highest paid assistant football coach in college football this year, receiving $1.7 million from Clemson. The only coach in this category receiving more money was Dave Aranda of LSU, who is paid $1.8 million.

It looks like we could get him 3.5 to 4.5 million. If cannot get Brohm.

OK, then exactly what is UofL football right now if not a dumpster fire? I hate saying that take but as stupid as you think it is, it is the truth at the moment. I understand that is what coaches do, and I would be fine with Venables but like you said, the job would be a stepping stone job for him. Brohm is the better choice just because he wouldn't leave and he will win. I'm sure of it.

This could be a good transition toward Brohm. Venebles gives us three years, builds a winner, and moves on to one of the big boys. Brohm gets five years to build Purdue, and then comes home when Venebles leaves. Takes care of some of the money issues, as well as the appearance of job hopping. Might work out ok.

Venables is a perfect fit. He is aggressive and we need defense. We have the talent on offense, but we need to get that defense together. Venables knows the conference. His knowledge could get us a few wins right off the bat. He doesn’t have to do research. He has been doing that for years. Brohm is great. He needs to do more in my opinion. A couple good wins at Purdue, and he’s the best we can get? I love the hometown kid, but we can do better.

Venables flatly would not leave. He is the highest paid assistant in the country, lives on the lake and his $$ goes far in Clemson, not to mention his son is on the team. He has been mentioned before @ other places, but quite simply loves where he is right now and will likely leave to go home to be the head coach ( KSU ).
I think Brohm is your guy. It would be a great hire for all the reasons mentioned in other posts. Has an electric offense which would create excitement overnight for your fan base. I am not sure how much $$$ he would command to come with the other $$ you may have tied up.

He’s my second choice behind Brohm.

Ok....so he wouldn’t leave Clemson to take a HC job that would pay him twice as much because he lives on a lake and Clemson is a cheap place to live and his son is third on the depth chart? Yeah...that makes perfect sense. I hope you’re not his agent!!

The dumpster fire was induced by poor coaching and it’s not a long term fix. It’s still a great opportunity. It’s not like we’ve had years of poor seasons. Having said that I don’t see him leaving Clemson

I just don’t think any assistant coach/coordinator’s career goal is to remain an assistant coach/coordinator. If it is, I would sincerely question that coach’s confidence in his own abilities.

The best time to take over as a head coach is when the school you’re going to is a dumpster fire. There is no pressure at all and the administration and the fan base give you plenty of time to build something. I would love to have Brohm first but if he is not interested then Venables would be great. Louisville has already proven it is a program that can win big.

Sorry, I don't see any way Venables could run a program. He is too emotionally invested in his defense during games. The guy is locked in and would have a really hard time being a CEO type. I couldn't imagine him giving up totally control of his defense, he'll he can't even control himself he has to have a pull back guy during games. He is a perfect assistant coach, he is loyal, dedicated, driven and completely comfortable with his assistant coach status. He has made Swinney the success he is today because he provides him a great defense with Swinney's offensive mind.

We would be a dumpster fire if and only if everything of value was in the dumpster and was burning to the ground, leaving us to rebuild the program from scratch.

That is not this situation. Not by a long shot.

Well he’s had opportunities to go to some SEC schools for more money and turn them down. You have to come up with a better reason why he would leave to coach at U of L especially in lieu of where the program is now and what Clemson is doing.

I do disagree with this post. I like Veneables passion and I believe he’d hire an OC that would project the same way he does his defense. He was running his defense with a big lead on us because his boss told him to do that. Got no problem with that.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

UL is ripe for a good coach to come in and make an instant splash. Any improvement next year would be viewed as success which would put the new coach on great footing. And again, any assistant coach worth his current high pay status has to feel he’s earned the right to be a HC. And, the reasoning behind my post is that a home on a lake and good pay wouldn’t/shouldn’t deter an assistant’s goal of becoming a head coach.
