11/27/21 BAHAMAS TOURNAMENT FINALS- LOUISVILLE VS MARYLAND GAME THREAD- 10:00 AM CBS SPORTS NETWORK

Cards will need to tighten up the careless turnovers and Locke and Cross can't have another bad game.

I really like Faulkner and Ellis in this match-up. I think their quickness will lead to open shots. Sam on the other hand doesn't have a good match-up against Maryland's Scott and Hart. I like Withers and Malik against Wahab.

I think the Cards defense will be tougher for the Terps than vice versa. Richmond could get any shot it wanted and only lost because Hart had a career game.

I like the Cards in this one. I was pretty sure they would play harder against the big name schools and look less disjointed. The depth advantage is huge over Maryland's and the Cards will hold them off in the 2nd half.

Louisville 73
Maryland 68

One important key in taking advantage of superior depth is identifying the teammate who is hot offensively. Cross recognized it early on, and it was evident that he avoided forcing his offense after missing those early looks; regrettably Locke continued forcing his offense despite his struggling to finish.

Locke needs to understand that his responsibility with handling the ball so much, he can be just as effective dishing off as he can be shooting the ball. He draws a lot of the opponents defensive attention, and he needs to be looking for his open teammates.

Got to be the early morning start for all these turnovers. Both teams. Some of the most careless turnovers I've ever seen, almost like a scrimmage game.

Is there a reason to start the championship game so early? The consolation game gets the afternoon start. Makes no sense.

Two reasons, football and there is some type of convention in that same room this afternoon.

Playing a whole lot better now I think Williams settled everyone down plus his leadership, defense, rebounding and scoring underneath also helped.

I'm listening to the game on the UofL app and it has to be the worst commentary I've ever heard. Reece Gaines and this other guy are awful. Reece's inexperience really shows up and that other guy sounds like a high school cheer leader.

Jody the other guy .

This team is getting better rebounding . The three main glaring thing's that i'm sure Mack will be harping on . Their quick/bad shot selection, Ft. Shooting and turnovers.

@ half Cards have 28 rebounds Terps 12.

If Louisville can just hit some shots in 2nd half they may be in good shape, but just not able to hit much in first half.

Needed to close out the half much better didn't a score a fg for over 3 plus minutes . It's the little things that's holding them back. And their mental focus. Malik is showing a breakthrough mentally and physically today that's great too see because they need him.

Malik is the reason the Cards have the lead but it took its toll. He wasn't limping as he was leaving the court at halftime but he was feeling some pain.

Need more minutes out of Wheeler/Perry, especially in these quick turnaround games.

Cross just can't get an open 3 point shot. He rushed the airball and is frustrated, but he rebounds and plays smart. Sam still struggles with his ball handling and Withers hangs out on the perimeter too much.

It's going to be very interesting once Mack is back and how he deals with the turnovers and bad shots.

Right on! But I think in order it is turnovers, FT shooting and shot selection. They seemed to start off more deliberate but offense became stagnant.

2-14 from 3 pt line. Cards have limitations offensively but they can shoot it better than that. Hope they do in the 2nd half.
I listened to coach Davenport comment on the team and Mack. He stated the one positive thing about Mack not being around. Is he gets to see the team from the same advantage point as a fan. And that even though you as the coach know everything about each player from practice. Watching them from another perspective will make him be able to critique them much better and hopefully correct theirdefeciencies.

I think shot selection is the biggest thing. Its almost like guys are just wanting to jack it up there instead of getting a shot in rhythm out of the offense. I know that sounds cliche as hell but it sure applies in this game.

What happened to Traynor? Did I miss something with him?
No inside info here, just my opinion. I think JJ just hasn't put in enough effort in practice and the coaches are trying to motivate him.

He may be one of those kids who are just not as dedicated to playing basketball as their stature would suggest. There's been plenty of guys throughout history that played basketball due to their height and coordination, but it wasn't something that was their dream.

It's tough to really go all in with effort when there's a bunch of guys at your position who are hungrier. JJ Traynor is the son of a basketball player and playing the game may be a expectation that the young man isn't 100 percent dedicated to?

Playing is a means to an end. A free education. But I could be way off but that's my take on why he isn't playing.

I just need them to pull this game out at all cost. So we star today off good . A loss will sour me going into the FB game tonite.

Not liking these ref's whatsoever! And the Cards are playing lethargic at the moment .Their mental approach from a BB standpoint really needs working on Mack going to have his work cut out..

JJ has a skillset but it is possible he is just not as good as the guys playing ahead of him. Without being at practices it's hard to guess on if it's practice habits or other players are better. 11 in the rotation and that's very hard for those 11 to get a groove obviously if it's 12 it's even more difficult.

I have to believe at some point either due to injury or coach decision JJ gets an opportunity. But no clue if something is actually "going on" with him and his PT.

These scoring droughts are going to do them in. Seems like they running out of energy. Don't know what to do with myself at the moment i don't drink before noon. So i guess ill just stop watching.

Turnovers. For as good as the rebounding has been, it's been negated by the turnovers. These are careless, unattentive turnovers.

It’s been kept under wraps why JJ Traynor is sitting the bench. Reason could be medical or DGAS attitude. I know sitting behind the bench vs Navy, the kid needs meat on those bones in a bad way and that could be medical.

In the first half when we were doing this we had to get the transition game going and I think we need to get it going again. This game has been a game of runs by both teams I hope we have our run coming.

Just terrible shot selection and that leads to drought mode. We should post Wheeler or Perry. We need some paint points.

45-23 Reb edge down 3. Some stats are just crazy. Cards just don't have enough firepower. Maybe things get better as season rolls along and Mack returns. I like the D overall they are trying just not much in the barn.

So early in the year, you don't get a rebound advantage like this without playing hard. There are some things to like about this team.
