Is UofL sports cursed?

It's truly unbelievable how the fortunes of the main sports teams at UofL are currently struggling to win.

With the latest debacle with the women's team losing in the first round after having a 16 point lead at the end of the first quarter, Coach Walz must be thinking to himself not to do that again with the portal.

Of course the men were handicapped by an amateur coach following seasons of being handicapped by a immature coach.

The baseball program is barely a shadow of its former self, with pitchers who can't control the strike zone and defenders who struggle to catch or throw the ball. Unlike Walz, McDonnell hasn't used the portal that much, but in his case he should have.

Even the football team with the savior head coach Jeff Brohm, ended the season on a three game losing streak, losing to UK again, a 3rd string QB with FSU and to USC in the bowl game where they made another 3rd string QB look like Tom Brady.

As a Cards fan I feel like shit after the end of the season for each one of these teams, even with the baseball team still having games to play. Don't have much confidence they will make the tournament this season.

But like most fans, there's always hope it will turn around. Next season looks promising for football at least. There's no telling what will happen with men's basketball but the women should get back to normal with a great recruiting class. The baseball program is getting close to a moment of truth with McDonnell. I tend to believe he will get the team back to where it belongs, but I'm starting to wonder.

Is the University of Louisville cursed? With such strong and successful coaching, why has it been so hard to win the past two years?

Cards fans I hope you are excited for the future under CPK! He has been taking over the nation with his transfer portal moves and we are currently ranked as the top class this offseason. Keep up the support of the program and of the 502Circle Collective so we can continue this growth. We cannot thank you all enough for the increasing support daily. The reviVILLE is here and you do not want to be missing out!

BB RECRUITING: Visitor this weekend

Khani Rooths is expected on campus this weekend at Louisville for a visit, a source tells me.

Most recent scouting update from Rivals:

“The Michigan signee showed why Juwan Howard and the Wolverines are so excited to have him in Ann Arbor next season. At 6-foot-8, his ability to play and defend all five positions made him invaluable and immensely effective all over the floor. Rooths best game was in a win over CIA where he posted 19 points, including 8 of 10 from the field, and six rebounds.“

Explanation for decline

There is so much blame and criticism of Dan and his staff by fans, some of which I have contributed to as well. Without having any evidence to support my suspicion; it may be as simple as UL having insufficient financial support to participate in the Portal. The common denominator in the decline in UL Baseball seems to be largely the Covid interruption, followed by NIL and the Transfer Portal.

Some believe that Dan has been warm at best to the Portal, but I wonder if it’s more about not having the funds to attract the level of talent through NIL and Portal to compete with the ACC and SEC schools who appear to covet college baseball more than UL?
