Don’t tell me officiating doesn’t make a difference

Your post is a good example. As a coach of youth sports, I tell my players there are two outcomes, those that you have control over and those that you don't. We don't have control over what the referees or umpires do but we do have control over execution. Both can have the same results or effect. Getting upset over the one you can't control is wasted energy. Understanding what the issue was about the 2nd is about coaching, correcting mistakes and getting better.
What does being upset have to do with anything? Fact is fact. I coached high school football btw.

Shough gets sacked by a 3 MAN rush with Louisville 1st and 10 inside the SMU 35 yard line. 2 and 22 Shough throws into the end zone were Brooks was held making him dive for what would have been a great catch for a TD. Still catchable, but like the color commentator said “If Brooks hadn’t had been held it would have been an easy TD.” To the poster above, that was the commentator’s words not mine. Louisville ends up punting missing a sure scoring opportunity.

3-5 in last 8, and barely beat GT at that.

Uhhhh, Purdue has gone to shit for 2 reasons, 1) Brohm did us no favors and quit recruiting the last 1 1/2-2 years cause he knew he would bolt for ul (Purdue was only avg with him) 2) hired a rookie coach whose is in over his head currently.
There was no way for Brohm to know that UofL job was about to be open. Brohm would’ve filled holes via portal. You guys would take him back in a hot second.

Disorganized and dispassionate

Unfortunately you can’t simplify things when teams are doing all the pre snap motion. What puzzles me is how you can all of sudden shut receivers down in the 4th quarter but couldn’t for the first three? I don’t get it?
You can simplify by not constantly rotating in new personnel. Pre-snap motion is just noise to confuse a defense that is late getting calls and/or personnel in.

Ty, what's the deal with Dave Lackford?

I had assumed he was let go since he never posts here, and his posts are no longer pinned to the top of the boards, but his Twitter bio still lists him as a recruiting analyst for Cardinal Sports. The main reason I ask is because, for whatever reason, all he does on Twitter is be a straight-up asshole to fans. He antagonizes and talks smack about UofL every chance he gets, so I thought it was weird. I thought he was fired, and that's why he was acting so childish online.

The guy's an adult with a law degree, and at one point, he gave out his home address so he could fight someone. It's just a weird downward spiral. I liked his presence on here when he was providing info and interacting with fans, but I assume he's butt hurt, and the new staff didn't like him/or he can't get any info out of the new staff.

@Ty Spalding

My concerns

I like JB as our coach but how can he not see who the hot player is throughout a game? When we got down in SMU territory 3 times in the last quarter he hardly ran Issac Brown, if he did at all? When something is working why would you ever go away from it? The excuse is “Well, they gave us a certain look that led to the plays we called” crap. Brown only rushed 10 x for 117 yards. That’s criminal imo. Some of his play calls in crucial moments along with selected personal is mind boggling.

Now the Offensive line. If the coach isn’t going to teach them how to pass block then Brohm needs to replace the coach.

Now the Defensive secondary. If the coach isn't going to teach them how to cover then Brohm needs to replace the coach.

Now the defense as a whole. If the Defensive Coordinator can’t have them ready and set for plays, and they give up that kind of yardage to SMU then Brohm needs to replace the defensive coordinator.

If you want to make it to the playoffs you can’t keep carrying your friends along.
You can't point fingers everywhere without looking in the mirror. Now its commendable to say "I take full responsibility, which is as the Head Coach is stating Mr. Obvious, its what you do to correct the issues that speaks the loudest....

Don’t tell me officiating doesn’t make a difference

Rewatching the game right now and the unnecessary roughness call with the game tied at 7 was critical to the outcome.

Absolutely horrendous call by the referee (who by the way) are never held accountable for the damage they do to a game. And before anyone starts crying, these officials are supposed to be professionals at their job and understand the game completely. It would have been 3rd down and 11 at the Louisville 44. And before you say that SMU would have gotten the 1st down (because frustration makes for ill advised comments) it may have ended up in a punt or long field goal attempt instead of a touchdown.

The 3rd down play for Louisville that led to a Travelstead field goal, SMU had 6 blitzing to Louisville’s 5 O-Linemen. Shough was hurried on the throw but had a TE open sitting down in the middle where the LB’s had vacated and had a wide open touchdown down the right sideline but tried to force it into ABH on the out pattern.

I continue to post as I continue to rewatch the game.

The natives are getting restless…..

Count me in as a native getting restless but maybe not Chicken Little... yet. It is evident we have two main issues, OL and DL. Those are not just simple scheme or playing the right guys issue. We have already had a bye week to figure things out, having games every weekend doesn't allow you the opportunity to "fix things" as you prepare for your next opponent. Its usually not something where you demote one coach and promote another on staff. The answer is probably that coach is somewhere else and yes, I'm talking about the defense. Look we just didn't have issues with the OL just with ND and SMU, they have been there all season long. its just that we had enough fire power to beat the weaker teams. We have a QB who has a history of staying healthy and yet people want him to take off and run??? We can't use our TE's as receivers because we need them to block. When teams rushing only 4 are getting to your QB, thats a problem. On the DL, I have said this all season, where are the sacks, hurries, interceptions, fumble recoveries? For us to get pressure, we have to rush more than 4 which leaves our secondary in man to man situations. Against SMU, our defense never seemed to get lined up. Did we not scout them? Yes, it does sound a little bit like Chicken Little.. I just hope I'm wrong.
