Don’t tell me officiating doesn’t make a difference

It's always the same shit with these admissions of officiating mistakes. It means absolutely nothing. And for the most part there is nothing that can really be done, but this was a replay mistake, not some call on a live play.

They had 5 minutes to do the right thing, whoever the official was who made the final decision, but for some reason they went against the basic tenant of the replay rules. The call on the field stands if it's not obvious on the replay.

So someone should be held accountable and that someone should be known. An explanation should be forthcoming and not this it was a mistake. The ACC should be doing something about the officials they employ. Virginia Tech was screwed even worse by replay so its not just Louisville even though the Cards have had more "mistakes" against them than any other.

Yeah however had it been any other coach that had the Karen situation they been fired. As Rick should have been let go . That's always going to be a debate as it was a moral issue not NCAA. But i'm pretty darn sure as with every university employee any infraction that brings embarrassment . Is a fireable offense.
I just never understood the angst with some Cards fans about Pitino's affair the very first year he was UofL's coach. His marriage issues predated his hiring at UofL. It wasn't like Pitino was some playboy messing around on his wife because he could.

And if he hadn't been extorted by the crazy woman no one would have ever known of his infidelity. He could have paid her and avoided the embarrassment, but he chose to do the right thing.

And the reality is Pitino wasn't just some University employee. He was hired to do a specific job that would make the school a lot of money and sustain the excellence of the men's basketball program. The circumstances of his behavior was relevant and his history of such behavior was non existent. Now had this happened 3 or 4 years into his tenure here, there may have been a different outcome.

Football thoughts - Re-Watched the SMU Game

Being self-employed means, I can watch YOUTUBE replays when I have a light day! So I watched the games and here are my thoughts

I watched the game again.

1. I'm not as worried about our offense long-term, Brooks might be the best wideout I've seen as a Cardinal. I'll put him above Devante Parker and that's saying something. There was an early TD he dove for and just dropped and one on the last drive that would've tied the game. He's a special player. I will say, if Brooks was injured then idk if we'd have a winning record. That's where the Devante comparison comes, he can just change a game with one play. We need to appreciate him.

2. We are a little too deep ball reliant, seems like Shough isn't as comfortable with the check downs and tight-ends early on. Turner's injury has changed the direction of things. Jeff just seems like he's a bit off with everyone, which is something that happens when you bring in an entirely new group. You can teach them plays, but the guys have to know each other too in terms of where the like the ball and where others will be.

3. The OL is what it is at this point, I think longterm I'd like to see it build more with multi-year pieces. I think it will get better, but it's a bad time for struggles during this tough stretch. Would've been great for us to have played SMU week 3 and had the bye week this week before the Miami and Clemson stretch.

4. I'm not sure about the defense. Where I compared Brooks to Devante, I compare Quincy Riley to Jaire Alexander in terms of what we're missing with him out. Remember how bad the defense was when we didn't have Jaire, but then it all turned around the second he returned in 2017? I just look at the group as a lot of pieces, but I don't see anything special.

5. Ashton has really disappointed me, but teams saw his film from the last 2 years and now they will not overlook him. I'll point this out
-2023 games 2-10 (9 games) he had 13 Tackles for a loss, 10 sacks
-2023 last 4 games he only had 1.5 tackles for loss, had none against Miami, FSU, and USC, 1 sack against Kentucky
-2024 in 5 games this year, he only has 1.5 tackles and 1 sack for loss and they all came against Austin Peay

In his last 9 games only 3 tackles for a loss (2 sacks) compared to 13 (10 sacks) in the 9 games before it, and only 1.5 (1 sack) in his last 8 games against Power 4 competition, which Kentucky has a terrible offensive line is who he got them against. That is a concerning trend for Ashton.

6. We assumed we had the best pass rusher and corner in the ACC, 2 game changers. But Quincy has been hurt and Ashton hasn't been playing well. We do not have a single Interception or Sack from either of those guys against a Power Conference opponent this year. Now Quincy is hurt, that's not his fault. But that's a big issues when your 2 game changers aren't changing the game. The one game-changing play was Quincy's forced fumble against Georgia Tech, and guess what??? That won us the game.

I think this team is a bit better than last, but last year we had a pretty light start to the year. We had some good luck too, because we easily could have lost to GT, IU, & NC State and would've been 2-3 or 3-2 going into that ND game. This year we didn't have the benefit of playing some lighter teams, we got Notre Dame earlier and then SMU a week later. We also have had injuries to Quincy, Turner, and Lacy too, so the injury bug didn't go our way. Last year's team having the line and run game to lean on was an easier transition, but this year we're still developing that identity.

I feel better about things. We can go out and beat the crap out of Virginia and get some momentum. Then come home healthier and ready to prove something against a Miami team that isn't as good as we thought. Then take it to BC and go into Clemson with nothing to lose. IDK what will happen, but I'm not as down. But this is a key stretch and this is a key year. I don't think next year the team will have this combo of proven talent and incoming talent, so we need to maximize it. It's been sloppy, that's on the staff. Get it fixed or he faces the same heat Satt did, that's only fair.

LETS GO CARDS!

We all knew Pitino was a UK homer when he was hired here. Most of us was shocked when Jurich announced he was seeking Pitino for the job. I wasn't that keen on the idea just because he had coached UK, but I knew UofL needed what he would bring after the end of the Crum era.

And he did exactly what we all wanted. We played a fast and fun style, and got back to elite 8's, final 4's and a national title. The program had pizazz again and I personally didn't care anymore that he coached at UK.

Everything was grand until Andre McGee. Before that dipshit, the program under Pitino had no NCAA infractions while programs all around the game did. However, as we again all know, Pitino, having just won his 2nd title and being selected for the Hall of Fame, he let his guard down and delegated and trusted in his former players a bit naively.

Most Cards fans I know believe what Luke Hancock says about the scandal, which is that those people on the team that knew of the parties, didn't want to bring the wrath of Pitino and jeopardize the teams championship chances. Everything in Pitino's past suggested he would never allow major infractions.

However, the sordid details of the parties and the media backlash was to forever change the perception of Pitino from not only fans but of his peers in the world of college basketball. He continued on coaching despite being double crossed by the people hired to mitigate any sanctions and he soon discovered he was going to be scrutinized for every little thing until eventually the FBI of all people, used his notoriety to push it's probe into college basketball malfeasance.

UofL, for whatever reason and there's several opinions, decided to rid both Pitino and Jurich despite knowing that Pitino was not one of the coaches the FBI had the goods on. And everything after that is what led Pitino to his disdain for the UofL basketball program today. He also probably was disappointed in the amount of Cards fans who voice their hatred of him.

So it's a natural thing for him to go back to being a UK homer, especially after Mark Pope was hired.

I believe Pitino one day hopes to be back in the Cards good graces, but if it doesn't happen, so be it. The fact is Louisville needed him more than he needed UofL, and I think we all have to admit had Jurich hired someone else, this stretch of okay to bad basketball would have started a lot sooner than it did.
Yeah however had it been any other coach that had the Karen situation they been fired. As Rick should have been let go . That's always going to be a debate as it was a moral issue not NCAA. 1 year head coach brings over half of his very successful roster from JMU and Indiana has played a cake walk schedule… was Cignetti magically supposed to put together a the 24’ class for Indiana when he wasn’t there? Portal was his only option. You can now look at the emphasis on HS recruiting from him though! But you wouldn’t do that, right? Regardless.. you are using 1 teams success to explain what the 65 other P4 teams are doing? Nice work. Keep beating the “you can only utilize one or the other drum.”Right.

I mean if beating: FIE, Western Illinois, Charlotte, UCLA, MAryland, and Northwestern is the goal and getting 6-7 wins yearly, then that's good for us if it's the goal. We need to evaluate if fully transfer portal roster building is how to build an ACC champion. People don't need to move the goal posts. We brought in Brohm to be better than Satt and take the next step, so maybe he can do it in the portal every year if just being good enough it the goal, but we want more and expect more.
