Something in the Water?

Maybe there’s something in the water here. Maybe it’s memory decline due to aging or maybe the recent explosions and fires in Louisville have released chemicals in the air that are negatively affecting the recall abilities of our coaches. Whatever it is, coaches Kelsey, Brohm and Walz have all forgotten how to coach this past week. We can only hope than new advances in memory care are on the horizon.

We give Jeff another year. That’s all.

Oh I think the revolt is underway already. We have a tailgate group text with around 30 people in and the they all had the pitchforks out lastnight. He can save some grace by winning out but if he doesn't and we get pounded by a weak ass ky team we will start next season with an empty stadium..
Just curious who would you replace him with?

He is not going anywhere, but he is going to have to figure out his defensive philosophy.

We give Jeff another year. That’s all.

He needs to win out or there will be a revolt, I don’t care what his last name is. Total crap.

Pittsburgh game time ???

Despite the disappointing and humiliating loss yesterday, the Pitt game remains critical to a Bowl opportunity and getting some momentum back for UK.

Card X, I feel your pain and understand the frustration that you are expressing about Brohm and this UL football team ….. but look around the college football scene, as just yesterday you will see things like #6 BYU losing to lowly Kansas, or Pitt giving up a KO Return for a Clemson go ahead TD with 1 minute to go.

#1 Oregon was lucky to survive 5-5 Wisconsin. If we beat UK ….. all will be forgiven!
Bowl opportunity? What bowl opportunity? We have relegated ourselves to a mid level bowl game that most of our, as well as our opponents, players will opt out of.

LOUISVILLE VS STANFORD GAME THREAD

The season is toast and right now we have only a win against KY to hope for. Any decent bowl destination is off the table and most players will opt out anyway. Brohm needs a new OC and DC. He’s trying to do it all himself. Just look at Oregon to see what an effective head coach can be when he surrounds himself with good coordinators. If Jeff want to be an OC then he should go be one. But if he wants to be a head coach then he needs to learn to lead and trust others.

This has to happen or ticket sales will plummet and NIL will dry up.

Losing that game yesterday was not an option. The fanbase hase endured enough. Brohm has to quit coaching like he's in the arena football league.

We the fans need something to cling to, football was supposed to be it. It's not. We could easily be undefeated right now, we have that kind of talent. Losing as a 21 pt favorite is inexcusable.. Better win out if he wants to be the native son at his alma mater...

Not to pile on, but it struck me that Brohm's loss yesterday was very much like Mario Cristobal's loss last year to Georgia Tech. Although the series of events that we committed to allow Stanford to win on a 52-yard FG may make OUR loss worse than Cristobal's. Regardless they're both examples of serious coaching malfeasance.

And ... with as much fun as I had marinating in that epic Miami loss, clearly, KARMA showed up for me in a big way.

We give Jeff another year. That’s all.

During the 4th quarter of our win at Clemson, I remarked that Brohm’s decision to go conservative and “run the clock” may be following the old textbook that was used 20 years ago. However, the game as evolved significantly and letting off the accelerator only gives the opponent a huge advantage when trying to make up a couple of TDs.

In fairness, the defensive penalties certainly gave Stanford a boost, but I believe Brohm going conservative offensively in the third and fourth quarter contributed to Stanford’s ability to come back, just as Clemson did. Running the football on 1st and 2nd down puts a lot of pressure on Shough and our receivers to complete a pass on 3rd down to sustain the series. We did that successfully several times, until we didn’t ……… giving the ball back to the opponent, who will most assuredly use all 4 downs, is just an invitation to help them have a chance to get back in the game.

I have no interest in talking about a coaching change, despite these unexpected and humiliating upsets like yesterday. Personally, I believe that Jeff needs to learn a lesson here …….. don’t let off the offensive accelerator when ahead. Shough was picking Stanford’s secondary apart, and we should have added to the 15 point advantage, rather than going conservative when trying to eat up the clock.
Yeah, you could see the results of this BS approach in the 4th Qtr of the Clemson game. Terrible offensive strategy. Bad bad coaching.

Mayo's Musings from yesterday's cluster.....

One thing about the defense that I have no idea about is - what is their identity and frankly what kind of defense does Brohm want them to run? For instance when we had Lamar, we also had Todd Grantham as DC. Love him or hate him he ran a defense that complimented the offense. Petrino wanted the ball as much as possible so the very aggressive defense Grantham ran fit with what Petrino wanted. Yes we would get burned by his blitzes sometimes but it also created a defense that was a turnover making machine - Gerod Holliman led the nation in INTs. I have no idea what we are currently trying to achieve on defense. There is no identity. They have trouble getting the signals in. They don’t force turnovers. Three penalties overturned two turnovers and a stop on a two point conversion - any of which likely seals the game.
