Will Wade Being Considered?

Have had more than one person from Louisianna text me and say "You need to make a run at Will Wade ASAP". My only reply was that given our recent history we just couldn't take a chance on a guy with an infraction. Does JH feel the same?
All early indications pointed to no. But maybe Heirds outlook has changed after the Dusty fiasco. It's all over Twitter right now that Wade may be considered for UofL.

Shortly after firing Kenny Payne, Heird stated publicly that he wanted to hire a coach willing to crawl to Louisville for the job. I have it on impeccable authority that McNeese State coach Will Wade would crawl through hot lava to be Louisville’s next coach.

I don't think his previous infraction should matter much at all. That was pre NIL and why would someone continue to break rules after getting an elite job?

Heird should ask about it but in no way should he not consider him due to it. Would he listen to Houston's Kelvin Sampson if he was interested in UofL? He only was suspended after his infractions at Indiana.

I say we hire the best coach we can and not let former infractions matter unless they were severe.

C'mon you guys are getting desperate. Wade's show-cause penalty will run from June 22, 2023, to June 21, 2025.

Please watch HBO's replay of the "The Scheme" and tell me if we can risk another coach with suspect background.

Get him! Yes, some national pundits would make a whole thing about the hire and some local pious fans/supports would get their panties in a wad until he starts winning. Josh would take heat. All that goes away soon enough while we could end up with a great hire.

I don’t believe we will go down that road and it’s unfortunate because Wade is super talented and would be a perfect fit here. He would immediately fire up the fanbase and win games .

His excuse for offering money to recruits is that the federal probe ruined a lot of people’s lives for very little (sound familiar?) and that with the NIL, paying players is standard business now. It wasn’t then though and even though he may have learned his lesson, he doesn’t talk like it.

I think this rumor got started by some wishful thinkers on social media that want Josh gone. We’ll see soon enough.

He probably would. Wade does not want exile in the nothings of CFB. He wants to be at a program that matters.

Of course he'll crawl. WW is radioactive. I doubt most schools would give him a second thought.

But we're not most schools. We're scraping the bottom of the barrel...

Personally, I think Will is a risky, but necessary hire right now.

Let’s say we play it safe with him Indiana state or college of Charleston head coach. I just don’t see that moving the needle up enough to matter.

Let’s say we hire will Wade, and he flames out. Well our program is already screwed after what KP did, that it really couldn’t get much worse. But on the flip side, Wade could move the needle A LOT if the gamble pays off.

Right now we are at the casino down 100k, we can’t bet 1,000 on a mediocre coach to get our loses back. We need bet 100k and get our money back quickly before the sharks eat us. Yeah we could lose, but we are already dead in the water.

Just my opinion of course

It doesn’t matter if show cause penalty runs until 2025 I seriously doubt whoever takes the job will be able to get us in the tournament before then anyway.

If I read the show-cause correctly, Wade would be suspended for the first 10 games this coming season if he were hired at Louisville. As we saw with Payne, that's the most important period, where people either stay with you or jump ship (the Titanic). We can't afford for the coach to miss that period and then try to get people back on board if the start goes bad, with the sad excuse that would be used being that he was unable to coach so please give the program yet another chance.

Wade has to be a no go at this time.

There's been some confusion about the 10 game suspension among fans in regards to the wording.

Does "any" mean "every" D1 job he would have to sit out 10 games? If not, he already sat out 10 for McNeese State. If he does have to sit out 10 games if hired here then that's a huge obstacle to overlook.

Makes sense. All the scuttlebutt about Wade seemed to come from Heird hater Mike Hughes and a schmUcK site called “Nationofblue” lol.

You would think that they would realize with NIL you no longer would have to worry about the same violations.

I be agree that’s not ideal but, they’re not hiring a guy for 10 games - they’re trying to hire someone who be successful for 10 years.

Right now if they tossed the ball up - I don’t think we have anyone in the circle. Give me the best coach period. DGAF about the first 10 games.

Not sure it’s as much about violations as it is character. More fundamental than understanding a rule…
Lol - you think Wade’s character is somehow more lacking than the individual you’ve chosen as your avatar? How about your situation over there - you know, the one that got you sued and forced to return property. Was that a character issue on your part or a lack of “understanding a rule”?

Anything, and I do mean ANYTHING to attempt to shit on UofL.

Pathetic…

it's too bad that Heird won't budge on Wade.
a good legal contract can minimize risk to the school.

Kelsey was an assistant under Mack. does anyone know if his style is different than Mack's?
Sadly, optics is the issue and based on Louisville’s current culture and sensitivity to all things not holy, it’s a bridge too far to cross for certain groups of individuals. This is a business and sometimes you have to take risks and like anything in life money and winning cure ALL ill dispositions. This musical chair of coaches will start to make the university look silly the longer this continues.

Be interesting to know what role the BOT is playing in this search. Not that I think they’re actively involved in this part of the process but, what marching orders did they lay out regarding who could or could not be considered / hired.

I certainly don’t believe for a second that they’re interested in the best basketball coach - the whole “scandal averse” is simply code for “safety first”, with winning a distant second.

Plus, the whole notion of scandal is a bit silly. As we saw with the May - death threat thing - “scandal” can be created completely out of thin air depending upon who’s controlling the narrative.

Strange- Bobby’s character didn’t matter. I guess there’s a special exemption depending on who hires you.
I'm not making the hire, I'm commenting on the analysis someone else would perform.

And IMO, there's a distinction between job-related and unrelated issues. The latter is a slippery slope. Whether someone would cheat to excel at his job is more clear cut...

Wade was 22-2 last season, with his only losses to a sweet 16 Gonzaga and 3 pt loss to Southern Miss. After December this year all of those show clause penalties essentially go away. We need to think long term on this one.

I bet UK won't hesitate to hire Beard or Wade when the time comes.
After claiming Calimari would be caught cheating some way or somehow for 15 years and nothing even close to a scandal, I daresay they can probably protect Beard or Wade if needed. In that same time span we have had 3 HCs and 2 interim HCs.

You can only recruit to and win against where you are. At Winthrop, Kelsey was in a 1 bid league, meaning you must focus all year on winning that tournament. He did that 3 times in 9 seasons. IN addition, he won at least 20 games 2 other seasons. At Charleston, also in a 1 bid league, he has won 2 of 3 tournaments, with teams that won 27 and 31 games.

As he is from Cincinnati and played at Xavier, he knows the region well.

He has only 1 losing season (14-17) his first year as HC.

He could be a hidden gem.

He ain't all that clueless. For anyone who wants to do their own research picked these up from a quick check on the Indiana court webpage with a call to an old attorney friend.

10C02-1208-PL-000088 This is the much talked about condo case from Zipp's past.

10C02-1707- SC- 001033 Zipp sues a retired marine and his elementary school teacher wife a year after closing documents were signed by both parties on one of his former rental units at the condo. He lost.

10D03-1101- IF-026649 ( and 50) The guy doesn't think traffic signals and seatbelt laws apply to him.
