It does not work that way …..the BoT seldom engages in the daily decisions and activities of the University, It is true the President answers to the BoT, just like the AD answers to the President, and the HCs answer to the AD., and the assistant coaches answer to the HC.
With respect to those sight-challenged; even a blind person can see that Neeli violated one of the primary rules of Management when she dismissed Tyra’s direct line of authority over Mack when issuing her discipline on Mack.
”Making an example” as Card X suggested is absurd. Nothing was gained by humiliating two of the most high profile employees in the University and expecting that and Mack would survive long term under her undermining the chain of command. It not only undermined normal protocol, it sent a message that she had no confidence in Tyra. Neeli over-reacted and if she felt that Mack’s behavior was so bad as to support that level of discipline ….. she should have sat down with Tyra and used her skill to convince Tyra that it was best to terminate Mack with cause. That end result would have proven much more constructive than how this played out, as Tyra would have either accepted Neeli’s wisdom and fired Mack with cause, or he could have refused and resigned immediately.become convinced that Neeli was correct and follow her wisdom, or he could have refused and resigned ……something he did anyway.
X, it is evident that you either have no experience in management leadership, or you simply have not yet experienced a similar situation. Once you.violate the chain of command, you will struggle obtaining respect from those who see it as discounting of their own authority.
