Tongue twister intended.

Per Demling:

Asked if he felt Neeli Bendapudi did anything to de-emphasize athletics, Jeff Walz said: "I think it's a bunch of crap. . . . She has been nothing but wonderful to our program, to our kids. . . . Those out there that want to spin things about how bad she was, no she wasn't."

Blaming Presidents, ADs and sometimes the coaches is often misdirected.

There are issues here in Louisville that are unique, and they make an Urban Mission University like UL in a Commonwealth like KY less than conducive to success.

Neeli had one foot in, and one foot out, as she was coveted by a lot of major Universities, and I am sure she recognized UL is not in a good environment with so many polarizations.

The community here is in conflict with itself, and the subtle and sometimes overt disdain from Frankfort, local media and much of the Commonwealth towards UL makes for a very challenging atmosphere.

I fear we will struggle finding the “right” replacements for both President and AD; there are a lot of political influences that will try to hire transitory candidates who insure UL remains subservient to UK’s best interest.

It is no coincidence that Dr Ramsey and Tom Jurich were as successful as any in their respective roles in advancing UL; yet both were forced out.

I don’t see an issue hiring a quality AD. Every sports program is thriving except for the major two. And our facilities for a school our size are phenomenal.

I love Jeff but I have to disagree with him on this. Mack let’s our coaches practice with the team since we didn’t have enough players due to Covid. All last year I heard announcers covering games talking about a lot of schools doing the same thing. So Neeli suspends Mack for 6 games and wanted to do more. Auburn gets 4 years probation because of rules violation and they suspend their coach 2 games.

All the time Neeli is looking for another job behind everyone’s back, she wasn’t exactly all in with our University. It will be interesting to see how things unfold at Penn State.

Mack didn’t get suspended for the minor infraction. He got suspended for botching the Dino fire and secret recording. It was a violation of university policies and procedures.

Very nice post 233. UOFL has a #2 "position" in a state that places very little emphasis on post HS 1academics.

Peace

Why should the NCAA come down on us for a "violation of university policies" ?

You are correct BK, the action taken against Mack was unnecessary …… it gained nothing from the NCAA, and only resulted in further deterioration between Neeli, Vince and Chris.

Well, Mack did screw up. The 6 game suspension was excessive, but something needed to be done.

The “something” is precisely what separates leaders with wisdom and judgement from those who feel the need to do something.

X: I will concede that Mack’s judgement was flawed, and it needed to be addressed. The excessive punishment only humiliated a school employee, and hurt the kids on the team and UL fans …..not what I would have expected.

Let's put the suspension behind us and pull through this season. If Mack fails then I will be one of the first naming potential candidates - and it won't be Kenny Payne !

Being reprimanded by your employer is not humiliation. Let’s not be overly dramatic. As a high profile employee, he was made an example of, and I’m positive he’ll never mess up that way again. Mack took it like a man. The “kids” are fine. So are the fans. We should move on.

Well stated CardX. I wish a lot more around here would abate their bitching and "move on."

X: and you know all this? I do not know how you or anyone other than maybe his wife, could know how Mack perceived it, but his punishment was humiliating, whether it was humiliating to him or to UL ….. most can judge that for themselves.

Making “an example” of one of those most high profile employees of the entire University? That is about the most ignorant thing I have ever heard.

I talked to a friend of mine who is close friends with Charlie Tyra. He said that VT would never have resigned if he knew Neeli was leaving. The relationship between the 2 of them was not good. I am glad she is gone and now she is Penn State’s problem. I want a President and an AD who understands how important the University of Louisville is to this city.

I’m not sure you know how the real world does things. People are made examples of all the time. And I really don’t care if Mack had his feelings hurt. Everyone needs to toughen up when it comes to business.

Your focus might need to shift towards the BOT. They hired her. She was their eyes and ears. She answered to them. If Neeli and Vince had conflict, and they did, it was by design. BOT calls the shots.

It does not work that way …..the BoT seldom engages in the daily decisions and activities of the University, It is true the President answers to the BoT, just like the AD answers to the President, and the HCs answer to the AD., and the assistant coaches answer to the HC.

With respect to those sight-challenged; even a blind person can see that Neeli violated one of the primary rules of Management when she dismissed Tyra’s direct line of authority over Mack when issuing her discipline on Mack.

”Making an example” as Card X suggested is absurd. Nothing was gained by humiliating two of the most high profile employees in the University and expecting that and Mack would survive long term under her undermining the chain of command. It not only undermined normal protocol, it sent a message that she had no confidence in Tyra. Neeli over-reacted and if she felt that Mack’s behavior was so bad as to support that level of discipline ….. she should have sat down with Tyra and used her skill to convince Tyra that it was best to terminate Mack with cause. That end result would have proven much more constructive than how this played out, as Tyra would have either accepted Neeli’s wisdom and fired Mack with cause, or he could have refused and resigned immediately.become convinced that Neeli was correct and follow her wisdom, or he could have refused and resigned ……something he did anyway.

X, it is evident that you either have no experience in management leadership, or you simply have not yet experienced a similar situation. Once you.violate the chain of command, you will struggle obtaining respect from those who see it as discounting of their own authority.
