Volleyball now #3

With a perfect start (3-0 record, 9-0 in sets) to the season, Louisville Volleyball has moved up from #4 to #3 in the AVCA Coaches poll.

Texas retained the top overall spot with Nebraska close behind in second. Minnesota moved up a spot to #4 and Georgia Tech leapt up several spots to #5. Pitt is the only other ACC school in the Top 25 at #10.

Louisville visits #22 Western Kentucky on Wednesday before coming home to open up the home season against #15 San Diego. San Diego shocked a lot of people by defeating Pitt to start the season.

Raquel Lazaro, a grad transfer from USC. has stepped in nicely for graduated Tori Dilfer and middle blocker is developing nicely with Amaya Tillman, Sydney Schetnan, Cara Creese and Phekran Kong all seeing playing time so far, with the graduation of Anna Stevenson.

Sonja: how would you compare this roster with last year?

As good or better. All the starters from last year that are back now have an extra year of experience, the two starters that graduated have been replaced with as good as or better replacements and the sub list is deep, talented and awesome. We'll see how they do with the tough stretch of: at WKU, then San Diego, Ohio State, Purdue, at Kentucky and at Stanford -- all top 25 programs. If they're still undefeated after that, they're the best team east of the Mississippi River.
