VJ KING...................we need you!!!!!

Anyone waiting for VJ is gonna keep waiting. What you should be hoping for is that nothing emerges on the adidas front.

Another 5-star kid who should have never been recruited...

Another 5-star kid who should have never been recruited...

Remember your "talking point" about Petrino's buy-out?

Nobody complained about that buy-out when it was given to him right?

And nobody complained about recruiting King when he was recruited and signed - you didn't.

Move those credibility goal posts to serve your agendas!

Feel bad for VJ

I do too. He stuck with his commitment to the program during a really tough time, and it just hasn't worked out for him. He put in a lot of effort in the off season to put on weight his game just hasn't come together.

It's hard for a player with his skill-set to contribute in the role he's now in. In theory he should be a 25MPG 2nd/3rd option that can play through mistakes - but he's struggled so much he's forced the staff to reduce his minutes and with that he's pressing and now appears to be a lost cause.

You're 100% wrong about that, and I've been criticized for that position. My comments every time I saw Pitino recruit a blue chip kid... "Is the kid L1C4?" That applies to VJ.

And it's simply experience-based, or at least it was with Pitino. He couldn't get a desire or motivation to be coached outta those kids. They're mostly primadonnas who were overrated for his system. And more recently, they're all tainted with shoe money. It's a double-whammy.

Oh yeah, I've long questioned the wisdom of recruiting all of these kids, not just VJ.
I do too. He stuck with his commitment to the program...
I could $peculate that VJ may have a few good rea$on$ to $tick with hi$ commitment...

Stuck with his commitment? What alternative did he have? At the level he was playing what top D1 program would want him. Now if you want to feel sorry that he believed Mack could come in and make him the stud that he thought (like quite a few fans also thought) then you can feel sorry for him. He did what the coach wanted him to, add more weight and muscle.

He stuck with his commitment prior to playing a single minute for the program. When the program hit the skids he could have jumped ship, he stuck with UofL. I was referencing his time as a HS 5 star recruit when he had a ton of offers.

Shaq Aaron was playing worse and he ended up at a D1 P5 program. 5* recruits will have options no matter what they produce. You live in a phone booth, just oblivious to the landscape. You have no idea what options these guys have. Obviously.

Sorry. When the program hit the skids, his 5 star status was already in question Sufi’s. He signed to play for Pitino or maybe Zi$$ is right about him. And you’re obviously clueless or partied once too often.

IMO that added weight and muscle has affected his long range shooting and his confidence. He is stuck in a tough spot right now as Nwora is playing the 3 and Sutton the 4 and any minutes he gets takes away from those two. He may be another Wayne Blackshear that comes on as a Senior.

I agree that the added weight has maybe affected his shooting ability but I think he had already started losing his confidence. He’s more of a slasher and driver and the added muscle was suppose to help him finish drives. He just needs to decide what kind of player he is. Forget about scoring, just rebound and play defense would be a start.

Totally agree with this. King really needs to figure out how to help the team other than trying to score because that aspect of his game is obviously off right now.

If he can help out in other ways like rebounds, assists, solid defense etc . it would help a lot. But coming in and putting up zeros in every category isn't a good look.

VJ's a head case. Not in a bad sort of way--he actually looks like a pretty good guy. But he was overrated outta high school, and he looks like he's totally psyched himself out of becoming much better. He is what he is at this point, a backup to a better starter. Hopefully, he's doing well in school...

Make up your mind. Is he a pretty good guy or is he the guy you described 2 or 3 posts above when you speculated he took $ to keep his commitment which would be knowingly wrong for him to do?

His confidence was lost well before the weight gain.

He does appear to be overrated coming out of high school. Still hoping the light bulb comes on but at this point he appears to be a dud.

For whatever reason, he is thinking too much and not just playing the game and having fun. A “game” I would imagine he’s been playing for some time.

He’s seems comfortable in his role coming off the bench with spot minutes. He may be relegated to end of the bench garbage minutes next season.

Nothing hypocritical. You're equating the two...they're not. If I was in VJ's shoes and the system paid kids like me, I'd want mine too. I'm not blaming the kids, and I'm not really blaming the shoe guys and agents. They're all working within the system. It's the do-gooders who deserve blame, the guys protecting "amateurism", etc.

This is fodder for another thread, but I ain't blaming VJ for where we are. We shouldn't have recruited the kid. Pitino shouldn't have recruited ANY five star kids irrespective of the risk--he couldn't coach them...

As far as the op,I'd love to see VJ start to do a couple of things...just see where it goes.

First, pull up on the drive and shoot the mid range jumper. You're probably getting an advantage on who's guarding you. It's when you continue on to the rack that your guy gets help and nobody thinks you will pass at that point.

Secondly, pass the ball when the help converges on you. Somebody is open because of you driving it. Make somebody else better by passing it for an easier one. It's there.

Still rooting for you though. As long as you're wearing that Red and Black.

Two VJ King has signing threads were created on the message board years ago. You didn't post in either. No Zipp isms. No Zipp warnings. No post from Zipp! No nothing. You didn't mind. You did not weigh in. If you did, both threads would have gone 2-5 pages like all the threads you participate in go. Didn't happen. Because you didn't really care at the time.

Just like all the Petrino haters of his buy-out didn't care at the time he got it.

Those are free message board threads. But no reason to take my word for it. Travel over to the premium site and check among the regulars whether I complained about Pitino recruiting guys who couldn't succeed in his program. Start a thread there if you dare, and I'll be glad to monitor responses.

While you're there, ask them how much they liked me running "L1C4" up some of their a$$es...

He’s not having fun out there and it’s written all over his face when he plays.

Agreed, his regression is obviously apparent to the coaching staff, and his in game play left them no choice. I’d be interested to see how his practices are going.

Why? I thought you could read his face? Maybe he had gas? Post something intelligent.
Lol rich coming from you. All you do is piggyback off Zipps comments. You can tell he’s not having fun but wanting to know how practices are going is the same thing? Yikes, post less.

If it is as you say it is, these coaches wouldn’t be playing him. Fail!

He’s a 5 star junior who’s a co-captain. Of course they’re still going to play him, but he’s coming off the bench averaging 10-12 mins a game when he was supposed to average close to 30 and start. My lord some of you guys make Louisville look retarded on this board.

You say this silliness as if the list of fails is a mile long. Do you even know how many played here in over a decade? For a historically T10 program nationally?

7! Not 15. Or 20. It's a low #.

It's a short list, per Rivals...

Palacios - Key piece to FF team. Ton of injuries. Still averaged between 9-10 ppg 3 out of 4 yrs.
Clark - Extremely productive career, improved each year. 14&9 his final year.
Caracter - Ok there's one for you. But he only counts as one guy. 1. And we could even debate him - he was productive in uniform, had some real nice games.
Jennings - Mediocre career. Improved each year. But I'll give him to you out of generosity since he was far from great. But another guy that we could debate on.
Samuels - 11&5 full-time starter for overall #1 seed. 15&7 next year.
Chane - 10&7 both years. Key piece to a FF team and title team.
King - Only coached him 1 year but I'll give him to you also.
Bowen - Ok here is really your biggest "win" and a fair talking point.

Edit - Eight 5* if you count Padgett - which, not sure why we wouldn't count him. He was a 5* that played here, multiple years, was productive, could be coached. There was a recruiting process that got him here. He didn't just parachute in without notice.

Saying he couldn't coach ANY 5 star player is just a false narrative. This is what UK fan typically says - so think about who you are agreeing with big guy.

The system the 5 stars played in spread the wealth - not a place for too many guys to get 20 + PPG.

Most these guys played major roles on highly successful teams. Were there a few busts? Sure. Probably on par % wise with how 5 stars do nationally wherever they end up.

You got mad when Bowen burned it down. And that is when you began your crusade. It was 2017. Sure you mentioned L1C4 for years. And it's a fair talking point. But saying he couldn't coach ANY 5 stars is just false.

The Bowen debacle, yeah that was a call for review of the recruiting process - no doubt!!!!! A call to review lots of things!!!

Palacios was the 8th leading scorer on his team as a senior, behind a noteworthy like Andre McGee. That screams Pitino success story.

Clark, Caracter, Jennings, Samuels... None of those guys could scratch a Final Four while overlapping play on the same teams.

You gotta be kidding including Behanan as a Pitino success. We could start a thread on him alone.

But I didn't say he couldn't coach any 5-star kids. I said he shouldn't have recruited any, and these little case histories make the point. Does everyone need to end up a dud for that to be true? No. It just needs to consistently happen to say "avoid them"...

You said he sholdn't have recruited ANY because he couldn't coach them. That is exactly what you said.

You don't reach 2 FF and/or win the title w/o 5 star Chane. The fact that you fail to grasp this obvious point is hilarious, making the entire discussion pointless. You have said repeatedly you do not care what happens with players after they leave. The bottom line is he was in uniform 2 years, which is probably the average for a 5 star recruit, and he played a key role in getting 2 teams to a FF and a title.

So you are clearly judging 5 star players differently in the same post. FF matters when E5 and a few others don't get there, but FF and title doesn't matter when Chane and Juan do get there.

Classic Zipp hypocritical prospective.

It is also a LOL watching you pretend to judge players worth using FF as the bar anyway, when you have repeatedly said on this site the NCAA is a crapshoot and not a true way to judge success. You have claimed Bennett is an elite coach, for example, and he hasn't sniffed a FF. Zipp just taking his imaginary lines and moving them around to fit his no data positions. Up is down and down is up depending on the thread.

Just another example of you moving goal posts. Final Fours matter. Or they don't matter. When you feel like it. Raw statistical #'s matter. When you feel like they matter. But they don't matter when they don't matter.

Worse of it all, minimizing accomplishments and degrading former amateurs who put it on the line for themselves, their teammates, their coach, and you - the ungrateful fan. Of course you don't really believe all the things you post - you just get cornered into it because you lack the self esteem to accept talking points that don't align with yours.

My work is done here.

I don’t have the energy to weed thru everything you wrote but if you don’t think Bennett is a great coach, you don’t know basketball. It’s been said before that winning conference championships are probably harder to do than win 6 games in a row. They said the same thing about Jay Wright but lo and behold he wins 2 NCs and all of a sudden he’s a HOF coach? No, he was always going to be that. Conversely, was Billy Donovan a great, elite coach or was he fortunate enough to have one or two great recruiting seasons with players that hung around for another year? Still waiting on that NBA championship.

Bennett is fine. Just like the careers of some 5* players that didnt have a FF were fine. It's a matter of using a consistent bar to asses accomplishments and productivity.

You cant keep up, your comprehension skills are just too low. Too much needs to be explained to you. Every post flies over your head.

You haven't even started working...

The standard is consistency, not has one guy like Padgett worked out. One Padgett doesn't justify a half dozen knuckleheads that Pitino's system isn't suited to coach. Or guys like Palacios and King who were overrated. And "working out" ain't just about Final Fours. We'll never know, but Bowen may have taken us there--should we have kept him? Was he more of a knucklehead than Behanan?

All of that's part of the problem. They bring baggage, and they're not good for a boot-camp approach to coaching. It's why I ask and will continue to ask if a kid is "L1C4" when they're recruited, at least until it's apparent that Mack doesn't need Louisville-First kids to be successful.

Just don't tell me what I've said or haven't said or pick things out of context. You evidently don't know me...
