U of L settles with Schnatter on Cardinal Stadium naming rights

What would I have done? What was done leading up to this news? Just ignored him and his contract.

Where did I hear from you or read anywhere that a buyout was coming? You’re again making excuses for “Vince” face planting...

Based on your predictions about what would happen with Pitino and his contract, your recent history on contract interpretation is spotty. I think we can all agree that the original contract should’ve had a morals clause. Too bad it didn’t. As noted by Darren Rovell yesterday “the contract...inexplicably...had no morals clause”.

No one predicted Pitino was going to take the high road and give up. Predictions were grounded in the merits of each side in the suit. Clowns simply got lucky...

...how are things in your alternative reality. Back in the real world, Pitino looked at his crummy hand and tried to save face by leaving the table.

Pitino is now convinced, as everyone has been telling him, that this litigation was interfering with him getting a good job. He was in line to collect millions, but it was gonna take awhile...

Yes, a frivolous lawsuit against your former employer may scare off future employers...as will two major NCAA investigations.

Where was the apologist narrative last year that Pizza Guy needed to be bought out? Where did I read ANY of that from ANYONE?

“Vince” has nothing to do with Pizza Guy. He had EVERYTHING to do with giving him just about all of his money back. They’re both part of the same gang...

you crack me up with this Ish! We gave him “almost” all of his money back because that’s the amount that the lawyers on both sides decided it would be worth settling the issue without going to court. His side admitted that Schnatter’s racist comments were damaging and suggested a $ amount. Louisville’s side almost certainly had a different amount in mind. And then after some negotiation. they agreed to the amount that was announced.

What the heck did Tyra have to do with this, other than being the one to announce the result and let everyone know that he would be working on a new sponsor to be announced next year?

For one thing, "Vince" is writing the check. You act like lawyers were calling the shots. Maybe you've never been involved in civil litigation.

"Most of the money" is a factual statement, not just what was agreed. Various accounts peg the money that was originally paid by Pizza Guy at $12-15 million, and U of L gave him $10 million back. So he really paid a few million dollars for TWENTY YEARS of naming rights.

That looks a lot to me like clowns protecting their own...

What do you mean narrative there was no narrative because it was assumed by most logical people Papa would have to be paid back if he had a contract in place. A contract that would spell out ending the contract. The President made the decision to remove the name.

I would have let it go to court. I believe PJ would have blinked first.

His rep is in the dirt. He’s making the slow climb out. I don’t think he’d want all that brought up again, and would have settled for less if he REALLY thought we were going to court. But no we settle and blame it on lawyers.

I’d like to see some fight and not just “settle” with a former board member and crony of Grissom.

We’re losing a LOT of money settling. If we’d fight some we might not lose at all. Surely wouldn’t lose much more but at least we put up a fight.

I really don’t understand how you are putting Vince in the middle of this mess. He wasn’t even there during any of these naming rights negotiations pre 2018, he also doesn’t have the power you’re suggesting he does to solely decide that UofL would settle a price to take PJ’s name off the stadium.

If i were to take a wild guess, I’d say anyone at UofL with a brain and the power to make such a decision would want to move away from Schnatter, the guy is a loose cannon, good move by the university to cut ties, even if it does cost the university 9.5 million over 5 years. Apparently the university has the money or they would not have made the deal. They’ll recoup the money on the next deal.

I have absolutely no idea what the above means. All I know is that a contract was signed and honored. I don’t get why you don’t understand this. Over and over you seem to think we should simply ignore our legal obligations. I don’t know if Vince NQ is the best guy we could have in that role, but I thank god it’s not you in charge.

Find me a "logical people" reference that suggested refunding the majority of his naming rights contract cost. Doesn't exist. I've clicked on a half dozen from last summer, and the closest reference I can find is...

"[Little Miss Sunshine] said she understands there are some legal risks associated with dropping the Papa John's name from the stadium and the related naming rights contracts of $14 million put forward by Schnatter and $6 million by the Papa John's company..." LINK

Tell me that sounds like "we have to give him most of his money back".

Yours is plainly a new narrative to apologize for clowns. IMO it's an effort to make whole a former clown who aided and abetted a clown agenda...

You’re right it’s not - and yet you felt the need to do so anyway. Not all of us have the freedom from responsibility that comes with being a teacher’s aide / part time instructor so it would be great if you could add some sports related commentary to the board for those events that most can’t make it to.

In other words, try adding something of value to the board. You might find that you like it. :)
You really oughta work harder to find out my life story. Stalking and googling aren't your only options...

$10 million is most of the money Pizza Guy gave U of L. No coincidence that he was on the Board when all of this ish went down.

And "Vince" can't raise money. He'll further cut the budgets of football and men's basketball like he's doing this year...

Pitino got blanked - as he should have. Jurich got paid - as he should have.
Wrong. beano says it's as simple as who has contracts.
Lol - don’t care about your life story. I was simply commenting on the information (factual or otherwise) that you put out. 40k later - I’m just looking forward to your first sports related post.
No mystery you can't prevent yourself from clicking on them...

The contracts of Jurich and Petrino got paid because they didn’t violate them.

The “master” - not so much. After he got over his misplaced anger - even Pitino realized that his case was a loser.

You’re changing the subject and derailing the thread in the process. No one here is interested in your personal vendetta against Vince, this thread is about PJ and UofL and naming rights for Cardinal Stadium. If you want to have a talk about what Vince has or has not done financially for the university by all means do that, just start another thread.

PJ’s contributions to naming rights through the years is around 20 million, UofL negotiated through the latest settlement to pay him back 9.5 million, so technically UofL is not paying him back “most” of the money he’s contributed over the years to naming rights. After the recent settlement, PJ has given UofL around +450k per year for all the years his name has been on the stadium.

If people want to look at this in such a black and white manner when it comes to how much PJ gave specifically for naming rights that’s fine, but PJ has given millions more worth of his own shares of Papa John’s over the years to help build the stadium and add on to it, so I think it’s safe to say all of the deals between PJ and UofL have worked out very well for both parties, I don’t really see the benefit in pointing fingers at anyone. That’s just my 2 cents.

Well once again both of you have taken a thread and made it all about the stupid shit between you guys. Stay on topic! Stay out of each others personal space. Zipp you started the shit talk. BP, you followed suit. This is open fair warning to both of you. Next time you will both get a time out like a child.

could do something cool like

Makers Mark Cardinal Stadium

and have the tops of the stadium dipped in red. could have some cool possibilities

Refer to post #22 in this thread for a reminder on this subject.

If you're saying there's other "shit talk" subject matter you have a problem with me bringing up, let me know here or privately...

Zipp ads nothing to this forum. All he wants to do is push his on agenda.

Zipp, your zing started on #27. I try to do my homework. That opened the door. It really is a bad time to be on vacation from the boards with all the activity going on.

Jurich being the man who hired BP for the second time should tell you all you need to know about the man AND his son (apple doesn't seem to fall to far from the tree).
Which man and his son (they both had sons who worked for them)?

Here are my picks...

Muth's Candies Cardinal Stadium
Speed Art Museum Cardinal Stadium Presented by Monet
Tony Malito Cardinal Stadium. New team cheer: WOO!

Me and 13-14,000 of my buds who were at the game today. It was great, nobody was following me around...

For some strange reason, I am finding it hard to believe that you have many "buds". And where are they going to follow you too? Unless you're still out on campus having "We want Tom" rallies.

Let me put it this way...I have all I want and can stand. And it doesn't matter what you believe...

I believe we’ll be sponsored by either UPS or Humana. Just my own opinion and I’m entitled. But I could be mistaken. I was wrong once . . . . . . And zipp has an agenda and if anyone doesn’t “get” it then your reading comprehension skills need some honing. Often, I do not agree with zipp, but there are times that he actually says something worthwhile, but I don’t remember when that actually happened. :p:D:);)

It better not be Humana after they just laid off 800 people.

THAT would be a bad PR move.

Why not Churchill Downs Inc.? Throw some historical racing slots, and betting windows along the concourse. During timeouts they could throw some races up on the screens, hell throw some mini TwinSpires up near the party deck. Future sportsbook at the stadium...Possibilities are endless.
